Chapter 177
[Third-Person’s POV]
Alexander needed to get his wife out of the palace and back to the serene privacy of their own home. Now.
Every step he took was accompanied by a vicious burning urge. An urge to claim his Luna right there and then.
Whether Evelyn was aware of it or not, Alexander found her lethalness to be downright alluring. Watching her tear down Caroline in front of all of those people—the King no less—was utterly intoxicating. Who would have thought that his adorably compassionate wife had the ability to reduce even the cruelest of people to speechless stammering?
Watching Caroline fumble over her own words, looking like a complete fool, and become as pale as a ghost was by far the most amusing thing he’d witnessed in a long time. And to think, it was his own Luna who made it happen.
Alexander felt his chest fill with unmeasurable pride and heavy arousal.
It caused most of the blood in his body to head directly south. The second he felt his pants begin to tighten, he quickly picked up his pace. He snagged her hand and tugged her along, needing to get to the car as soon as possible.
With luck, she would hopefully indulge him this time around. The man didn’t necessarily have a possible exhibition kink; however, he was becoming increasingly curious to find out how many times he could get his wife to climax before they reached the borders of Kingston Hall.
He could practically taste the freedom of the outside air when all of a sudden his ears were filled with a voice that had long since been forgotten in his mind.
“Alexander?”
Rena.
His fiery state of fervor was instantly cooled down the moment he caught the overwhelming scent of her floral perfume. Alexander stopped, yet he kept himself facing forward.
It wasn’t as though he was afraid to face her. What Alexander was dearing most at that moment was the unpredictability that hummed in the back of his mind. Of course, she was going to demand some kind of explanation like the rest of them had.
But her reaction was undoubtedly going to leave more of a sting. For months she had believed in his damaged physical state, much like everyone else, and looked upon him with that unbearable sense of pity. He couldn’t stand it.
Had Rena not left him all time ago to find something ‘better’, he would have told her the truth from the very beginning. But no. She’d fallen into that collective category of people who didn’t need to be made any the wiser as a result.
God only knew he didn’t have it in him to deal with her now. Evelyn, on the other hand, turned to acknowledge Rena with a soft smile.
“Hello, Princess Rena,” she acknowledged. “It’s nice to see you again.”
“Y-Yes, you too,” she said wistfully.
Alexander could still tell that the woman’s eyes were solely locked on him. It was only when he felt the slight squeeze of Evelyn’s hand did he finally chose to acknowledge the other woman’s presence.
He drew his eye over his shoulder to peer over at Rena.
“Your Highness?”
There was no mistaking the bitterness in his tone as he spoke. If he didn’t know any better, Alexander could have sworn that he saw Rena flinch.
She repeatedly opened her mouth as if to speak yet nothing was able to come out. Once more, Evelyn extended the olive branch to help ease the growing awkwardness around them.
“I’m sure you’re rather confused and shocked about Alexander’s current physical state...Am I correct?” she asked softly.
Rena aimlessly nodded her head. “I just...Why?”
“Why what?” Alexander questioned harshly. He curled one of his brows upward and glared down at the young woman. “As I have no doubt, you have very well likely already overheard every single word that was spoken in that room just now. If my memory serves correctly, you’ve always had a knack for sneaking around and listening in.”
Rena’s face flushed.
“Look...I just...I think I deserve to hear from you directly,” she said, feeling bashful. “So, I’m asking ‘why?’.”
Alexander’s brows furrowed. “I think, perhaps, the real question you should be asking is why do you even care? In case you have forgotten, you and I had ended things long before I was supposedly caught up in that car accident. All those pitiful looks you always gave...”
Rena tried to fight back the childish pout that used to normally work on Alexander when they were still together. It had always been a useful tactic to get what she wanted. However, if it was true that he really loved Evelyn, then there was no point in her trying to do so now.
Indeed, Alexander had been right. It would seem that Caroline wasn’t the only person who was trying to keep from being seen. Rena kept her ear close to the door of the throne room and felt her heart stagger wildly in her chest as Alexander proclaimed his reasons for loving Evelyn.
“...Evelyn is everything a perfect Luna should be...She’s compassionate and always puts others before herself...Her priorities lie not with materials but with opportunities...She is every Alpha’s dream partner and I would not trade her for anyone else in the world...She is, in every sense of the word, perfect...”
Those words stung Rena on many levels. It was going to take at least a week to fully digest them all.
The main reason behind the dull ache in her chest was that Rena was almost certain that Alexander never viewed her in such a commendable light. Unlike Evelyn, she did value material and she had a high tendency to place her comfort above others.
“Now, if your Royal Highness wouldn't mind, I need to take my wife home,” Alexander said icily. “We have a handful of more pressing matters to attend to at the moment.”
Rena sucked in a sharp breath. “Of course.”
Evelyn, as always, paid her respects and gave a courteous bow before Alexander practically hauled her out the main doors.
“Alexander!” Evelyn huffed.
She could hardly catch her breath as he rushed them back to the car. He threw open the side door and tossed her onto the back seat as though she didn’t weigh a thing. He briskly instructed the driver to specifically take the long way home.
She instantly recognized the heat in his eyes and felt that familiar pulsing twinge at her core. Alexander pressed her back against the seat while taking his position down at her legs. He parted her knees with his hands and began kissing a long trail on the inner side of her thigh.
“Do you have any idea what you do to me?” he snarled in between kisses.
Evelyn gasped while gripping the leather seats for some kind of purchase. Her body shook and trembled the closer he got to her soaked center.
“My perfect Luna has such a vicious streak and then turns around and acts all sweet,” he husked.
Evelyn’s lips trembled; her heart slammed in her chest when she felt the material of her panties get torn to shreds.
“Oh my God,” she groaned.
“That’s right,” he hummed. “You were so magnificent today. Sit back and let me taste you like I’ve been wanting to since that ridiculous meeting.”
The first hot sweep of his tongue left no room for possible doubt in Evelyn’s mind. Alexander truly meant every word he’d said about her to the King.
