09. Apollo High

I got off the bus with the rest of the school kids.

I kind of felt weird since I had never worn a school uniform before. Not even at my old school. Mark had gifted me this school uniform along with my other gifts which made me raise a brow.

I scoffed looking at it. I had a white dress shirt, followed by a grey blazer sporting the school logo of the golden bow (representing the greek demi-god the school was named after) on the right side of the pocket. I had a red plaid skirt and a red tie to match it. I also had some simple black shoes to go with it thanks to Mark.

I don't know how he managed to get my size, but I'm just glad everything fit.

Before he left home last night he gave me a few of my other gifts. I was shocked to see a pocket knife and a taser. I raised a brow at him.

'What's this?'

'Your special gifts. Keep them safe and keep them out of sight and have them with you at all times Kavyaa.'

He was the only person in this town who knew my real name. I knew I was going to miss him for the next three months.

He quickly showed me how to use the pocket knife and taser which I found cool and scary at the same time. I wasn't the type to use weapons at all, but he looked down at me seriously.

'This isn't necessary for you to use, but as a precaution to your security please carry it with you always.'

To make him feel at ease, I nodded my head.

My guardian (who had no idea about the special gifts that Mark had gifted me) on the other hand gifted me with his credit card.

'These are for your living expenses. So don't go too crazy." Mr Verrono said holding poker face. Overall, he was a very considerate man towards me despite his scary looks. He'd been the perfect gentleman to Mark and I throughout our brief meeting with him.

Despite the terrifying aura of a predator that surrounded him and Mark, they weren't such bad guys.

Looking over to the school, I saw that it was a rather large looking Victorian manor.

I walked over to the school entrance with the big banner that said.

'Welcome to Apollo High. Home of the Titans. Go Titans!'

As I walked through the hallways, I noted that many of the students here were dripping with money.

It seems I scored a scholarship to get into this place, but quite frankly I still looked like a simpleton that didn't stand out among the rich crowd. Which was perfect since I didn't wish to stand out anyway.

"Did you hear? There was another murder last night."

"Where?"

"At Molly's diner."

The gossiping teens took their disturbing conversation the minute they saw me coming closer. I was headed towards the reception desk. I could not help but catch what one of them said.

There's been a murder in town?

A shiver ran down my spine instantly thinking about Kane and his trios.

"Hi there can I help you? You look new around here?" A friendly receptionist who was in her late fifties smiled warmly at me as I approached the desk. Her tag name said 'Kathy'

"Hello, yes you're right I'm new. I'm supposed to come here to collect my student I.D badge?"

"That's correct, now let's have your name and i'll tick you off my system." Her eyes darted toward her monitor screen.

"Ka..I mean It's Mia Chaves." I quickly corrected.

It's Mia damnit not Kavyaa anymore. Not for the next three months at least.

The receptionist quickly pulled up my name and opened up her drawer and got a camera. She pulled me towards a white looking pillar and took a picture of my clueless looking face.

"This will take around 10 minutes for me to print out and laminate for you. I'll deliver it to your class soon enough [also hands out her timetable] which will be Science room 105 in block A."

"Umm..Which way is that again?"

"Oh just a minute dear, [Kathy catches a student walking by] Mr Miller."

A boy with a dark short military cut styled hair, stopped in his tracks and came over to the reception desk. He had pale skin and blue eyes, and was a foot taller than me.

"Morning Mrs Kathy." He smiled warmly glancing at her and then to me.

"Morning dear. This is Miss Mia Chaves. She's new at Apollo and doesn't know her way around school yet. Will you be a dear, and guide her?"

The young teen smiled showcasing a little dimple on his right cheek.

"Sure? Hi nice to meet you I'm Chase." He stretched out his hand and I shook it sensing no strong animal vibes like I did at Mr Verrono's estate last night.

"Hi, i'm Mia (NOT) and thanks for guiding me." I hated lying, but for now to keep a low profile I knew I had to be deceptive to this guy who was no doubt three years younger than me.

"Ah may I see your class schedule?"

I nodded my head and handed it over to him.

"Good news you have some classes with me, that includes the science class that we should not get late to, so c'mon and keep up newbie, this place can be like a maze."

Chase took off running and I took off running after him.

