Chapter 1
KEISHA'S POV
Tales have had it that omegas can never mingle with the elite of the pack let alone an Alpha. Well, mine was different. The moon goddess found me worthy and handed me a ticket out of the trench.
Alpha Alan and I have been seeing each other and damn it, every moment with him was bliss. Though we kept it a secret, our mate's pull was undeniable. I eagerly awaited the mating ceremony when he'd shock the entire Nightbane pack by announcing me as his Luna.
Today marked his 25th birthday. While I wished to sit by his side, here I was serving his guests— some of whom I wished I could strangle.
Amid the crowd, loud music and dazzling lightning, my eyes found him. Tall, broad-shouldered, chiseled jawline, his tuxedo hugging his frame perfectly while his hair was scattered in a sexy kind of disheveled manner, partially falling over his face. I was lovestruck.
As though he had eyes by his side, he whipped his hair sideways, turning in my direction— butterflies began to flutter in my tummy. I blocked out the sound of music and chattering of people, narrowing the room to just the two of us.
“Hey! Hey!” The barman snapped me back to reality. “I'm certain you no longer value your job around here,” he hissed.
I spun around with a gasp, stuttering. “I…I'm sorry,” I apologized, hurriedly picking up the tray of red wine, ready to serve the guest. Taking another glance in Alpha Alan’s direction— he was gone. My excitement dashed away, leaving me to the harshness of reality. I hissed, stepping into the crowd.
“Sorry! Excuse me!” I yelled, though the music drowned my voice. Elbows from overexcited dancers jabbed me from different corners making me wince as I weaved through the crowd, careful not to drop the wine I carried on anyhow.
Halfway through the crowd, my foot caught on something. I stumbled, my tray tilting right into a well-dressed couple, before clattering on the floor.” A gasp louder than the music echoed, and my heart sank.
“What have I done?” My heart banged in my chest like a war drum. Looking over my shoulder, my jaw dropped.
Luna Denise of the Crescent pack! I trembled. Tales have it that she ruled the Crescent pack with an iron fist. Definitely not a lady to mess with and right now I just soiled her crystal white ball dress with red wine.
“You piece of shit!” A sting of pain reverberated from my head throughout my body as she yanked me from my ponytail, pulling me to eye level.
“Are you blind? How dare you ruin my dress?” Her question was accompanied by a slap that buckled my feet. “Grab her!” She ordered.
In a split second, my arms were gripped by strong hands. Their nails dug into my skin as they dragged me through the shards of glass littered on the floor, each piece tearing deep into my arm.
“I'm sorry! Please have mercy. It was a mistake,” I wailed, warm blood trickling down my arm.
“Do you know how much damage you've caused? I'm certain your miserable generation put together cannot afford this,” she barked, scraping my face with the rough lace of her ball dress. No one dared to speak on my behalf except Alan, but he was nowhere in sight.
The drama was beginning to draw attention when Mrs Jacqueline, the head of hospitality for the occasion ran into the scene.
“My goodness! What have you done?” She exclaimed, her expression dropping into a scowl.
In the twinkle of an eye, my day went from bad to worse. Either I lose my job and be left with nothing to pay for the damages or I'd be whipped for my carelessness and thrown into detention.
“It was entirely a mistake Ma,” my voice broke as I pleaded, tears streaming down my cheeks. “I… I didn't mean to ruin her dress. I… I just tripped and…”
“Shut up!” She punctuated my explanation with a bark. Her eyes burned with unbridled rage. “Clean up this mess this minute!” She ordered, turning her attention to Luna Denise. “This way your, Highness. I'm so sorry, please let's get you fixed.*
Her voice, which was just raining fire and brimstone, toned down as she carefully escorted Luna Denise off the scene.
“This is just a warning,” the guards growled in my ear, throwing me off like a piece of garbage. I collapsed yet again into another piece of glass.
“Urgh!”
Grunted in pain, I bit down on my teeth, my fingers trembled as I pulled out a chunk of glass from my forearm— hot tears blurring my vision.
“I'm so sorry Keisha,” Lumis, my wolf spirit consoled me. “You just have to endure a little more. The mating ceremony is a couple of weeks from now and all this will be over,” she said.
I couldn't respond. Instead, I took off my shirt, bending on my knee, and began to mop the spill with it.
“Well Well Well…Who do we have here?” Emilia, one of Aurora's friends strolled over, her voice dripped with jest as she lingered looking down on a bruised body.
“Oh! She's bleeding,” the second voice, Aria mouthed in mockery. “Awwnn…she's crying too? I think she needs medical attention,” She leaned over, looking into my face with fake concern.
These two have been a thorn in my life. Friends to Aurora, my best friend, I'm yet to understand the reason they despised me so much. Thankfully Aurora comes to my rescue, but just like Alan, she wasn’t here to save me this time.
I swallowed the embarrassment, still mopping the floor.
“I think you missed a spot!” Emilia giggled emptying her drink on me before walking off with Aria.
Whatever was left of my dignity was crushed. I heaved rapidly trying to hold back the tears welling up in my eyes. The moment I was done, I walked off the scene burying my head in shame.
“Keisha!”
I flinched barely halfway to the store room.
“What was the meaning of that display? Do you want to earn enemies for the Nightbane pack?” Mrs Jacqueline came back for me, pulling me by my ear towards the VIP restroom.
“Believe me ma, I never planned for that to happen. It was entirely an accident,” my brows knitted together in remorse but she was not having it with me.
“I have nothing to say to you until the event is over!” She growled, tossing the VIP toilet’s key card and some fresh uniform at me. “Get in there, fix yourself, and meet me at the kitchen in fifteen minutes,” she ordered, her tone not giving room for negotiations.
“Yes, ma!” I bowed, hastening my steps.
I slid down to the floor after shutting the door behind me— my arm, sore and burning with intense pain. Burying my face between my legs, I sobbed bitterly.
I couldn't endure any longer. My body trembled but I dared not keep my Mrs Jacqueline waiting. I rose to my feet, walking over to the sink.
In front of me was a half-length mirror that reflected my ordeal. Sliding it to the left, I reached for the first aid kit in the cabinet behind when I realized I wasn't alone in the restroom.
What was that? My ear twitched in the direction of the sound. The closer I moved, the more audible it became—soft moans, muffled giggles, and deep grunts of pleasure. Perhaps it was one of the drunk couples from the party. I rolled my eyes, turning on my heel when a voice stabbed me like a knife to the chest.
“Open up, baby. Damn it! I can't wait to make you wholly mine!”
My world tilted. Everything I had held onto came crashing down. That voice? No, it can't be. My eyes became glassy with tears. Shuddering silently, I moved closer to the changing room, pressing my ear against the door.
“I do not understand why the moon goddess would want to ruin my reputation by mating me with a lowlife,” he grunted deeply.
“Oh, Alan,” a voice sighed in pleasure. “I can't wait to see the look on her face when you reject her and only then will she realize she was just a pawn in the game.” she sneered in between soft moans while Alan roared softly.
Aurora? Alan? My eyes flew open in disbelief. How can this be possible? My lips trembled as I struggled to get a grip on my emotions. Hot tears burned my cheeks as they rolled down my face.
In between was the undeniable sound of skin slapping on another skin in a rhythmic thrust. Their breaths grew more frantic and feral. They were having sex! Betrayal coiled my heart like a snake.
Without thinking, I grabbed the door handle and pushed it open.
“What the hell!” Alan barked, mid-thrust.
