Chapter 326
Victor’s POV
I watched Daisy walk out my office door in disbelief.
She came there to tell me she was quitting school to work with the handsome hunk journalist and became angry because I hired a new executive assistant.
Didn’t Daisy realize how much I was responsible for in our world? I had to have someone like Sarah keep my days and my desk organized.
Yet, the hurt in Daisy’s eyes when she saw Sarah made me feel guilty. But why? I had nothing to feel guilty about. She was the one quitting a good school because super reporter Shane Ross wanted her to quit and work with him.
I pounded my fist on the desk and stood. She promised we would talk about it, and we were going to do just that.
Following her from my office, I hurried to catch up with her in the hallway.
“Daisy, wait,” I called. “We need to talk.”
“There’s nothing to talk about,” she insisted and kept walking.
I heard the hurt in her voice and knew she was using anger to hide her pain. My beautiful fiancée had a lot of pride.
And she possessed a lot of honor. Something made her come here to announce she was quitting college instead of talking about it with me.
Had Shane said it done something to undermine my relationship with Daisy? It was apparent he was attracted to her at dinner.
Who wouldn’t be attracted to her? Daisy is a gorgeous woman.
“Daisy, whatever you have decided to do is fine with me, but can we please sit down and talk for a few minutes?”
I lightly grabbed her arm and spun her around to face me. “We can talk in the executive lounge.” I wiped away a tear from her soft cheek. “Please, sweetheart.”
Daisy nodded as two more tears escaped her spectacular green eyes.
I pulled her into my arms and kissed the top of her head before taking her into my private lounge.
After settling Daisy on the sofa, I poured us cups of rich, fragrant coffee and sat beside her.
“I’m sorry if I reacted badly to your news,” I said. “I was wrong, but I was surprised you decided without me. Did Shane influence you?”
“Of course not.” She shook her head and bit her lip. “He helped me.” I knew then that something terrible happened that made Daisy react this way.
“What do you mean by that?” I took her hand.
How did he help her? If Shane Ross were trying to steal my fated mate, I would be talking with him next.
“He helped me fight off two jocks who were trying to intimidate me into leaving Frampton U.” Daisy pulled away from me. “You have a lot of nerve being jealous after hiring another hottie for your office.”
“Sarah?” Daisy was jealous again. “Sweetheart, I don’t understand how a woman who looks like you can become jealous so easily. Besides the fact that I love you dearly, Chloe and Sarah can’t hold a candle to you.”
Daisy wiped away more tears.
“Honey, Sarah is married, and her husband works for me, too,” I explained. “Michael Diehl remained loyal throughout the ordeal with the faction. I promoted him to the chief security guard of the administrative wing of the complex.”
“Really?” Daisy blushed, becomingly. “She’s married.”
“She’s married to her fated mate,” I added. “They have two young children.”
“Oh, Victor. I’m sorry,” she said. “Why am I getting jealous when I know you love me?”
“Don’t feel bad, my love.” I pulled her closer. “Despite having no reason, I have the same problem with you and Shane.”
We held each other for a long moment before I kissed her soft lips. Our spiritual and emotional connection reminded us of how much we loved each other.
“Sometimes I feel like we are drifting apart,” Daisy confessed as she clung to me. “We both have busy lives, but we can’t let these petty jealousies split us apart.”
“We need to spend more quality time together,” I declared. “The Association and your career are important, but so are we.”
Daisy turned to face me. She stroked my cheek with her fingers before placing a kiss on my lips.
“I would love to spend more time with you,” she said. “But we must also remember that we are a committed couple, fated mates, who will be married before much longer.”
“Before much longer,” I repeated. “Does that mean you want to set a date?” How I wanted this exquisite female to officially be my mate. I would marry her tomorrow.
“Yes,” she replied and flashed me a huge smile that melted my heart. “After things calm down enough that I can think.”
“We’ll go away together,” I promised. “I’ll take you anywhere you want to go.”
“Let’s plan a weekend trip as soon as possible,” she decided. “I’d love to visit some art galleries, and I’ve never been to an amusement park.” She kissed me again. “Have you ever been on a roller coaster?”
I had to laugh at the mischievous look in her eyes. “Yes, my parents took me to Funland Adventure Park when I was twelve. The roller coaster was terrifying and fun. You’ll like it, my beautiful daredevil.”
“Can we go this weekend?” she asked as she pressed her incredible body against mine.
“Yes,” I agreed. “I can’t wait to be alone with you and enjoy ourselves for a change. I should have thought of us doing fun things together before this.”
“I didn’t think of it either,” Daisy pointed out. “We must strive to make our lives more about us and our relationship. It’s more important than anything else.”
“I agree, my love,” I said.
We held each other again, simply enjoying being close.
“I’ll tell you what happened today,” she said. “But you must promise to listen to everything and try to understand.”
“I promise,” I said before kissing her sweet lips once more.
Daisy explained how her new Alpha contact was expelled from college, and everyone treated her like an enemy.
“It was ten times worse than high school when I was a nerdy Beta,” she said with tears in her eyes. “And my professors did everything they could to make me quit. It was horrible.”
She was trembling, so I closed my arms around her again. “I can sense more than that happened today. Tell me about it, sweetheart. Talking about it may help you feel better.”
“I don’t have to tell you. I can show you.” Daisy pulled her phone from her pocket. “As soon as I knew what was happening, I began recording video.”
“Let me watch,” I requested. “I want to know what happened.”
Daisy cued up the video and handed me her phone.
What happened to my beloved was worse than I thought. I wanted to go to Frampton U and hunt the two Alpha jocks and rip them to pieces.
I struggled not to crush Daisy’s phone in my hand. “How dare they threaten you. They must pay for their actions.”
“Victor, you promised.” Daisy tried to take the phone from my grip.
“They better not have hit you,” I growled. “Are you injured?” I wanted to taste their blood. How dare they?
I was proud of her when Daisy kicked one jock and knocked him to the ground. But my anger flared higher when I saw the other push her so hard she landed on her side.
“Nooo!” I howled when he approached Daisy as she lay on the ground and raised his foot to kick her. “I’ll kill him! Are you injured?”
Daisy shook her head. “No, watch the screen. I had help.”
“Who is that?” I asked when I heard the male voice and saw legs in blue jeans.
“I forgot Shane was meeting me on campus after my classes.” Daisy bit her lip again.
I watched the rest of the video, pleased to see Daisy take out one of her attacker’s knees.
When I watched Shane deliver a blow to the other attacker's face, I wished it had been me hitting the lowlife. However, I wouldn’t have been able to stop at one punch.
After the video was over, I sat silently, trying to get a grip on my emotions.
After a few minutes, I felt Daisy touch my arm. “Please, say something, Victor,” she whispered.
“I agree with you about quitting Frampton University,” I said. “You aren’t safe there. But what happened to you is inexcusable, and I can’t let it go.”
Daisy looked at me with wide eyes. “What are you going to do?”
“Send me a copy of that video,” I responded. “I must make sure those two males pay for what they did to you.”
