THE ONE

ANITA'S POINT OF VIEW

I moaned softly and opened my eyes, squinting it a bit. It's dawn already, the sun has began to lift its sleepy head, pouring a gentle, golden light into the cozy confines of my little apartment. I turned to see Nathan already seated on the bed and he stood up to pick up his trouser. Last night was so hot and I can't wait for it to happen again.

Just as I was beginning to gather my thoughts,i was immediately interrupted by the insistent ringing of a phone from the bedside table, it was Nathan's. I picked it up and the bright screen lit up with the name "Kimberly," paired with a heart emoji that seemed to pulse ominously in the stillness.

“Who’s that on the line?” Nathan called out, tugging at his pants as he prepared to get moving.

“It's Kimberly,” I answered, my brow furrowing slightly as I observed his expression shift in response to the name. The mere mention of her made my annoyance bubble beneath the surface, and I couldn't suppress a grimace that crept across my face. I stole a glance at the her image displayed on the screen.

“Oh... just drop it back on the bed,” he mumbled dismissively, as if the reality of what was going on was nothing more than a slight annoyance that he could easily brush off.

I narrowed my eyes, feeling a mix of confusion and concern that compelled me to dig deeper into the situation.

“Isn’t she supposed to be at the hospital right now?” I asked, deliberately rolling my eyes in his direction, frustration bubbling up inside me as I waited for him to explain himself. The fact that she was calling at this hour only intensified the knot of unease forming in my stomach.

“Yes she is ,” he reluctantly admitted, his voice dropping a notch as he began sliding on a fitted shirt. The material clung to him in that all-too-familiar way that I had grown accustomed to.

“She has a lot of patients she needs to take care of today,” he added, his tone losing some of its earlier casualness and indifference.

“You mentioned to me that you were planning to end things with her,” I said, locking my eyes onto his with an intensity that seemed to peel back the layers of what was truly happening beneath the surface. “So why on earth is she still reaching out to you? Or have you not actually ended things with her yet?” My voice held a note of disbelief, reverberating in the silence that surrounded us. It created a tense atmosphere that I hadn’t initially meant to stir up, but I recognized that it was a necessary confrontation we couldn’t avoid any longer.

“Listen, sweetheart,” he replied, his voice softening as if he were trying to soothe my escalating emotions. There was an almost desperate tone to his words.

“I really will break up with her... I just need a bit more time to figure everything out.” What he said felt like a promise, but there was an unmistakable veil of uncertainty that lingered, leaving me feeling frustrated and bewildered. My heart raced, caught in a whirlwind of conflicting feelings. I could feel my brows knitting together, my frown deepening as I considered the weight of his indecision.

“Please, just try not to worry so much about it, babe,” Nathan urged with a sense of urgency threading through his voice. His words carried a hint of exasperation, but I couldn’t shake my anxieties.

"You know how I feel about her. It’s not like I have any love for her, so you really shouldn’t let it get to you. She’s just not important to me at all." His voice was steady and sincere as he stepped closer, his gaze firmly meeting mine.

"I assure you, I’ll handle this by the end of the day, alright?" A sense of relief washed over me with his promise, and I found myself responding with a nod, even though I couldn't shake a lingering sense of unease that buzzed quietly in the back of my mind.

"But if she means so little to you, why are you still seeing her?" I asked, my voice tinged with a hint of frustration that I struggled to suppress.

"Seriously, Nathan, you’ve got to end things with her. If you don’t, I swear I’ll step in and help you break it off myself." My words were tinged with playful teasing, but there was an undeniable seriousness woven into my tone. In that moment, Nathan leaned closer and pressed his lips softly against mine, delivering a kiss so warm that it temporarily chased away the tension that hung between us.

"Just please, Anita, don’t do anything impulsive," he implored, his expression earnest. "Give me just a few more days, and I promise I’ll take care of it. I’ll put an end to it.

I really need to get moving, though—I have two patients who are expecting me, and I’m already running late," he said, casting a quick glance at his wristwatch, as if simply checking the time could somehow make the sticky situation between us feel less uncomfortable.

"Catch you later, baby," he added with a warm, gentle smile. I responded with a soft hum, my gaze following him closely as he started to prepare for his departure. Just as he was about to turn away, he threw in a playful eye roll and said, "I’m definitely going to hear a lot from Felix about this."

