Chapter 181

Victors POV

I watched Daisy wring her hands as she stood at the bottom of the staircase. What had happened to make her this nervous at a miniature golf course?

Alex had just finished going over recent Alpha Association business with me, and I was pleased to see Daisy before I left to go home.

It has been fantastic how she stayed by my side during the crises with my mother. Daisy is a special girl, and I was lucky to have her in my life.

I realized I was staring at her. But it was hard not to look at her whenever she was in a room with me. She had bloomed into a spectacularly beautiful young woman. Even dressed in her jeans, she looked fresh and gorgeous.

I moved closer to her. “What did you want to ask me, Daisy? You can talk to me about anything.”

She blushed as she spoke. “Um …well, I was wondering if kissing feels different with somebody else?”

“What do you mean?” I asked. I couldn’t grasp what she was asking. Kissing takes two people.

She blushed a deeper shade of red. “Is it normal for it to feel d…different when you kiss somebody and then kiss somebody else? Is it better with some people?”

My mind put together her meaning, and a flash of anger shot through me.

She just returned from a date with William. Now she wanted to know if different people kissed the same and if it felt better with some people over others.

She and William had been kissing!

I turned away from her and pretended to cough for a moment to give myself a chance to compose myself.

What I was feeling couldn’t be jealousy. I had been trying to set her up with William ever since our agreement began because he was who she wanted. I’ve known this since shortly after we met.

So, why did the thought of her in his arms while he kissed her, the way I kissed her, make me feel this mix of anger and … yes, it was jealousy.

It must be a joke!

After I realized that “true love” did exist in this world, the first thing I found wasn’t mutual love, but my own pathetic jealousy.

I forced a huge wolfish grin onto my face. “Kissing has been different with every woman I have had the pleasure of kissing. Some kiss better than others. I imagine it would be the same for a woman kissing different men.”

Daisy stood still, absorbing what I said.

“I take it you finally allowed poor William to kiss you tonight?” I had to know if my suspicions were correct.

She nodded, and I clenched my fists.

“I’m happy for you,” I said, holding tightly to my anger. “But I’m late meeting a friend.”

I gave her a wink and hurried out the door before she could say another word.

I was jealous, but I wouldn’t allow myself to be a pathetic, broken-hearted jerk over one young girl.

As I climbed into my car, I knew I wanted a run. But I decided a fast drive around the hills would have to do instead.

“You pushed them together, and now you’re angry about it?” Adam said.

“She always wanted William,” I reminded him. “And we had a deal. I held up my end. She has William now.”

“Maybe she didn’t like his kiss as much as yours,” Adam said. “Don’t give up on Daisy yet.”

“No! Stop this, Adam,” I insisted. “Daisy has moved on with William, and I must move on too.”

“With whom?” Adam inquired.

“Why, Adam, there is an entire city full of females nearby, remember? Tonight, I will start being myself again. Daisy’s gallant fiancé is gone as of this moment.”

I parked outside the first bar I came across and went inside. After ordering a drink, I was soon surrounded by adoring women.

I woke up a few mornings later with a headache. Coffee and a cool shower cleared the cobwebs from my mind, and I went to my office.

My mother was doing well, and I was taking over for Alex at the association on Tuesday. My life was back on track after being derailed by all the time I spent with Daisy.

I missed her, but I refused to allow myself to think about her constantly. That chapter of my life would soon be over.

My engagement to Daisy was not officially dissolved yet, but word had gotten out that I had returned to the playboy life of partying and gorgeous women.

My cell was full of messages from beautiful women who heard I was back into the club scene, looking for playmates.

I hadn’t brought anyone home for the night yet, but I hoped to remedy that tonight with Sheena, a wealthy divorcee who was an ex-model.

She would be the perfect choice for me to break my fast, so to speak. And I would not allow thoughts of Daisy to cause me to drink so much that another night would be ruined.

I refused to miss and need her.

My car had been left at two different bars since Daisy’s kissing question, and I had to take a cab home.

I turned down the offers of a ride from several ladies because I didn’t like to be with a woman while I was severely intoxicated. I preferred to be in control of myself and the situation.

Thinking of Sheena’s sophisticated beauty, I forced Daisy from my mind and filled it with work. But thoughts of her came pouring back when I received a text from her in the afternoon.

“Victor, please don’t forget about the meeting with my board of directors on Monday. I need you to be there with me. Thanks, Daisy.”

What should I do? Sitting with my head in my hands, I decided it was Monday’s problem, and this was Friday. I would enjoy my weekend and worry about it later.

I sent Daisy a short, vague message before concentrating on work again. I wanted to finish so I could leave early. After last night’s drinking session, I needed a nap and a shower before meeting Sheena at Moonglow.

I settled into my work, but I was caught up in a snag that kept me at my office later than I expected.

After racing home, I showered, shaved, and changed into my most expensive suit before leaving for my date.

I arrived at Moonglow before Sheena, but the host immediately led me to my reserved table. After tipping him generously, I was brought a magnum of my favorite champagne on ice and two glasses.

As I waited for Sheena, women acted like moths to my flame, and several beautiful women surrounded me. Many I knew from before Daisy.

They weren’t shy and began competing for my attention. By the time Sheena arrived, I had my arms around two of their waists while a third rubbed my shoulders from behind.

Sheena looked amused as she took in the scene around me. She sat across the table from me and allowed a waiter to pour her a glass of champagne.

Sheena sipped her champagne and gave the others a smug smile. She was incredible-looking, and she knew it.

Her behavior encouraged one of the women to try harder to gain my attention, and I soon had a petite, buxom blonde on my lap.

The women were being too bold for my tastes, but it was a big ego boost after finding out Daisy still preferred William.

Even though Daisy responded passionately to my kiss, she probably enjoyed his kiss better. That had to be why she asked me if people kiss differently.

The thought of another male touching her made me drink the rest of my champagne in one gulp.

Sheena refilled my glass, which made the buxom blonde on my lap snuggle closer under my arm.

A few minutes later, I was about to empty the second glass of champagne when I saw someone watching me from a few feet away.

I froze when I realized it was Alex. What was he doing here?

He shook his head and said, “How could you do this to her.” Then he turned and walked out the front entrance.

My head spun from the shock of being discovered in such a compromising position by a man I respected so much.

Daisy wouldn’t care if she heard I was with other women. She had who she really wanted now, but I didn’t want to lose Alex’s friendship and respect.

“Excuse me.” I dumped the woman from my lap and walked out the door.

I saw Alex’s limousine driving away, so I took out my phone and dialed his number. I had to talk to him and try to explain myself.

It rang twice before my call was rejected. Alex didn’t want to speak to me.

The women called my name from Moonglow’s doorway, but I no longer felt like partying.

I climbed into my car and redialed Alex’s number.