Yeah, no kidding! This place is like a maze, plus it's huge!

"Hey! No running in the hallway!" We passed a nerd like school monitor who blew a whistle at us and I stopped, but then Chase grabbed my hand, pulling me along.

"Woah!"

"Ignore him."

"Is it bad to get late to class?" I asked running behind him. Damn this kid was fast.

"Yes and no. But in this case, we have an annoying teacher who hates tardiness and lateness. If we arrive late in his class, well it's detention time for us, and nobody likes detention, especially not with him."

He pulled my hand into a corner and finally stopped.

"Phew, we're just in time." He let go of my hand and gave me back my schedule.

"Welcome to Science class with Mr Finlay (whispers in her ear) A world class douchebag."

"I heard that, and you two are late." A strict voice said.

A man in his early thirties wearing a white lab coat standing by his desk caught our attention.

"Mr Miller you should know better than to come late and you..."

The wild strict looking teacher tilted his head, glancing at me with his somewhat strange brown with red flecks eyes at me.

This guy had a weird vibe to him, much like Mr Verrono, only less in spectrum.

"Well Mr Finlay, this is Mi.." Chase started.

"Shutup and get inside class Mr Miller." Mr Finlay quickly cut him off.

"Ok." Chase obeyed releasing a breath he didn't realise he was holding.

"Pardon me but where is your student I.D badge young Miss?"

The strict yet somewhat easy on the eyes teacher fired.

"Oh, Mrs Kathy is processing it at her desk for me. I'm the new student..My name —"

"Well lucky for you, I don't care. Now get inside my class before I give you a detention." He snapped.

Wow.

Ok Chase, I see what you mean here. He's a complete douchebag.

He held the door open for me, and just as I passed by him, I couldn't help but feel that he took a little whiff past my shoulder.

I'm just going to pretend like he didn't do that.

As I entered class, I saw the rest of the students.

Including the two female murder gossipers at the back of the class.

Chase sat in the middle of the class and pulled out his text book.

Most of the kids did and some where given a rude awakening by Mr Finlay who slammed a text book in front of their desks.

"Sleeping in my class Jones? That's not a great start to the day is it?"

"Sorry Mr Finlay."

"Don't care, that's still detention." He snapped.

The fat kid groaned rubbing he's eyes.

"Right before we start class, we have a new lamb that's joined us."

Did he just call me a lamb?!

I had a flash back of Mr Verrono's rude obnoxious girlfriend, Sasha.

"Lamb, don't just stare you do have a tongue I hope?" He fired making the class giggle at me.

Urgh, I hate this guy.

Eyes were upon me from every angle. I started to become a little overwhelmed by the sudden attention.

But being new, I knew I had to suck it up and get it over with.

"Mm..It's Mia Chaves." Crap, hold it together, do not cry! Do not cry! $hit I see water forming.

"Well Miss Chaves, take your seat wherever you can find one. Since you're new I'll let you off. You should know I hate students that come late to my class, and when they do, it's detention time with me. Comprende?"

Yes b!tch comprende.

"Yes sir." I replied back earning me a short smile from him.

I quickly took my seat at the back of the class where an Asian looking girl with a streak of pink in her hair sat.

"Greetings, I'm Seo-in Park."

"Hi, it's Mia." /Kavya but whatever.

"Ok, you sleezy bunch of misfits, turn to page 67." Finlay fired.

Seo-in opened up her text book and kindly shared her book with me.

"Today we will learn about caves and mountains."

"Even Storm Mountain?" asked a nerd up front.

Mr Finlay looked sharply at the nerdy kid sitting next to Chase. Chase instantly avoided eye contact with the strict looking teacher and glued his eyes on his text book.

Mr Finlay then made his way towards the nerdy looking kid with glasses making him instantly sink into his chair.

"That mountain is off limits Mr Douglas even in class discussions, is that clear?"

"Yes sir." He nervously gulped making the feirce looking teacher turn on his heels and start his lecture.

Chase on the other hand slapped his friend's arm.

"Ow."

"Why the heck would you ask him about that mountain?" He whispered in an angry tone.

"What? I was only curious since it's like the most forbidden mountain to venture into on this island." Douglas whispered back.