"Oh, Felix is such a downer," I responded with a chuckle, shaking my head at the thought. "Honestly, since I’m off today, it’s such a relief that I can avoid his annoyingly familiar face." His light laughter rang out, a bright moment of joy cutting through the slightly awkward atmosphere that had settled around us.

"So, are you planning to swing back here once your shift wraps up, or do you think you’ll just head straight home?" I asked, trying to get a sense of what he had in mind for the rest of his day. Nathan flashed me a mischievous grin that conveyed a sense of playful trouble, and in that instant, I could see the gleam in his eyes that suggested he was thinking of something naughty.

"I recognize that look," I teased him, shaking my head in a playful manner. "What kind of mischief are you up to this time?" He responded with a cheeky wink, and in that instant, I felt a delightful flutter of excitement inside me, even amidst the swirling complexities of our situation.

"I'll be back for you, babe," he said with a playful grin before quickly pressing his lips against mine in a sweet kiss. He then reached over to grab his phone from the bed.

"See you later, gorgeous... Love you," he added with another quick peck on my lips as he made his way to the door.

"I love you too, babe!" I called out, hugging one of the pillows tightly against my chest. A warm, fuzzy feeling spread through me just thinking about having Nathan all to myself. I could hardly wait to see the look on that other girl's face when she discovers that I've been with her precious Nathan for over three months now.

My feelings toward her were far from pleasant; in fact, I absolutely detested her. It frustrated me endlessly that people insisted on comparing us. I rolled my eyes at the thought, particularly when it came to that obnoxious Dr. Felix, who seemed to take particular pleasure in making those comparisons. But thankfully, my charms had managed to keep him at bay for the time being, much to my relief.

I've got him wrapped around my finger and he does anything I tell him to do as long as I spread my legs for him.

I bit my lips and laid on my back but just then I heard my phone ringing. I picked it up from my bed and saw that it was Tatiana, My bestfriend. She's also a doctor in the same hospital as I am.

"Hey what's up, Baby girl?"I said with a smile.

"I'm good girl, Are you still in bed??"She asked and I hummed with a raised eyebrow.

"Why??, Is something wrong??"I asked.

"Yes Anita, Kimberly has been assigned to be the personal doctor to Donovan Higgins"She said and I sat up immediately trying to process what she just said.

"Excuse..... Can..... Can you please come again"I said with a scoff.

"I said that Kimberly has been assigned as the personal doctor to Donovan Higgins"She said and I scoffed immediately.

"Which Donovan Higgins?,My crush??, Do you mean the son to Antonio Higgins??"I said with a raised eyebrow.

"Of course, Anita, do we have any other Donovan Higgins in the country??"She said and I gulped down my spittle immediately.

"Are...... Are you sure about this, Tiana??"I asked and heard her scoff.

"And why would I be lying to you, As a matter of fact...... This is on everyone's lips in the hospital as we speak. At first I thought it was a lie until Doctor Felix confirmed that it's the truth.......he's parents are in the hospital right now"She said and I bit my lips immediately.

"But that old folk promised me that I'll be the one that'll be assigned to be Donovan's personal doctor, I even had to go extra rounds the last time we had s*x just to make sure that he assigns me as Donovan's Doctor"I said with a deep frown.

"Seriously girl??.,I still don't know why you want to be the doctor to that psychopath, Could you believe that I heard that he had almost stabbed Collins last night when Collins wanted to give him an injection?, I know you're obsessed with him because he's handsome and rich but girlfriend...... I'm going to be sincere I actually don't think you should wish to be the doctor to him"She said but I hissed loudly.

"I don't care if he's mentally unstable Girlfriend, He's got the perfect body and also the perfect money...... Imagine taming him to myself"I said and laughed heartily.

"It Is I that should be assigned to be his doctor and I'm going to make sure that Felix assigns me instead, Infact I'm coming to the hospital right now"I said and stood up from the bed.

"See you later, bestie.....i gotta go get ready so expect me soon "I said and hung up with a smirk.

"There's no way that, that b*tch, Kimberly, Is going to that rich mansion....... I will be the one to treat my Donovan"I said and grinned before walking into the bathroom.
