I had one plan for the summer after my college classes ended. I needed a job since I recently lost mine and my apartment. I can’t stay with my brother forever. I need my space back, and I am sure he needs his, too.

But all that is about to change when my brother’s best friend Paxton comes to stay for the summer, and my plans go out of the window. 

To the rest of the world, Paxton is a millionaire rockstar who is a bad boy who screws around and is always getting himself into trouble he shouldn’t be. To me, he is the guy who was always around until he left and forgot about me. My first crush. My first love when I was a teenager, even though I knew he would never be mine. Back then, he was a good guy with a huge heart and someone who would do anything for anyone. He had become a shadow of himself. 

What I didn’t expect was that one summer would change everything. I didn’t expect Paxton to see me in a different light. I tell myself I am over him and have been for a long time, but things change when we begin to spend more time together. I see the old him coming through, the real him, the one I fell in love with all those years, but none of it matters because nothing can ever happen, no matter how close we become. My brother would kill him. We would never work. I am just an ordinary nerdy girl who loves to lose herself in the world of fiction. And someone like me should never be with someone like Paxton. I would never fit into his new world. He would never be around in mine.
