Chapter 133
[Third-Person’s POV]
Marital life for Samantha was not going the way she’d hoped and anticipated.
Her husband refused to even be in the same room as her, believing that she couldn’t be trusted to even share a meal together. Ever since the aphrodisiac mishap, Samantha had been the sole partner in the relationship considering Liam wanted nothing to do with her now.
She couldn’t blame him.
In her own backward way, Samantha felt cheated.
She’d been raised to believe that marriage was meant to be a certain way. She wasn’t expecting that she would have to work and perform harsh labor like everyone else. Samantha had never once plucked a single weed in her life to know the difference between that and a growing flower.
Liam’s pack was not that big to begin with, which essentially meant that they needed all the help they could get.
Her whole life, Samantha prided herself on fitting into the social crowds. She made sure to always be a part of the newest trends and have the highest fashions. But none of that mattered now.
Nowadays, no one cared what she wore. No one even paid her a single glance at her appearance, making her truly obsolete.
All those years trying to fit into the right social crowds—only to become the odd one out in her own pack.
Naturally, a lot of her anger was directed at Evelyn. Somehow it was her Stepsister’s fault that her life had ended up the way that it had.
It just isn’t fair.
How was it that her marriage to someone as monstrous as Alexander ended up being perfect? For someone like Evelyn, who couldn’t even hold a proper conversation at a single gathering, was now gaining all of the attention of various VIPs. Celebrities, fashion designers, and even the Royals were praising her for the most recent developments.
It didn’t make any sense. Samantha thought for sure that Evelyn was going to suffer in her own marriage if her wedding was any indication. That entire event was a joke in itself.
Yet, in the last several months, she was the one who began to think she was the true joke now.
Every time she tried to make amends with Liam, something would get between them. And, if she truly had to admit it, it was usually something she would either say or do that would cause the next riff.
Samantha knew that she was high-maintenance. But that was simply how her mother raised her to be. She was told that she not only deserved the best but should expect the best.
Her marriage to Liam was a constant reminder of how inexperienced and ill-prepared she was to help take partial ownership of a pack.
Over time, while her envy over Evelyn presistened, Samantha began to think a bit differently. Perhaps, it wasn’t her Stepsister’s fault that her own marriage was a total failure...After all, it had been her own mother who insisted on switching the marriage contracts around.
It was Isabella who had instilled that materialistic mentality of placing one’s appearance over real skill. Why hadn’t her mother taught her any legitimate lessons on pack dynamics? She knew how to properly dress herself for an occasion but nothing about agriculture and networking.
It had become a normal occurrence for her to run to her mother each and every time there was a problem. Instead of actually sitting down and giving her a much-needed talk, Isabella would come back with some kind of snarky remark and half-wit plan. A plan that would never work.
When that aphrodisiac had failed, Samantha had reached a breaking point. It wouldn’t have come as any surprise if Liam were to offer up divorce papers just to be rid of her.
Samantha couldn’t bear the public humiliation if word were to get out.
In the back of her mind, it was something she needed to prepare herself for. However, what Samantha wasn’t prepared for was seeing the latest breaking news flash all over her favorite gossip columns that morning.
‘Breaking News!! Alpha Alexander Kingston Wishes to Marry Again!’
For a brief flicker of hope, Samantha had seriously thought that Alexander was looking to divorce Evelyn and marry someone else. But the further she read into the article, the quicker she was to realize that wasn’t the case.
‘Yes! It’s been officially announced that the Alpha wishes to re-marry his current wife, Evelyn Kingston. Alexander has made it abundantly clear in his most recent statement that he regrets not having given his Luna the proper wedding that she deserves. Our sources claim that the happy couple is looking to host the ceremony sometime this late Spring or early Summer. Unfortunately, we don’t have all the facts as of yet, but one thing we can be sure of is that this next wedding is going to be and certainly grand!’
The corners of her eyes twitched. Her grip on the magazine had become so feral, that she found herself shaking.
This. Is. Bullshit!
Evelyn was going to be getting the wedding of Samantha’s dreams!!
Her breathing grew to be erratic as the anger inside of her soared to new, unimaginable heights. Since she’d been staying with her mother these past few days, all she had to do was head toward the living room to find the woman.
No doubt this was going to be shocking news even to her.
With the article clutched tightly in her hands, Samantha stormed out of her room to find Isabella. Every staff member she passed was quick to duck down to avoid the young woman’s fury.
“Mother?! Have you seen this??” she snarled. “You’re not going to believe what that ridiculous Alpha put out now!!”
Right as Samantha reached the living room, she immediately stopped short. Her eyes widened in shock as she saw the guests that were presently sitting around the room.
Both Caroline Kingston and Fiona were sitting on one of the couches, wearing similar looks of displeasure. Isabella turned to glance at her daughter’s sudden arrival and rolled her eyes at her lack of social etiquette.
“Dear, how lovely of you to drop in so unannounced,” Isabella muttered. “As you can see, we have guests.”
Samantha felt her cheeks flush a deep shade of pink when Fiona cackled quietly. She tried to collect herself by smoothing the wrinkles out of her skirt.
“I see that,” she said. “Hello, Mrs. Kingston. Fiona. Had I realized that you were coming, I would have greeted you much sooner.”
Caroline waved it off with little care. “Think nothing of it, as I’m sure you’re aware, things have been rather complicated for my family lately.”
Samantha took her seat in an available spot across from them. “Yes, I had heard. I’m sorry about Michael.”
In truth, Samantha still wasn't entirely sure what had happened between Michael and Alexander. Her interests hadn’t lingered too far beyond the publicity her Stepsister ended up getting as a result of the trial.
Caroline sighed. “That’s actually the reason why we’re here,” she noted. “What Alexander and that irritating bitch of a Luna did to my son cannot go unpunished. From what I’ve gathered, we’ve all been spurned by Evelyn one way or another.”
“You’re not wrong about that,” Fiona hissed. “Although, I’m curious to know what Samantha had been raving about when she first came here.”
All eyes turned to her and Samantha sneered in disdain. “Oh, you’re not going to believe this.”