"It's forbidden for a reason."

"Hey you knuckleheads, i'm talking!" Mr Finaly fired making the boys alert.

"Sorry sir." Douglas quickly apologised, followed by Chase.

The class continued on in strict silence but I couldn't help but catch a bit of their conversation since they were sitting right in front of me and Seo-In.

After class, I received my student I.D badge and Seo-In was kind enough to show me around school.

Luckily for me I had many classes with her, and some with Chase.

She toured me around the school and told me the areas I could go to and the areas that I should definitely need to avoid. She also pointed out some clicks.

"Those are your nerds over there, they're harmless but if you get on their bad side they can sabotage your locker with a gross stink bomb. [Moves along the cafeteria hallway and spots the cool looking kids] Then you got the populars, your cheerleaders and jocks ofcourse and across from them you got your harjuku/kpop dance girls..."

"Cool."

Seo-In scoffed.

"Nope they're not, they're horrible at dancing and singing and they're desperately trying to be the next BlackPink girls. Boy do they have a long way to go."

Then suddenly, two guys kicked the door open making everyone startle.

"Oh $h!t."

"Who are they?"

"Bad news, I'll explain later, but for now it's for the best that we don't come in their way." She quickly pulled me back as more people came from behind them.

In total, they were six. Four guys and two girls. They walked in with a dark danger looming around them. Almost all the kids were frozen in their seats, and when they cast their eyes upon them, they immediately looked away.

A nervous chill ran down my spine when one member of the 'bad news gang' as Seo-in keenly put it, shot a glance towards me, with his striking green eyes.

"Oh, there's the lamb." One of his gang members said, making green eyes avert his eyes from me.

They spotted the jock table and suddenly one of the jock abruptly got up from their chair, as one of the 'bad news gang' shot him a wild grin.

When he noticed them, the scared-looking athlete spat out the drink he was having. He dropped his soda can with a nervous tremble and he got up quickly from his chair, making it fall behind him.

He quickly ran for the exit doors and was suddenly pushed back inside by a pair of arms, roughly.

Suddenly I felt quite a high aura coming from the boy who just pushed the fear-stricken jock.

"You're not escaping from us again freckles."

Green eyes then suddenly caught the jock's red hair with a powerful grip and dragged him away making him scream.

'No!! Please! I didn't do it! I didn't do it! III...IT IT WASN'T ME!!' He cried out.

'Really? We'll let Alpha Roman decide that freckles.' The one that pushed him said with an angry grin.

The four boys followed along with a girl with long black hair going past her hips. She wore a stone cold expression whilst the other girl smiled with a charming smile.

"Nothing to see here folks, carry on as you were, and don't you dare try to follow us. Remember the golden rule. Mind your business lambs, unless you want trouble with the wolves." She said closing the door behind her after they dragged out the terrified-looking jock.

Everyone started gossiping the minute they left.

'What do you think he's done?'

'Drugs.'

'What? No, Ricky isn't the type to do drugs. He's not the best at academics, but his parents are loaded to keep him at this prestigious school, plus he's a great lacrosse player.'

'Well not anymore, if the student council has caught him that must be because he's done something bad.'

'Oh my god, I think I know what it's about?'

'What?!'

'Ricky must be involved in the murder that happened at the local diner in town...'

Seo-In pulled me away from the cafeteria gossip leaving me stunned and speechless.

"Care to explain the bad news gang Seo-In?"

She looked around and sighed out.

"I can't here."

"Why not?"

"They're too many of their spies about."

"Spies?" My brows furrowed in confusion.

"Look it's hard for me to explain, but give me your number and I'll explain later, just not here."

A flashback of Mark throwing my phone out of the window before I came to this island came freshly to my mind.

I can't believe I don't have a phone.

Then the imaginary bulb lit ontop of my head.

Mr Verrono did mention that I should use his credit card under emergency circumstances.

"My phone is dead like the battery is gone and I need to get a new phone."

"Oh? Ok I can help you my cousin actually runs a phone shop downtown, I can get you a good deal?"

I grinned at the offer.

"That sounds great!"

.

.

.

Seo-In then took me downtown and I was in awe with all the precious phones displayed in the glass cabinet.

"So which one will you go for?"
