Chapter 4

SALVATORE

Maybe fate is playing with us. There she is again, with those innocent blue eyes that seem to beg for me.

Sophia. That’s her name, her real name. I smile, remembering she had the courage to lie to me, making up a fake name right after saving my life.

She clearly isn’t naïve if she didn’t trust me. It only proves how sharp she is. I’m still impressed by her courage.

Thanks to her, I managed to escape that damned ambush. And when I find the one responsible, I’ll make him pay in blood.

Unlike the night before, now she’s dressed in a sober, restrained way. But I can still clearly remember the sight of her curves in that black dress, and her hair down, so damn sexy.

I’ll admit it was hard to sleep after I left her last night. Frustration kept me awake while every part of my body ached for her.

But what I really want to know now is: what is she doing here? This is a reunion for alumni and faculty, yet I’ve never seen her here before.

Unable to resist, I approach while she’s talking to Chloe. When she sees me, a mix of confusion and surprise flashes across her face.

“This is quite the surprise!” Chloe says, stepping in to hug me.

Then she turns to Sophia with a suggestive smile, not even trying to be subtle.

Could that be a good sign? Maybe Sophia mentioned something about me.

“Isn’t that right, Sofi?”

“Mr. Salvatore.” Sophia offers me a timid smile.

“It’s good to see familiar faces,” I say.

But what I really mean is that I’m happy to see her again.

“Anyone else thirsty?” Chloe asks. “Excuse me, I’ll grab us something to drink.” She winks as she walks past me.

“I’m sorry, Chloe isn’t exactly the best at being discreet.” Sophia smiles, shaking her head.

“She means well.”

“Yes, she always does.”

“It’s really loud in here… Do you want to go somewhere else?”

She hesitates, then nods.

We leave the crowded hall and its loud music behind, stepping into one of the long corridors of the university.

“I have to admit, I’m curious to know what you’re doing here,” she says as we walk side by side.

“I’m starting to teach here next semester.”

“Wait… you’re a professor?” She stops, staring at me like I’ve just said something unbelievable.

“Yes.”

“Okay. That’s completely unexpected.” She starts walking again. “I could’ve imagined a lot of things… but not that.”

“Why not?”

“No offense, but you don’t look like a professor.” She frowns, trying not to smile.

“I guess I don’t fit the stereotype.”

“Absolutely not! I mean… the tattoos, the hair last night… By the way, you look good with it tied back too.”

Her spontaneity and the way she doesn’t seem afraid to say exactly what she thinks are pushing me to my limit. I’m using every ounce of self-control not to put my hands on her right now.

“Thank you,” I say as we reach the end of the corridor, stopping by a staircase that leads to the second floor.

You can still hear the faint music coming from the hall. Then I get an idea.

“Sophia…”

She stops, turning to me at the foot of the stairs.

“Yes?”

“Do you want to dance?”

I just need an excuse to touch her.

“Dance? Here?” She blinks, confused, as I extend my hand.

She stares at it for a few seconds before finally giving in and taking it.

I place my hands on her waist, and she rests hers on my shoulders. We start moving slowly.

Her perfume and the nearness of her body make my skin burn. I feel like those innocent blue eyes can see every one of my sins, and I want to commit so many more with her.

I notice how her breathing turns uneven. That tells me she’s not indifferent to me. Unable to resist, I let my hands slide down to her hips.

Tightening my grip around them, I pull her closer, pressing her body against mine. She doesn’t hesitate or try to push me away.

“Why did you lie, sweet thing?” I ask, cutting straight to it, her face just inches from mine.

“What did you say?” Her brows knit together.

“I’ll admit, I felt a little offended last night… It was the first time a woman didn’t remember my face.”

“I don’t understand…”

“What don’t you understand, sweet thing?”

She blinks, and then her eyes go wide as realization hits her.

“Oh my God… That was you?” she asks, shocked. “I’m sorry… I… there was so much blood…”

“I don’t know if I buy your excuses. After all, you lied to me.”

“I’m sorry. I couldn’t trust you. I thought you might be dangerous.”

“Let’s do this… I’ll accept your apology if you agree to go out with me.”

“All right, that sounds fair.” She nods after a moment.

“Give me your phone, sweet thing.”

She hands me her phone, and after saving my number, I send myself a message to save hers.

“You’re way too arrogant for a professor,” she says when I hand it back, making me smile at her bluntness.

But this time, I can’t resist. Her lips are just too close.

Pushing her against the wall, I crush my mouth to hers, taking her in a hungry kiss. She kisses me back just as fiercely, pressing her breasts to my chest, driving me insane.

I pin her arms above her head and grind my hips into hers. I want to rip her clothes off and fuck her hard right here.

It’s been a long time since a woman got under my skin like this. She’s making me impatient and ravenous, but I need to make it clear how things are going to work between us.

I pull back, against my own will, before anyone can see us.

“Wait for my message, sweet thing,” I say, taking one last look at her flushed face before walking away.
