Chapter 119

[Third-Person’s POV]

Alexander felt himself stuck at a crossroads of some sort.

While he’d been patiently compiling all of the found evidence he intended to use against Michael in court, there was another issue that was due to rear its ugly head...

Why hadn’t there been any public announcement over the fact that he wasn’t actually paralyzed like he led everyone to believe? He was certain that after he’d revealed the true physical state to Isabella she would have run to the nearest news outlet to try and sell the hottest story of the decade.

For the last few days, he’d been highly anticipating waking up and finding his face plastered all over the front page of every possible newspaper. However, that clearly wasn’t the case.

Alexander wasn’t sure whether to be grateful or anxious for this shocking miracle.

If he learned anything from knowing Isabella, it was that the woman was as unpredictable as his own Stepmother, Caroline. Both women were hellaciously ambitious to a major fault. Once they had their hearts set on something, there was no deterring them. They’d do whatever it took to achieve their goals.

For Isabella to now know his best-kept secret, it placed him in a very precarious position. Would she overlook the fact or would she use it to her own advantage? The Alpha feared the latter of the two.

Who’s to say that Isabella was simply waiting for the right opportunity to use this vital piece of information to her own advantage?

She is by no means like her daughter in that regard.

Something had to be done before he wasn’t able to take control of the narrative any longer.

Alexander decided to turn his attention back toward the case file on his desk.

Isabella isn’t the only person who I need to be concerned about...Michael knows the truth as well.

How on earth was he going to show up in court with Michael spewing out the fact that he could walk? That it had all been a ruse?

The last thing he needed was to explain himself to the Alpha King. Believe it or not, he was still a greater threat than anyone else. There would come a time when he would have no choice but to reveal the truth of his physical state.

But owning up to that fact, any time soon, wouldn’t be in his best interest.

He’d reached an impasse and something needed to be decided on.

Knock. Knock. Knock.

He glanced up from his desk to see Oliver coming through the door with his own large folder of gathered notes and files. The look on his face made Alexander’s nerves coil even further.

While he was working his case on Michael, he’d sent Oliver off on an important job to gather anything on the car crash that had to do with any casualties—mainly, Evelyn’s brother.

“What did you find?” he dared to ask.

Oliver let out a stifling breath and placed the folder down on the desk. “It wasn’t easy,” he started. “For some reason, a lot of news outlets were quick to brush over the idea of there being any other casualties. They wanted to put the sole focus of the tragedy on you. But after a lot of rigorous digging around, something, unfortunately, surfaced.”

Oh, God.

Alexander had always felt that his theory regarding Edward’s possible involvement in the accident was correct. He didn’t want to be right about any of it. It just all turned out to be too coincidental for his liking.

Oliver knowingly went ahead and opened the folder. Sitting on top, was a small clipped-out news article titled ‘Motorcyclist Entangled in Freak Car Accident’.

Alexander felt his heart sink into his stomach the moment he came across the words ‘Edward Silverwood’. A majority of the passage was kept pretty vague. He found it strange that the article hadn’t gone into any real detail about the car that had swept him off his bike.

“As soon as I got the motorcycle information, I sent out a few men around to search for it.”

“Was it in a junkyard like the car was?” he asked.

The Beta shook his head. “Shockingly enough, we traced it back to a local mechanic in town. He’s currently trying to restore it. We asked him if he knew anything about what happened to the motorcycle or its initial owner. The guy just described the whole situation like the papers had done. A freak car accident.”

Alexander sank back into his chair and pinched the bridge of his nose in defeat. This was not going to be an easy conversation to have.

Part of him actually debated about bringing it to Evelyn’s attention at all. Knowing that her brother’s health was improving slowly but surely was always her main concern.

To bring up the past may just end up upsetting her. However...She deserves to know the person responsible for putting her brother’s life at risk in the first place.

Granted it may not have been intentional, but Michael needed to face the whole reality of his actions.

He took in a long breath and slowly nodded his head. “Find Evelyn. She needs to know this.”

[Evelyn’s POV]

Things between Alexander and me were progressing at such a fierce rate, that it was hard to believe any of it was real. Each moment when he and I would become intimate, it was as if I was discovering a whole new side to myself.

One that made me feel desired, impassioned and truly wanted. Because of him, I came to the startling realization that I had a number of turn-ons that I would never have guessed.

Needless to say, I found myself feeling deeply gratified and dare I say ‘happy’.

Certain matters still kept the tension alive and well around the place. Knowing that Michael was still residing in the house made it a bit difficult at times. But I knew that Alexander had been working tremendously on compiling all of the files and evidence to present to the Royals so that Michael could be properly dealt with.

I knew this situation wasn’t going to last forever. So, in the meantime, I tried to go about my normal routine. After spending most of the morning in bed with Alexander, I made my way down to the greenhouse to tend to my plants.

Nina was kind enough to take the time out of her own schedule to join me.

“So, do you think it’s almost time to begin harvesting some of them for your new tea blend?” she asked.

“Almost,” I said with a smile. “Thankfully, the winter hasn’t been too brutal lately and most of the plants were able to withstand the cooler temperatures thus far. But hopefully, before the Spring, I’ll have the full mixture ready to be processed and shipped out.”

I turned my head at the sound of the greenhouse door opening. It was Oliver. He looked slightly pale as he wore an expression of pure indecisiveness.

“Oliver? What’s wrong?”

“You need to come to Alexander’s office, we need to discuss a rather important matter with you.”

I glanced back to look at Nina who seemed just as intrigued as I was. For someone like Oliver, who was normally so calm and collected a majority of the time, to be panicked and short for words was unsettling.

A sudden wave of fear hit me. “Oh my God, has something happened to Edward?!”

He shook his head, which thankfully eased my nerves to some degree, but his demeanor hadn’t changed.

“As far as I know, your brother is doing just fine. But the matter we need to discuss does happen to pertain to him.”

What on earth does that mean?
