Chapter 6 The Accusation

Ophelia's POV

I stared down, biting my lip, my heart racing rapidly, almost bursting out of my chest.

He grabbed my shoulder firmly. “Tell me what you are hiding, Ophelia? Why did the rogue mention the moon pack, are you connected to it?” He asked.

My head spins, the flare in my hand, the glowing bracelet is hiding it but it is glowing even stronger.

He tried to catch my wrist, but I instantly pulled away.

His eyes narrowed, he held out my hand forcefully. He didn't remove the bracelet but stared.

I pinned my lip together, closing my eyes patiently waiting for him to remove it, but he didn't, he glanced back at me, as if he didn't notice.

“Who are you, and what are you trying so hard to hide?” He asked again, I swallowed hard, my lip shut.

Suddenly a loud crash came from the banquet hall, his gaze shifted to the directions of the hall.

The guest screamed.

A servant rushed out, kneeling before the king.

“My Lord! Lady Seraphina… she fainted.”

King Logan's gaze tightened.

He glanced at me, he gripped my chin tightly. “Don't run away,” he said before rushing the hall.

I had a sigh of relief. I watched his cold back as he walked to the hall, I felt a string pulled in my heart.

“All of you get out,” I heard his cold voice coming from the room.

The guests rushed out screaming, they stared at me as they walked out, whispering.

“How did Lady Seraphina fainted?”

“Strange things keep happening since she got here,” their voices are loud enough for me to hear.

I thought this place would be different, but I was wrong, why did I think everything would change all of a sudden?

Their cold stares almost peel off my skin.

My breath hitched, I wrapped my arm around myself, my chest tightened, I thought I had left all of it in a moon pack but no.

My gaze dropped low, I stood there shaking. Not because of their whispering, but because king Logan will be back.

King Logan rushed out carrying Lady Seraphina in his arms.

Suddenly, a burning sensation spread from my glowing wrist up to my arm.

My chest tightened, I fell a pull, an invisible thread dragging me towards king Logan.

My wrist still burns under the bracelet, it was more powerful this time.

I tried to resist, but my leg moved without my command pulling me toward him. I walked to the door, staring from outside. I have no intention of entering the room, I stay outside watching.

My chest tightened. He was holding onto her hand like his lover.

My wrist burns more, almost bursting out. It hurts, I hold my wrist but it burns my hand. I quickly pulled away and fell on my knee. I will stay there for a while. my forehead burning, sweat formed.

My whole body trembled violently as the door slit open.

I jerked my head up, my heart pounding wildly, expecting to see King Logan…

But it wasn’t him.

A young maid slipped inside, her eyes wide, almost terrified. She shut the door behind her quickly as if she was running from something.

“What is happening to you?” she whispered, staring straight at my glowing wrist.

“I—I don’t know,” I whispered back, my voice hoarse. “Please just leave… I don’t want anyone to see me like this.”

But she didn’t move.

Her breath hitched, her eyes lowering. “His Majesty told me to check if you needed water.”

She stepped closer and my wrist burned hotter, the fire crawling up my arm again like it wanted to burst free.

The maid gasped and stumbled backward. “Y-Your hand… it’s—”

“Please don’t say anything,” I whispered shakily. “I beg you.”

She swallowed hard and nodded, backing toward the door as if she wasn’t sure if she should run or stay.

Before she could leave, heavy footsteps echoed down the hall, deep, slow, and familiar.

My heart jumped painfully, beating so fast I felt dizzy.

King Logan.

The maid quickly bowed and rushed out. The door shut behind her, leaving me alone… breathing sharply… my wrist is still glowing under the bracelet.

The door opened again, stronger this time.

He stepped outside.

It was like the air thickened, like something inside me reached for him without my permission. My wrist glowed brighter the moment he entered, and my chest tightened painfully.

He didn’t speak at first. He just looked at me, like he was trying to read my soul.

His eyes swept over my trembling form, then stopped at my wrist. My hand glowed like a burning coal under the thin bracelet.

I quickly hid it behind me.

“Show me,” he said quietly, voice deep.

I shook my head instantly. “I don’t know what this is—I swear, I didn’t do anything—”

“Ophelia,” he said again, stepping closer, “show me.”

His voice carried a weight I couldn’t fight.

Slowly, I held out my hand.

The bracelet shimmered… the flames beneath it flickering through my skin.

His jaw tightened. His brows drew together—not in anger but in something close to confusion… or fear.

Fear of what I was.

He reached for my wrist. I flinched and pulled back but he caught it again, his hand firm, warm. The glow reacted instantly, flaring brighter under his touch.

“It reacts to me,” he murmured, half to himself, half to the universe.

I swallowed hard. “I told you… I don’t know why—”

“You’re lying.”

I lowered my gaze. Tears filled my eyes.

“I’m not lying… I don’t know anything… I don’t even know what I am.”

He stared at me for a long moment. His expression was unreadable, but his grip never left my wrist.

“I sent Seraphina away,” he said suddenly.

I blinked. “Wh…Why?”

He didn’t answer.

Instead, he stepped even closer, his chest inches from mine, his breath mixing with mine. His eyes glowed faintly silver.

“Because when you fall… when you couldn’t breathe… I felt it.”

My breath caught.

“What?” I whispered.

He exhaled as if frustrated. “I felt a pull. A sharp pain in my chest. I thought—”

He stopped himself. His jaw tightened again.

“No. Never mind.”

I didn’t know what to say. My heart pounded against my ribs.

He looked torn, confused, angry, all at once.

Suddenly, loud footsteps echoed again, rushing through the hallway.

“Your Majesty!” Beta Hendrick called,

King Logan shut his eyes for a moment, frustrated, before stepping back from me.

The three elders walked towards us.

The air grew colder instantly.

“Your Majesty,” one elder said, bowing. “We must discuss the rogue’s message. And the girl.”

Their gaze flicked toward me, cold judging and dangerous, I felt it.

King Logan stepped between us instantly, blocking their view of me.

“You will wait,” he snapped.

The elders stiffened, shocked.

“Logan—she is a trespasser—”

“She is under my protection.”

Silence fell.

Beta Hendrick broke it. “My King, the council needs you. Now.”

Logan looked at me for a long second.

Something strange happened between us.

“Take her to my private quarters,” he ordered sharply. “She stays there. Do not touch her. Do not speak to her. Do not go near her unless I say so.”

Everyone froze.

The elders exchanged looks of pure shock.

Beta Hendrick paled. “Y-Your Majesty, no outsider has ever—”

“I said what I said.”

The authority in his voice was cutting.

He didn’t look at me again. He didn’t need to.

I felt his presence leaving like a storm pulling away.

Beta Hendrick approached me carefully, as if I might burn him. And honestly… maybe I would.

I followed him quietly down the hall. My wrist stopped burning slowly… as if it missed Logan already.

The moment I entered his private chamber, the glow dropped to a faint shimmer.

Beta Hendrick shut the door behind me and left immediately.

I stood alone. My knees finally gave out.

I sank onto his bed, my hands trembling, my mind spinning.

Why me?Why this glow? Why him?

My heart raced again.

The door opened, and King Logan stepped inside.
