Balancei minhas pernas de empolgação enquanto estava sentada no banco no jardim do alojamento da minha escola católica só para meninas, com um grande sorriso no rosto. Eu olhava para o jardim, que estava cheio de tantos tipos diferentes de rosas. Fechei os olhos e respirei fundo o aroma sedutor das rosas, enquanto o sol da manhã brilhava sobre mim, me fazendo sentir o calor do verão. Eu amo rosas. Venho a este jardim sempre que estou triste ou feliz, porque olhar para as rosas me traz calma, assim como o verão.

Elas me trazem paz porque só o vejo nesta época do ano. Hoje eu estava feliz, pois finalmente chegara o dia. Esperei por este dia por cinco anos e não consigo mais expressar minhas emoções. Não sei como expressá-las. Por um lado, sinto toda a empolgação e, por outro lado, sinto um doce medo se espalhando lentamente pelos meus membros, de alguma forma fazendo com que sintam o fluxo das minhas emoções. Puxei as alças da minha bolsa cheia de roupas de volta para o meu ombro, que haviam caído enquanto eu estava perdida em meu mundo de sonhos, com um grande sorriso no rosto. Nos últimos cinco anos, planejei tantas coisas que uma garota de quinze anos poderia imaginar. Meus pensamentos foram interrompidos quando ouvi uma voz aguda me chamando.

Seu rosto corado, tudo por causa da corrida, com seus longos cabelos pretos escapando do rabo de cavalo, enquanto gotas de suor escorriam de sua testa em seu rosto, fazendo sua pele branca como leite brilhar ao sol. Ela é a garota mais bonita que conheço, com seus longos cabelos e pele branca como leite, enquanto eu era mais como uma garota descolada, com meu cabelo curto e castanho.

"O que aconteceu, Ella," perguntei com uma carranca no rosto, enquanto a olhava e ajustava novamente a alça da minha bolsa no ombro, prendendo-as lá novamente.

"Eles esqueceram como nós as derrotamos na semana passada?" eu disse em tom de deboche, olhando para a longa estrada de onde todos os carros entram nas dependências da escola.

"Não esqueceram! Essa é a razão pela qual escolheram hoje para se vingar, quando você está indo embora," ela disse com voz controlada, endireitando o corpo para me encarar.

"Eu sei que você pode enfrentá-las, então volte," eu disse com voz agitada, batendo o pé no chão enquanto mordia o lábio inferior, sabendo que elas precisam de mim, mas meu pai estará aqui a qualquer momento para me buscar.

"Vamos, Luna, se perdermos seremos perdedoras pelo ano inteiro," ela disse com voz suplicante, fazendo com que eu desviasse os olhos da estrada para ela, enquanto ela me implorava com seus olhos de cachorrinho. Eu expirei alto, sabendo que não conseguiria passar o ano inteiro com a marca de perdedora. Olhei para a estrada e depois para ela, pois já tinha decidido. Não posso decepcionar minha equipe.

Ouvindo minhas palavras, Ella me deu seu grande sorriso e fez sua pequena dança feliz, pois havia me convencido com sucesso. Em pouco tempo, eu estava de pé no campo de futebol com uma bola na mão, vestida com meu uniforme de futebol e a camisa em que meu nome estava escrito em letras garrafais. Ao meu lado estava Ella e o resto dos membros da equipe.

"O que é isso, você me deu a informação de que a capitã da ala A estava indo embora hoje, então por que diabos ela está aqui?" ouvi a capitã da ala C perguntando a um membro de sua equipe, enquanto me olhava com os olhos estreitos. Passei a mão nos meus cabelos curtos até a orelha e soprei um beijo voador em sua direção como cumprimento, fazendo seu rosto se contorcer de raiva. Ela ainda guarda ressentimentos contra mim porque a derrotei muito mal em nossa última partida. Nem mesmo a deixei marcar um gol.

"Prontas para uma revanche," perguntei com um sorriso irônico, fazendo-a cerrar os punhos.

"Estejam prontas para perder, perdedoras," ela disse com raiva ao me ver sorrindo em sua direção.

"Vamos ver," eu disse com o mesmo sorriso irônico, fazendo-a ranger os dentes.

"Vamos começar a partida," Ella disse em voz alta, enquanto ouvia o apito sendo soprado. E assim começou nossa partida de orgulho.

"Não vou deixar vocês vencerem desta vez," gritou a capitã do time de futebol da ala C, correndo em minha direção para chutar a bola que estava no centro. Como ela disse, jogou sujo como sempre, tentando vencer a partida, mas minha equipe não deixou passar seus truques sujos. Vencemos a partida, com Ella marcando dois gols com o cotovelo machucado e eu marcando quatro gols no processo de machucar meus joelhos. Meus outros membros da equipe também tinham hematomas nas pernas e nos braços. Por outro lado, as meninas do time da ala C estavam mancando enquanto saíam do campo derrotadas.

