Chapter 390
“Marry you? Hmm, let me think about it.” Victor's eyes shone in a way that told me he was teasing. “I mean, marriage is a big commitment. I need to be sure.”
“Let you think about it!” I huffed and started to walk away.
Victor chuckled and grabbed my arm. He pulled me close and dropped to his knees.
Then he took my left hand and in his as he looked up into my eyes. “Daisy Alberta Wilson, I love you with all my heart and soul. Will you do me the honor of becoming my wife?”
“Yes!” I cried, just as excited as I was the first time he proposed. “Becoming your wife would make me the happiest person alive.”
Victor stood. He picked me up and twirled me around. “Nope, it would make you the second happiest. I’d be the first.”
He set me on my feet and kissed me deeply and thoroughly before asking, “When?”
“Two months,” I replied. “I’ll have my degree soon, and two months will give me plenty of time to plan the wedding I’ve always wanted.”
“Two months sound great,” Victor agreed. “What do you need me to do?”
“Show up at the old chapel at The Association on our wedding day with a best man,” I replied.
Victor nodded. “I can do that. Where do you want to have the reception?”
“I want a small private wedding ceremony but a big reception,” I answered. “Maybe outside somewhere, and I want to invite everyone we know, no matter if they are Alphas, Betas, or Omegas.”
“That works for me.” Victor took my hand, and we began to walk around the side of the mansion. “I’ve been thinking about selling my apartment. We both prefer to live outside of the city.”
“Do you want to stay here?” I liked living on Alex’s estate, but it sometimes felt like we were intruding on him and Cassidy. It was time Victor and I moved on.
“I was thinking we should buy an estate of our own,” Victor replied. “It should have a large mansion and enough land for us to go for runs.”
“That sounds wonderful!” I stopped walking to embrace him. “Let’s do it.”
“I’ll hire a real estate agent tomorrow,” Victor said. “I’ll tell them to put a rush on it so we can have our reception on our own property.”
“Planning our wedding is going to be so much fun,” I said. “Do you have any requests?”
Victor thought for a moment. “My mom only has me. Do you think you could let her help you? It would mean a lot to her if you asked her for advice about some of the plans.”
“Sure,” I agreed. “Lana has exquisite taste. I’ll call her after dinner.”
We strolled inside to get ready for dinner.
After a shower, I freshened my hair and makeup before dressing in one of my mother’s cocktail dresses.
It was fancier than I usually dress for a family dinner at Alex’s mansion, but I felt like celebrating.
Victor must have felt the same way. He was wearing one of his best suits, and when we went downstairs, Benson was at the door accepting a delivery in Victor’s name.
“I’d like it to be served with dinner,” Victor told Benson.
Benson looked at the labels on the bottles and smiled. “Yes, Mr. Klein. I’ll see to it myself.”
We went to the living room and found Alex and Cassidy watching the early news.
“Ah, there you two are,” Alex said. “Benson said dinner will be served in a few minutes.”
“You both look awfully nice tonight,” Cassidy said. “Is it a special occasion?”
“Yes,” I replied. “We’ll tell you at dinner.”
“Then let’s get to the dining room,” Alex suggested. He offered Cassidy his arm, and they strolled from the room.
Victor and I followed.
We waited until everyone was seated, and Benson brought the bottles of champagne to the table.
Alex picked up a bottle and whistled as he read the label. “Wow, Dom Perignon ‘93! This must be an important announcement.”
Benson poured the champagne, and Victor raised his glass. “To Daisy, my beautiful fated mate who has agreed to be my wife in two months.”
We all drank to Victor’s toast.
“I’m glad you’ve set the date,” Alex said after a long sip of the champagne. “It’s time the two of you settled down. Of course, you can have it here. The ballroom looks great when it’s decorated for a wedding.”
“You could wear your mother’s dress,” Cassidy suggested. “The whole wedding could have a vintage theme.”
“I’ll think about it,” I said.
But I knew Cassidy’s suggestion wasn’t what I wanted. And I really wanted to have the reception at Victor’s and my new estate. It would be an excellent way to start our life together.
“I asked Benson to plan a formal dinner for your graduation,” Alex said. “It’ll be family and your friends.”
“That sounds nice,” I agreed and sipped the excellent champagne between bites of steak.
“I'm not surprised to see you graduate so early,” Cassidy said. “You were always the best student in my classes.”
“I have more work to do before I can get my license to practice law,” I reminded her.
“It won’t take you that long to pass the exams,” Cassidy insisted.
“I am proud of you, honey,” Alex said. “Let me know what you want for a graduation present.”
When dinner was over, I went upstairs to make some calls. Sitting on the couch in my library, I called Amy.
“Two months sounds good,” she said. “I should be able to lose all the baby weight by then.”
“We can wait to get your gown fitted at the last minute,” I said. “I can’t wait to tell you everything I have in mind for the wedding.”
“I hope it’s going to be child-friendly,” Amy said.
“Um, yeah. Sure,” I said, but I wasn’t sure what that meant. “Alex is having a formal dinner for my graduation. You and Justin are invited.”
“Can I bring Brendre to your party?” she asked.
“I guess so,” I responded. “I’ll ask Benson to set up a playpen near your seat.”
“That would be fabulous,” Amy said. “I gotta go. She’s crying for her bedtime feeding.”
“I’ll call you after classes tomorrow,” I said. “Kiss the little sweetie goodnight for me.”
I decided to wait to call Lana. I didn’t want to cloud my mind with more suggestions for my wedding until I passed my finals this week.
I aced my final tests and was close to getting my license to practice law. After receiving my diploma in a small ceremony with a handful of other students who were also graduating early, I was ready to attend the dinner Alex was hosting to celebrate.
Wearing the eggshell white silk dress I wore to the graduation ceremony, I walked into Alex’s formal dining room on Victor’s arm while the roomful of family and friends applauded.
I blushed and smiled as I took my seat between Alex and Victor.
After an incredible meal, there were toasts and good wishes. I then mingled with the guests so nobody would feel left out.
I was pleased to see William and Penny and stopped to talk.
“Congrats, Daisy,” William said.
“And we heard you and Victor set a date,” Penny added. “Did you book a venue yet?”
“No,” I replied. “I’m still making plans.”
“You could have your wedding at the lake,” William offered. “You could do it on the dock.”
“You could wear shorts and carry wildflowers,” Penny added.
“I’ll think about it,” I said and moved on.
Next, I ran into Lana and Harry.
“Daisy, dear,” Lana said. “Harry and I were happy to hear you and Victor finally set a date.”
I smiled at my future in-laws. “I’m happy about it, too.”
“Victor said you could use some help planning the wedding and reception,” Lana gushed. “We must sit down together and get things rolling.”
“Sure,” I agreed. “I’ll stop by tomorrow afternoon if you’re free.”
“I’ll make myself free,” Lana said. “Oh, I hope it’s not too late to book Pierre’s to cater the reception.”
Pierre’s is the premier caterer for Alphas. They served fancy food for events that were far from what I had in mind for my reception.
“I don’t know,” I said. “Victor and I want a large outdoor reception. I don’t think Pierre’s would work.”
“An outdoor reception? Nonsense!” Lana declared. “You must have it somewhere formal. Your reception should be held at Wisteria Terrace.”
Wisteria Terrace, that stuffy old country club? No way! Why was everyone trying to plan my wedding?
“I know I could pull some strings and reserve your date there,” Lana said.
“No!” I snapped. “Everyone needs to stop pushing me.”
Frustrated and ashamed of snapping at Lana, I ran from the room in tears.
