Chapter 1 Let the night begin
Emily PoV
I felt hands touching me so passionately, as if they knew every corner of my body and precisely where to touch. A shiver ran down my spine as his lips found my neck. 'God, this feels like heaven,' I thought.". With one hand, he slipped beneath my shirt to cup my breast, and with the other, he started easing my pants down. The moment his fingers began to breach my panties, I heard my name called—a sound that was initially faint but quickly grew insistent and loud, then my eyes flattered open. Then i realised it was Sarah calling me from the kitchen. Before I had a chance to collect my thoughts, the door burst open, and she rushed in, speaking loudly. I wondered how she could possibly possess such energy this early in the morning.
“Someone better be dying,' I said, leaning back against the headboard, still grappling with mixed thoughts about the crazy dream I had just experienced.
Throwing herself onto the bed, she settled close to me, giving me a playful hug. "I missed you," she said, pouting. "I haven't seen you in forever—it's like we don't even live together."
'And whose fault is that?' I asked, gently shoving her away from me.
'Ouch! Hey, what was that for?' she complained, rubbing her arm."
'It’s for abandoning me for a man,' I said, standing up and heading to the bathroom to freshen up.
“Oh, come on, that’s not fair! I’m just a girl,' she said, following me with her eyes. 'Let’s go out tonight, just the two of us; we have a lot to catch up on. Or maybe, just maybe, you will find yourself a worthy man tonight,' she said, waiting patiently for a yes.
The hospital has been busy these past weeks, and I've been exhausted and really looking forward to enjoying my day off. On the other hand, I have a lot of catching up to do with Sarah. And what harm could a little dancing and champagne do?.
I met Sarah in medical school, but she made the tough decision to leave and pursue business instead. Despite our different career paths, we remained close, and she is still my closest friend in the city. When I graduated, she suggested that I come stay with her, as her apartment had enough rooms. Accepting her offer turned out to be the best decision, as it meant we saw each other almost daily, even if our busy schedules often limited our time together to brief, chaotic mornings and late-night debriefs. That was until she met her boyfriend, Alex, and my own demanding final year of residency began.
I ended up agreeing to the night out with Sarah, or 'Our Wild Night' as she calls it. We spent half the day watching a movie and catching up. I then went to my room to catch some more sleep before we left; that's what hours of ER calls do to you. I should have chosen to be a pediatrician instead.
I woke up to a call, which I tried to ignore, but it kept on ringing. Finally, I snatched up my phone, didn't check the flashing caller name, and answered with a grumpy voice, 'What?'"
" 'Is that how you now address your own mother?' mom asked.
'Sorry, Mom, I was sleeping and did not see that it was you calling,' I answered, sitting up to lean on the headboard.
'I was worried about you, my baby. You usually call me in the morning. Please take care of yourself and eat something decent,' mom answered with a voice full of concern.
'I'm fine, really, Mama. Sarah and I are going out; I have to get ready. Love you, will call you tomorrow, I promise,' she answered.
Alright, but do call me. Have fun with Sarah, darling. Goodbye now,' she said, hanging up the phone.
My mother and I share a perfect mother-daughter relationship. It's just the two of us. My father passed away from cancer when I was young. This experience was one of the things that inspired me to become a doctor because I want to save lives. Although I grew up in the small town of Marfa, Texas, I have always had big dreams. That ambition motivated me to work tirelessly in school and earn a scholarship to study medicine here in New York. Now, as a resident, I am just one step away from achieving my dream of going back home to open my own practice. "Dr Emily Brown Practice" that does have a nice ring to it.
The time to go was nearing. Sarah knocked and entered, cheerful as always, holding three dresses. They looked less like garments and more like mere strips of cloth, barely enough to cover anything.
"Don't give me that look," she commented, noticing the way I was staring at her and the dresses.
"There is no way in hell I am going to wear any of those dresses," I replied, shaking my head in disbelief.
"I am going to freshen up, get busy, and then choose one dress. Or, if you don't, I'll come and choose for you myself," she said, tossing the dresses onto my bed before leaving.
I headed to the bathroom and prepared a bubble bath. After my bath, I began to apply my makeup. I usually keep my makeup light, and today was no different.
I decided to try on the dresses. The first was a black dress with a high slit that was incredibly revealing—the kind of dress you wear without any underwear. The second was also black but was simply too short for my taste. Without even checking the third, I decided to try on the first one. Man, I have to say I looked so hot I could burn the whole of New York right now! Everything complemented everything else perfectly. To finish the look, I decided on the red Paciotti dagger heels.
When I stepped out of my room, Sarah was waiting, deep in a phone call. She immediately dropped the call and gave me a look of pure admiration.
"You cleaned up nicely," she said, still looking completely in awe.
"Let the night begin!" we shouted in unison as we stepped outside.