"Até o próximo jogo, perdedoras, até lá, pratiquem como jogar futebol," eu disse em tom de deboche, enquanto ela mancava em direção à sua Ala com o apoio de seus membros da equipe.

"Sim, conseguimos, pessoal," disse Ella em vitória, seguido de um gemido, pois seu braço doía quando ela tentava dançar, nos fazendo rir, eu e minha equipe, com seu entusiasmo. Nos reunimos pulando juntos em nossa vitória.

"Luna Davis, seu pai está aqui para te buscar," ouvi uma das irmãs chamando meu nome enquanto ria com Ella, ainda desfrutando de nossa vitória.

"Estou indo, irmã," gritei de volta, fazendo-a voltar para dentro, e olhei para Ella, que tinha uma expressão triste no rosto.

"Vou sentir sua falta," disse Ella enquanto me abraçava.

"Você sabe que pode vir comigo. Você é sempre bem-vinda," eu disse em voz suave, enquanto quebrava o abraço e ajeitava seus longos fios soltos atrás da orelha. Sinto pena dela, sabendo que ela não tem ninguém para passar as férias de verão. Mesmo que eu não tenha visto minha mãe, tenho meu pai ao meu lado neste mundo grande, mas Ella só tem a mim, pois é órfã.

"Eu sei, mas você sabe que vou ajudar em um asilo pelo resto das minhas férias de verão," ela disse com um grande sorriso no rosto, mascarando sua dor por trás de seus olhos felizes. Esta é uma das melhores qualidades de Ella. Ela está sempre feliz, mesmo que esteja sofrendo por dentro. Ela era tão madura para uma garota de quinze anos, ao contrário de mim.

"Me ligue todos os dias quando voltar do asilo," eu disse com a mesma voz suave, assentindo com a cabeça em entendimento.

"Traga chocolates quando voltar. Espero que desta vez você compartilhe seu chocolate especial comigo," ela disse com um sorriso travesso no rosto, me fazendo corar. Ela sabe que nunca os compartilho com ninguém e é por isso que ela gosta de me provocar.

"Eu preciso ir, nos vemos assim que nosso intervalo acabar," eu disse, ainda corando enquanto corria em direção à árvore onde minha bolsa estava, não prometendo se compartilharia meus chocolates especiais com ela. Segurando minha bolsa nos ombros, corri para o escritório onde meu pai estaria me esperando, não sem antes acenar para Ella às minhas costas.

"Papai," eu gritei assim que sua alta figura apareceu em minha visão, correndo em sua direção.

"Oh, minha campeã de futebol finalmente chegou," papai disse em sua voz alegre enquanto me levantava em seus braços e me abraçava, nos girando.

"Você ganhou de novo?" ele me perguntou com orgulho.

"Sim, marquei o gol da vitória," eu disse feliz, assentindo com um grande sorriso no rosto.

"Estou orgulhoso de você," ele disse com um grande sorriso no rosto.

"Papai, me coloque no chão, estou muito velha para você me carregar até o carro," eu disse rindo enquanto ele começava a caminhar em direção à porta comigo ainda em seus braços.

"Você ainda é minha bebê, então me deixe te carregar," ele disse em seu tom de protesto enquanto me levava em direção ao carro, ajustando meu corpo em seus braços. Eu tentei escorregar, mas ele não me deixou descer até chegarmos ao carro. Logo estávamos a caminho de nossa casa, que eu sentia tanta falta. Assim que o carro estava perto de nosso destino, a excitação e a euforia que eu estava sentindo desde a manhã voltaram.

"Papai, vamos primeiro para a Mansão Riviera?" eu perguntei com os olhos brilhando, tentando disfarçar minha empolgação.

"Não hoje, querida, iremos lá amanhã, todos estão ansiosos para te ver," ele disse com um sorriso enquanto me olhava, mas então desviou os olhos de volta para a estrada.

"Hmmm," murmurei em resposta enquanto assentia para ele. Mordi o lábio inferior, me contendo para não perguntar o que eu estava morrendo de vontade de perguntar assim que ele disse que todos sentiam minha falta. Aquela pergunta estava na ponta da minha língua, então pressionei os lábios juntos enquanto descansava a cabeça no encosto do banco, virando meu rosto para olhar pela janela para me distrair. Mas a pergunta que eu não conseguia pronunciar repetia na minha mente.

Será que ele também está ansioso para me ver?

Ele se lembra da promessa que me fez há cinco anos?
