Chapter 4 A Mind Reading Power?

Jennifer pulled her son's hand out of the headmaster's office. After hearing the headmaster's decision that her son was suspended, she would be resting at home for a week, as would Jason.

However, because Jason's injuries were more severe, Jennifer had to pay for his medical expenses and Alex was given a first warning. Even on his first day of school! Imagine that!

Jennifer rubbed her forehead, which was starting to ache.

She finally decided to call a taxi.

Before going to Alex's school, she took the rental car to be repaired at the garage.

Jennifer stopped one of the taxis passing in front of Alex's school.

Alex looked at her with a frown. Alex's face resembled hers, both his nose, eyebrows, and ears, but not his hair colour, which was more brown, while Jennifer's hair was golden brown, and his lips, which were slightly thicker on the bottom but seemed soft, and his sharp, grey-green eyes.

Sometimes it made Jennifer a little uneasy when she looked into her son's sharp eyes, she didn't know why... Jennifer always felt as if she was lost for a moment in her son's deep gaze...

Jennifer felt like she had known those eyes for years... but when and where, she couldn't remember!

Alex's face seemed to be a combination of hers and his biological father's, whom even Jennifer did not know! Because they had undergone insemination to conceive Alex.

At least that was what Jennifer knew from her parents, and she believed it.

"Mum? Why are we taking a taxi? Where's your car, Mum?" Alex asked cautiously as a taxi approached.

"Get in first! Hm... the car is in the garage being repaired!" exclaimed Jennifer.

They got in, Alex's curiosity couldn't be contained, he asked again when they were inside the taxi.

"The garage? Being repaired? Why? Wasn't it fine this morning?" asked Alex again curiously.

"Hmm... the ride was a bit uncomfortable earlier, so it's better to get it repaired for a smoother ride. Never mind, don't worry about it! Let's just go home, okay?" Jennifer exclaimed as she closed the taxi door before speaking to the driver.

"Sir! To Rosewood Avenue!" Jennifer said.

"Yes, ma'am!" exclaimed the taxi driver as the car began to drive slowly.

Actually, the flat Jennifer was currently staying in wasn't too far from Alex's school; it was probably about a 10-15 minute drive by car since Alex attended Larchmont Charter School.

That was also one of the reasons Jennifer chose the flat there, of course, besides the affordable price.

‘Luckily, I rented an apartment there because it was relatively cheap, even though it was a bit far from the office! But now... I don't even have that job anymore! Alex mustn't find out that I just lost my job because of that damn dream! It looks like we'll have to start saving money from now on, because I also have to pay for the damage to the luxury car I crashed into earlier! Not to mention Jason's medical expenses! Ah, what a disaster! I have to find a job as soon as possible! It looks like when I get home, I'll have to start looking for job vacancies right away! Well... cheer up! After all, Alex still has to go to school and I need a lot of money for that, not to mention our living expenses here!' Jennifer said to herself. Jennifer's mind was full of thoughts about her and her son Alex's future.

Alex turned to his mother, "Mum? What happened? Did you have an accident earlier, Mum? Are you okay, Mum?"

Alex busily checked his mother's condition, looking at and holding her hands and other parts of her body.

Jennifer frowned, "Accident? Who said I had an accident? How did you know, son?"

Alex blurted out, “Didn’t you just say so, Mum? You had a terrible day, lost your job, crashed into a luxury car and had to pay for the damage, and I added to it by… beating Jason to a pulp! But really, Mum, I didn’t start it! They started it, Jason… said I don’t have a father… because… my mother is a slut! So I don’t even know who my father is! I can’t accept them calling you naughty, Mum! You’re the best and most honourable mother I’ve ever known! You’re not… a naughty woman! Right, Mum? I… have a father, don’t I, Mum? So… so… I taught him a lesson! Forgive me, Mum… I’ve disappointed you and caused you trouble!”

Alex bowed his head, trying to hold back his tears, not daring to look his mother in the eye.

Jennifer sighed heavily, her hands touching her son's cheeks so he would look at her. Alex's eyes began to redden and there were a few tears in them. Jennifer's heart felt torn seeing Alex like this.

“Who said that? That naughty boy? Of course you have a father! Your father… nevermind, we’ll talk about it later! But why didn’t you say anything earlier in front of the headmaster’s office?! I would have taught him a lesson! His parents never taught him to be polite to others, did they?” Jennifer was now even more emotional upon hearing the real reason her son had fought.

"Heheh... Mum... calm down... I knew you would react like this, that's why I didn't say anything earlier! Because you would definitely lose control like you are now!" said Alex again with a slight smile, even though he was a little disappointed that his mother didn't tell him who his father really was, but he didn't want to make his mother even more upset. Alex also knew that Jennifer would never let anyone belittle or insult Alex.

"You're right! Maybe the problem will be longer than it is now... but anyway... but wait... how did you know I was having a bad day today? I didn't say anything earlier!" Jennifer looked at her son suspiciously.

Alex looked at his mother intently, and now they were staring at each other. ‘Because you said it in your mind, Mum!’

Jennifer felt like she heard Alex speaking to her, but without a sound? And why could she hear him? Were they communicating through their minds? Some kind of telepathy?

As Jennifer was confused, she saw her son nodding silently but staring intently at her, ‘You’re right, Mum, I can hear it! And you can hear me too, right, Mum?’

“Do you mean you can read my thoughts and I can read yours too?” Jennifer exclaimed in surprise, speaking aloud without realising it.

“You’re right, Mum!” Alex whispered softly.

“WHAT?!!”

Jennifer unconsciously shouted loudly as she reflexively covered Alex's mouth.

At that moment, the taxi driver suddenly slammed on the brakes and the car came to a halt.

Jennifer was thrown forward into the front seat, but luckily she was quick to hug her child and hold her and Alex with one hand so that the impact wasn't too hard on her head.

"Citttt!!!!"

"What happened? Sir, why did you stop suddenly?" Jennifer exclaimed, a little annoyed. 'Did he hear our conversation just now?'

"Sorry, ma'am... I... there... in front... a luxury car is blocking the way!" said the driver anxiously.

"A luxury car? Who?" Jennifer breathed a sigh of relief but was curious and leaned her head forward.

In front of the taxi, she saw a tall, well-built man, about 180 cm tall, with a slightly stiff, unsmiling face and a thick mustache, getting out of a luxury car that was blocking the taxi Jennifer was riding in, walking slowly towards her taxi.

“Excuse me… Mrs Jenny. Could you step out for a moment? It seems you need to come with me!” he said, bowing politely while tapping on Jennifer’s car window.

“What? Who is he? It seems…”
