Observo mis ojos celestes reflejados en el espejo mientras trato de maquillarme sin causar desastres.

– Vamos Adrienna, puedes conseguirlo – me digo a mí misma con premura.

No amo perder el tiempo, y mucho menos para maquillarme, hoy es un día especial, mi cumpleaños, por fin soy mayor de edad… alcohol, licencia de conducir y libertad… esto es lo que me han dicho las locas de mis amigas.

Estoy aterrorizada, me gustaría transcurrir mi día de manera tranquila, pero ellas han decidido que debíamos celebrarlo, preludio de una catástrofe anunciada, tanto es así, que mis amigas han organizado una velada llena de diversión: discoteca, que no encaja exactamente con mi idea de diversión, preferiría con creces una noche en el cine.

Me quieren mucho, se han esforzado mucho para organizarme una noche especial y les agradezco por ello, una mesa en uno de los locales más exclusivos de Florencia, el sueño de toda chica que cumple veintiuno años y que ama las fiestas, repito, esa no soy yo, adoro bailar y divertirme, pero no a menudo, sin embargo, esas cuatro siempre están preparadas para desatarse.

Este es el motivo por el cual me consideran la moderadora del grupo, las miro con entusiasmo mientras ríen entre ellas comentando una el vestido de la otra. Brina: la decidida. Al crecer he comprendido que era mejor no encariñarse con las personas para evitar sufrir otro abandono. Con el rabillo del ojo observo cómo Gina recoge el pelo a Jianna y sonrío. He sido la última en cumplir los veintiunos en nuestro grupo y es exactamente por esto por lo que mis amigas han considerado conveniente elegir una noche de discoteca. Dicen que no me divierto lo suficiente.

La dolce vita. Ya el nombre lo dice todo. Soy una persona afortunada, tengo amigas que son como hermanas. Si no fuera por ellas a esta hora estaría encerrada en mi habitación mirando fuera de la ventana, observando la vida pasar porque me gusta estar en casa. Somos un grupo raro, lleno de problemas y son justamente nuestras vidas y nuestros problemas los que nos han unido.

—Esta noche hacemos fiesta. —Chilla Jianna. Nos gusta hacernos las locas entre nosotras, pero de forma auténtica, sana. Hemos elegido vestirnos todas con vestidos rubios, como nos había sugerido Sharon. Dice que te hace más sensual, pero poco importa por lo que me concierne. Admito que aparentamos algunos años más y el objetivo era precisamente ese.

Parezco otra persona, será el maquillaje o el modo en el que he peinado mi largo cabello rubio que normalmente llevo recogido. Sin embargo, esta noche Sharon, mi tía, ha insistido en dejarlo suelto. El taxi acaba de llegar y en mi habitación se desencadena el caos. Unas gritan que nos movamos, otras se lamentan porque no han acabado todavía. Y luego estoy yo que las miro disfrutando de la situación. Somos unos desastres, pero esto es precisamente lo bonito.

Podría intentar conocer gente nueva, aunque en esas discotecas, normalmente, no llevan a nada bueno. De todas formas, es improbable si sigo apartándome del género masculino. Es como una alergia y no consigo explicarme el motivo. Debería bajar la guardia, tratar de dejarme llevar, tal vez descubro que al final no es tan malo tener un chico a mi lado. Mis amigas ya han tenido sus experiencias, y yo en cambio no, excepto con un chico con el que salí el año pasado.

Ricky era un chico adorable, íbamos a la misma clase y entre un trabajo y otro me pidió que saliéramos juntos. Comenzamos a vernos, incluso fuimos al cine un par de veces, pero al final me di cuenta que lo veía solo como un amigo y preferí ser sincera con él. A veces tengo la impresión de que las personas de mi edad no me interesan. Quisiera entablar un diálogo con personas maduras que me puedan enseñar algo. Cada vez que alguien intenta acercarse a mí, me paralizo, levanto un muro y me vuelvo fría. ¿Quién querría lidiar con una como yo? Nadie. A veces me pregunto si habrá alguien que me aguante, alguien capaz de derrumbar ese muro cimentado de años y años de odio y tristeza. Suspiro cuando veo el letrero del local y bajo del taxi. Estoy distraída, me doy cuenta de ello y para hacer felices a mis amigas trataré de divertirme y no ser asocial.

Cuando entramos no puedo evitar notar la decoración sofisticada, los sillones de mimbre con cojines blancos, el mostrador del bar iluminado por una luz violeta, las personas bailando y divirtiéndose con la música de fondo y la luz tenue. Espero a que las chicas indiquen la mesa reservada mientras continúo mirando a mi alrededor.

—Chicas, he encontrado la mesa, pero hay un problema —advierte Carlotta. Me vuelvo mirándola sorprendida.

—¿Qué problema? Sonríe avergonzada con una extraña luz en los ojos.

