Chapter 171
Amy watched my speech on the ten o’clock news.
She texted me with a single heart emoji and a short message. “Fantastic speech. You’re going in the right direction.”
I reread the text many times and thought about the things she said to me and how I had changed.
Amy had been right about the new me. I became caught up in my Alpha life and forgot who I was and where I came from.
But now, I was determined to combine the new me with the old me to create an unstoppable force to help make the world a better place for everyone.
Over the following week, my goal to become a person I respected became the most important thing in my life.
Instead of thinking of ways to solely make a profit, I began looking for solutions to problems plaguing the Beta and Omega population.
They had more problems than bullying. They were taken advantage of and kept under the control of Alphas by the lack of education, information, and opportunities.
And when someone believed they would only have misery and hard work in their life, it became a self-fulfilling prophecy. They didn’t see any hope for a better life, and therefore, they stopped trying.
I needed to provide them with those four elements: hope, education, information, and opportunities.
But how?
I began with the idea that I had teased Victor with earlier in the month. It would provide low-cost housing in good neighborhoods with excellent schools and community resources.
I also had an idea for job training in building construction that would lower the cost of construction and give participants valuable skills for better-paying jobs.
“The same could be done in other career areas,” I told myself. Betas and Omegas could be given free training for good-paying jobs that would better their lives and the city.
There were plenty of essential jobs that required skills best learned on the job.
The city also needed a community college that would supply the required education and the option to transfer to a four-year university.
From advanced degrees to skilled labor, the world needs all types of workers to provide what everyone needs. Everyone’s skills had value.
I had a massive project in mind to go along with the housing project.
A new hospital was needed closer to the Beta sector of the city. The closest hospital to Amy’s home was twenty to forty minutes away, depending on traffic.
During an emergency, this was unacceptable.
Another hospital, if properly run, could turn a profit while providing employment for various jobs, from doctors and nurses to environmental services and food services.
The area around the hospital would also benefit from increased traffic and sales to their businesses.
When Victor arrived at my office Monday afternoon, I ran my ideas past him.
I was disappointed when he seemed skeptical.
“Daisy, your speech was great, and I promise you we will brainstorm ideas to help the Beta and Omega population as soon as I become the leader of the association.”
He could tell I was displeased by my expression. “You’re still thinking like a wealthy Alpha.”
“Daisy, don’t get angry and think I don’t care,” he said. “I’m unsure about a whole business plan oriented towards helping Betas.”
He put his hand on mine. “I have a board of directors I must answer to, just like you do,” he continued. “You will need well-researched and detailed reports to get them to agree with your plans.”
I nodded. “I will do whatever it takes to convince you and everyone on the board of directors that my plans are profitable for all involved. This company will make money from my ideas.”
Victor’s eyes widened with surprise. “You’ll need to submit a full plan with supporting data that proves your plan is as profitable as the previous ones.”
“I know. If my board of directors approves my plan, will you submit a similar proposal to your board of directors? My plans would be more effective on a larger scale.”
“Daisy, your board of directors won’t approve your plan unless they are sure of it and you,” Victor reminded me. “Are you setting too high of a bar for yourself? You could start with smaller projects.”
“No, trust me,” I said. “I can get the projects rolling. I will have the report and supporting documentation by next Monday.”
I wrote down a list of names and called my assistant. She came into my office, and I handed her the list.
“I want these people to work on a project with me,” I told her. “Have them assembled in the conference room in a half hour.”
“Yes, Miss Wilson,” the assistant said and hurried from the room.
“Care to sit in on the meeting?” I asked Victor.
“Sure,” he replied.
We had coffee while we waited for everyone on my list to arrive in the conference room.
I had chosen my best and brightest open minds from the junior executives.
Before the time was up, the conference room was filled with my chosen employees. Victor and I entered the room, and I sat at the head of the table.
“Good afternoon. I have selected each of you to assist me with a report for a new project,” I said.
“I need everything from the ground up: documentation of profitability, projection of those profits, and an entire business model with branding and advertising.”
The junior executives looked at each other in disbelief. It was a considerable break to be included in this group. If the project was successful, their careers would take off.
I spent the next hour presenting my ideas to them. There were a few who had many questions. I could tell they doubted the profitability, but that would make the outcome of the reports more honest.
“I need to be able to put something together for a presentation to the board by next Monday,” I said.
I looked at a young Alpha who had paid attention to every word I said with an eager expression.
“Oliver, I would like you to be the point person. The rest of you will coordinate with him, and he will stay in touch with me. I want to see your daily progress with the research, and I will assist in writing the final report.”
“Are there any other questions?” I asked.
I answered a few questions before telling them about compensation for the project.
“It’s a lot of work in a short amount of time,” I said. “But you were chosen because I have faith in your abilities. To show my appreciation, you will all receive a twenty percent bonus for working on this project.”
There were oohs and aahs all around the table.
“Thank you all, and let's get to work.”
I stood, and Victor followed me from the room. We returned to my office and closed the door.
“Very well done, Daisy,” Victor said. “You would make a fine General.”
“I’m going to prove to you and the Board of Directors that we can help Betas and be profitable at the same time.”
“If it can be done, I know you will prove it,” he said.
“You don’t believe me?”
“It’s not anything I’ve ever looked into, so I just don’t know,” Victor replied. “ I’m sorry, but I …I’ve never thought about it. But I am now. You have a way of changing my mind.”
I grinned. “That’s good to know.”
“But I want you to be careful not to let yourself get burned out,” Victor said. “You’re passionate about this project, but if you rush it and don’t take breaks, you may make mistakes that could ruin it.”
“I promise to take time for myself,” I said. “I’ll eat, sleep, and go for a run every evening.”
“Good. I’ll be watching and available if you need help,” Victor said. “Do you want a ride home yet? Alex invited me to dinner tonight.”
“Sure,” I said, wondering why Alex wanted to see Victor. “I’ll be ready in a few minutes.”
We left for my home, and I was delighted to see William when we got there.
“You can stay for dinner, too,” I told William. It would be nice to have dinner with all three of my favorite Alpha males.
