Sparing her life
Chapter 5
Thane’s POV
“Are you just too greedy or plain foolish, which would not come as a surprise to me,” I sneered, my heavy boots echoing on the cold stone floor as I walked toward the human.
Her thin frame shook, looking weak, but her eyes glowed with a rare strength, even for humans. It sparked my curiosity, though it wouldn’t save her.
“I would not sign this contract, I will be your blood slave,” she said, her voice shaky but bold. My eyes darkened, my bloodthirst soared to the roof.
“Then it would be a pleasure killing you,” I growled, my fangs slipping past my lips.
The wine glass in my hand shattered, the sharp pieces falling to the ground along with the wine. My claws slid out, glinting, as I stepped closer, my eyes locked on her neck where her blood pulsed, loud, rich and tempting
Ruby’s POV
Fear flashed in my eyes as Thane’s long, strong fingers gripped my throat, lifting me off the ground.
My hands scratched at his hold, my legs kicking the air, it was useless. I froze, staring into his glowing red eyes, he had the most handsome face I’d ever seen. His jaw was sharp as stone, his lips parting to show fangs that shone with danger.
“No no no ..” I gasped, my heart sinking with regret. Signing the contract would’ve kept me alive and maybe rich. .
His nails pierced my skin, making me wince in pain as I watched a cruel, haunting smile spread across his face.
“Help...please…” My heart raced as my head began spinning and my vision fading. I glanced at Lucas, the human who was standing still, his face cold and not even moving to help.
Just as hope slipped away, Thane’s grip eased. I collapsed to the floor, gasping, my hands rubbing my sore, bruised neck as I coughed in panic and breathed heavily in fear.
“What blood type is she?” Thane’s voice was cold as he turned to Lucas.
“She has the rare ruby blood Thane, do you want me to get rid of her?” Lucas answered, his voice flat with his hands behind his back. I froze at his words.
“Hmmm I will keep her, it would be a waste to kill off such delicious delicacy,” Thane said. My skin turned cold as he referred to me as a meal, that's what I was to him. Although I was grateful to be alive, but the thought of being used as a meal looked even worse than death.
“Come with me slave, I would like to inspect what I would be giving the privilege to live,” Thane snapped coldly, his polished boots clicking sharply on the dark stone floor as he strode toward the door.
My heart raced as I scrambled to my feet, brushing past Lucas to follow Thane, desperate not to anger him further and risk my life.
“A word of advice? Don't look him in the eyes and don't defy him, try to live Ruby,” Lucas said softly as I passed. I shot him a fierce glare, my stomach twisting in anger, he’d just offered to kill me! His quiet words angered me but I couldn’t stop to argue.
I hurried behind Thane’s towering figure as he stalked down the dim hallway, his long black coat swaying behind him as he moved quietly, his footsteps not making a sound.
He stopped at the darkest end of the hallway where a dark door stood to the left. With a snap of his fingers, he pushed the large double doors open with ease, their hinges groaning. I rushed to follow, doubting I could budge those heavy oak doors alone. They slammed shut behind me, the sound echoing through the dark room.
“What is your name human?” Thane asked coldly, his voice slicing through the stillness as he moved deeper into the room, while I looked around taking in my surroundings.
The space was filled with dark furniture, black chairs and tables with no hint of color. “I heard it's nice to know the name of dishes you shall consume,” he continued. I stopped dead in my tracks, my throat suddenly getting tight.
“I am called Ruby,” I replied, my voice coming out small. My eyes widened as Thane slipped off his shirt, revealing a broad, muscular back that was clad in a black fitted shirt.
I swallowed hard, my breath catching. He turned, his short black hair framing his sharp face, and I gasped, his eyes were now ice-cold blue, not the deep red of before. I’d never heard of vampires with human-like eyes. He looked almost divine, not threatening, but that thought shattered as his next word hit.
“Strip,” his voice echoed round the room. I froze. Had I heard him wrong? His blue eyes locked onto mine coldly waiting for me to obey.