—¡La mesa está ocupada por cinco apuestos machotes! —responde encantada. —El espectáculo acaba de comenzar —Comenta Jianna a mis espaldas riendo. Resoplo apoyando las manos en las caderas.

—No digamos tonterías. Estamos aquí para divertirnos, pero no exageremos. —Respondo molesta.

—Vamos a recuperar nuestra mesa. Carlotta se encoge de hombros.

—Quiero ver cómo te libras de ellos. La sigo en silencio dispuesta a recuperar nuestra mesa. Seguramente serán los típicos chulitos que se creen Dios caído del cielo, y yo estoy deseando enterrar su ego. Lo que se presenta ante mis ojos no es en absoluto algo que se ve todos los días. Cinco… hombres.

No son chicos y no tienen pinta de bromear. Mis ojos se deslizan analizando uno a uno mientras me acerco a la mesa. Observándolos mejor diría que son mucho más grandes que nosotros, lo cual podría ser un problema, pero no me rendiré fácilmente. Escucho fugazmente algunos comentarios de mis amigos, aprecian mucho lo que ven. Es inútil negarlo, son dignos de observar, pero no serán unas caras bonitas las que me hagan desistir.

—Buenas noches, lo lamento, pero están ocupando nuestra mesa. —Digo amablemente. Empecemos con buen pie, es mejor ser educada. Los cinco me observan y yo querría morirme de la vergüenza. Madre mía, estoy ardiendo. Me miran serios y luego centran la atención en mis amigas. Sí, lo sé, nosotras tampoco estamos mal. Nos sonríen, excepto uno. Cabello rubio, mandíbula pronunciada, cara de malo. Un escalofrío me recorre cuando su mirada continúa sosteniendo la mía, intensamente.

Coge el vaso apoyado en la mesa y bebe el contenido color ámbar y a continuación pasa la lengua por el labio inferior. Lo hace lentamente y sin apartar la mirada. ¿Estará intentando seducirme? —Olvídalo, jovencita. —Advierte uno de ellos demasiado serio inclinándose hacia mí. Permanecemos mirándonos como dos animales feroces en la misma jaula. De repente siento calor y no entiendo por qué. Vicenzo. Ninguno de los dos habla, es algo inexplicable, no me había sucedido nunca antes. Parece curioso, pero al mismo tiempo enfadado, creo tener la misma expresión. Observo cómo contrae la mandíbula mientras llena el vaso y después lo acerca a los labios fulminándome con la mirada.

Idiota provocador. Debiera apartar la mirada, pero no lo consigo. Bebe un trago de líquido ambarino y después pasa la lengua por los labios con los ojos encendidos por el deseo. Trago saliva. Es descarado, presuntuoso y fascinante. Algo dentro de mí me empuja a hacer que pruebe su propia medicina. Que le den. No es el único que sabe jugar a este juego. Sin pensarlo demasiado cojo el vaso de su mano y bebo un trago. El líquido baja por la garganta abrasándome, aumentando el fuego que se ha encendido en mi interior. Sonrío satisfecha lamiéndome los labios, exactamente como ha hecho él desvergonzadamente bajo la mirada de todos los presentes. Echa la cabeza a un lado arrugando la frente. Apoyo el vaso sobre la mesa y le sonrío socarronamente. No eres el único capaz de flirtear. Me estoy adentrando en territorios que no conozco, nunca he tenido un comportamiento similar y creo que ha llegado el momento de detenerme.

—Por nosotras no hay ningún problema. —Exclama Jianna a mis espaldas. Me vuelvo de golpe fulminándola por la idiotez que acaba de decir. Ni hablar. ¿Nosotras en la misma mesa en compañía de cinco desconocidos? Las otras sonríen cómplices y veo que soy la única en contra. Increíble. No pueden hacerme esto después de que haya provocado a un desconocido, tendrían que ayudarme a salir de la situación. Observando su convicción, me resigno a la idea de compartir “mi noche” con desconocidos.

—Hagan lo que quieran, voy a tomarme algo para beber. —Digo rindiéndome.

Me alejo dejándolas solas, seguramente se las apañarán mejor que yo. Cuando llego al bar pido un vodka con hielo. Insólito en una chica, pero lo necesito. Apoyada en el mostrador del bar bebo lentamente mientras estudio la situación de la mesa. Ahí están, mis queridas amigas ligando como nunca. Digo yo, ni que fueran los únicos hombres presentes en el planeta. Compostura, chicas, controlad las hormonas. Mirándolas parecen radiantes, también los chicos parecen interesados a juzgar por cómo las observan.

El único al margen es Vicenzo. Nuestras miradas se cruzan nuevamente y es algo explosivo. No entiendo por qué, pero me suscita curiosidad. Me pregunto qué me ha pasado antes. Estaba fuera de control. Siempre he sabido manejar las situaciones, pero ahora me ha cogido desprevenida. Me armo de valor y me acerco a la mesa sin apartar la mirada de la suya. Me atemoriza, pero al mismo tiempo me intriga.
