Chapter 262
The scent of the red wolves was undeniably coming from Victor’s apartment. But were they still in there? We held our breath and listened.
My eyes widened at the distinct sound of footsteps approaching the front door.
Instinctively, I backed up a few steps and flattened against the wall. I motioned for Victor to do the same.
He shook his head. Someone had broken into his private space. He was angry and wouldn’t hide from them.
I listen to the footsteps, getting closer to where Victor stood. He did too. He flung the door open, hitting an intruder with the hard oak door.
“Ouch, son of a …” Jayden said. “Victor, it’s you. You hit me on the head with the door.”
“Sorry, I thought you were an intruder,” Victor explained. “My door was open, and I could smell the same wolves that were at Gray’s restaurant.”
“I know. That’s why I’m in your apartment,” Jayden said. “I arrived a few minutes ago. I smelled the strange wolves, and the door was open. So I was checking it out.”
“Are they still here?” Victor asked.
“I’ve only had a chance to check the living room,” Jayden replied.
Victor motioned me inside and closed and locked the door. “Stay close to me while we check the rest of the apartment, sweetheart. If they are here, shift immediately. You’ll be less vulnerable.”
I agreed even though I was shaking. But one look at the living room and I grew as angry as Victor. The room was torn apart. The furniture was ripped open, the TV was smashed, and my whiteboard was in three jagged pieces.
But after thoroughly searching the apartment, we knew the intruders were gone. Fortunately, they had not vandalized the rest of the apartment.
“Who is your first pick as to the identities of these red wolves,” Jayden asked me as we began to clean up the mess.
“Pat Archer is on the top of my list,” I replied. “Clarissa Lang Farver is a strong suspect, too. I’ve seen her temper and can imagine her using violence.”
“Would Pat Archer be working with an ex-fiancée of Andy’s?” Victor asked. “It’s more likely she’d be in cahoots with her daughter, Amanda.”
Jayden picked up the broken TV. “We need to see who has an alibi for last night.” He paused with the shattered TV in his hands. “Did Amy say if the wolves were female? If they used Alpha voice, she would easily tell by the pitch.”
“She didn’t say,” I replied. “I’ll ask her tomorrow. She was very upset about everything that happened today.”
Victor shook his head sadly. “Having your car stolen and sabotaged, followed by a brutal attack, would be more than most people could deal with in one day.”
“We’ve got to catch the intruders,” I said. “They must pay for their crimes.”
The room went silent as we tried to think of new ideas to accomplish that goal.
“Why can’t we put trackers on their cars?” I asked. “If they can do it, so can we.”
“It’s an idea,” Jayden looked at Victor.
“Do it,” Victor said. “Do anything to end this nightmare as quickly as possible.”
After Jayden left, I looked through Victor’s fridge and cupboards for ingredients to make dinner. I was amazed to find the fixings for a good meal.
“Victor, please check on Amy and Mr. Gray,” I requested as I started cooking.
Victor called Jasper, and I overheard him say Mr. Gray was awake and that he insisted Amy go home with her bodyguard and get some sleep.
“Elliot Gray is going to need time to heal,” Victor said after he hung up. “I’m going to offer him, Amy, and Justin the beach house until we catch the red wolves.”
“That’s a great idea.” I kissed Victor’s cheek. “You’re so sweet. No one would think of looking for them at the beach.”
“It would be no problem for me. Cathy and Arthur are back on their island,” Victor pointed out. “So the beach house is sitting empty. A cleaning team comes in weekly to prepare it in case it’s needed.”
“What about the restaurant?” I asked. “Do you think Mr. Gray would be willing to close it for a while?”
“Elliot’s doctors said he won’t be able to work for six weeks,” Victor said. “He may as well close it.”
“Maybe his sous chef and assistants will be able to take over until he heals,” I pondered. “In any case, we need to convince the Grays they would be safer away from Denhurst.”
We sat down to eat dinner while I thought of a way to convince the Grays to leave the city.
Victor enjoyed the steak, potatoes, and salad. After we were satisfied, we cleaned up the kitchen and went to bed.
After I put on a plain cotton nightgown, Victor pulled me close to him on the bed. “That tempting body of yours will need to wait till tomorrow,” he said. “Unless.”
I flipped onto my side, facing him. “Unless, what?”
He took off his pajama pants and moved us to the very center of the big bed before laying on his back.
“Turn around and lie on top of me face down,” he said. I could tell by the look in his eyes that he had a new sensual delight in mind.
I did as he asked, even though I felt a little awkward. But he grasped my hips and pulled my womanhood closer to his mouth.
The second his warm tongue touched my love button, I forgot about anything except giving and receiving pleasure.
I took his manhood into my mouth and moved my head in leisurely up and down strokes, delighting in his low moans of enjoyment. I could sense his desire growing as we loved each other with our mouths.
Victor sensed I was close to my climax and began to suck on my little jewel. The sensation was intense. It made the tension in my body tighten without providing release.
I moaned and increased the tempo of my efforts to pleasure him. On each upstroke, I ran my tongue around the head of his rod while my fingers massaged his pouch.
“Daisy,” he moaned. “Yes, my love.” His tongue resumed its work on my woman’s jewel, and my passion rose higher than his.
One of his hands wandered to my breast, and he rolled my nipple between his fingers.
That was my undoing. My loins burst into spasms of pleasure. I sucked hard on his manhood while waves of ecstasy washed over me.
Victor called my name again before he pulled himself from my mouth a split second before his creamy love juices spurted from his rod.
We lay in a heap for a moment before I got up and went to the bathroom for a towel. I wiped away the proof of our passion, and we lay down in each other’s arms.
“That was incredible,” I whispered. “I never imagined people could give each other such pleasure.”
“You excel at everything you try to do,” Victor said. “I’m lucky to have you as my mate.”
I kissed his broad chest. “I knew my life would get better the day you took me from my adoptive parents’ house, but I never thought I’d be this happy.”
“You are more than I deserve,” he said, pulling me closer.
I yawned into my hand.
“It’s time to close your eyes,” Victor said. “Don’t worry about anything. We are well protected.”
I knew Victor had plenty of tricks up his sleeve, like the tracker on Amy’s car. I had no doubt there was one planted on my car, too. Plus, this apartment must have the latest technology protecting it.
“We both need sleep,” I agreed as I snuggled against his hard body.
“Sleep well. I love you, Daisy,” Victor murmured as he fell asleep.
“And I love you,” I said and let myself doze off.
We slept peacefully for several hours in that comfortable bed, unworried by recent events.
But then, an ear-splitting sound woke us from a deep sleep. Victor leaped from the bed as I bolted upright.
“What is that?” I yelled over the din.
Victor went to a control panel on the bedroom wall, and after he pressed a few buttons, silence fell over the apartment.
“That was the motion sensor alarm in the garage,” he said. “The intruders must have returned.
