Chapter 141

“You and your daughter must leave right now,” I demanded.

“Why?” John said with a sneer. “Don’t you want everyone to hear the truth?”

Victor squeezed my hand, and I felt his strength flowing through me. It gave me the extra courage I needed at that moment.

“The …the truth is, Mr. Cameron, is that you and your daughter are here only to make trouble,” I said.

Despite my anger, I was trying to choose my words carefully. The Camerons were devious enough to spin my words to their advantage.

But it was hard to think while arguing in front of all these people. If I started to stutter, my words would become meaningless. Nobody would take stammering seriously.

I needed to give in to my anger just enough to let my words flow freely yet remain in control of myself.

But Karen seemed intent on making me lose it on her.

“How is enlightening these people about your scam causing trouble?” Karen yelled. “The only trouble that’s been caused is by you trying to pull the wool over these good people’s eyes to steal their money.”

“This auction is as fake as your ability to run a company,” John added. “You’ll all see how unfit Daisy is to run a business after she flunks the competency test I’m giving her this Friday.”

“Don’t bid on any of this trash, and leave this place,” Karen declared. “All the Wilsons want is your money.”

“Everyone, please, listen to me,” I said as loudly as possible without screaming. “Many of you have donated the items for this auction, and you know that what the Camerons are saying about those items being fake is a lie.”

Lily spoke up first. “That’s true. All of you know, I would never present items for this auction that were not truly designer originals. The Camerons are lying.”

The Luna who had donated the diamond necklace, spoke next. “That is true of me also. Many of you have seen me wear this necklace over the years.”

She pulled papers from her purse. “Here is the certificate of authenticity and the insurer's appraisal. You are all welcome to examine them.”

Karen snorted and waved her hand at the Luna. “Those papers mean nothing. They are phony too.”

The Luna gasped. “How dare you? Everyone here knows I do not lie.”

“And I can assure you all that my fiancée’s father is not broke,” Victor told the crowd. “You all know that Alex Wilson is not a fool that would lose all his wealth. The Camerons are lying.”

Soon, others were speaking up about the authenticity of their donations. Even if any of the guests had not donated anything, they were friends of someone who had donated a prized possession.

Karen was looking more and more foolish to everyone in the room. Their shock evaporated as they realized Karen and John had an agenda.

But John wasn’t willing to give up yet. “Why are you people sticking up for this girl? She was raised by Betas and is not one of us.”

“They are sticking up for the truth, not me,” I said. “You can’t gaslight people who know better than to believe your lies.”

“This girl is lying. She is trying to steal from all of us,” John said. “I’m going to expose her as a fraud when she fails the test the board of directors gives her on Friday. You’ll see.”

“John Cameron is trying to steal Wilson, Inc. from Daisy and her father,” Victor said. “They have formed a plot around the supposed test.”

William spoke up. “We have witnesses who can tell you about their plan to switch Daisy‘s test with one they have completed to make it appear that she failed.”

“John even had someone steal samples of Daisy’s handwriting to forge the fake test better,” Victor revealed. “This witness is willing to come forward with a recording of John discussing his plan to discredit Daisy.”

I blinked back grateful tears. I didn’t know Victor and William were trying so hard to help me. I was lucky to have them both as my dear friends.

“These two young males are enchanted by the girl. They are making things up to try to help her,” John lied. The more he and his daughter’s falsehoods were exposed, the more they doubled down on their lies.

“A third party must administer the test,” an older Alpha male declared. “It is the only way to be sure the test is fair.”

“I am in charge of the test,” John insisted. “I assure you it will be fair, and all of this talk of a fake test is lies.”

They saw John for who he really was now. Other high-ranking Alphas demanded a third party administer the test to ensure it was fair.

“Otherwise, the test results will not be accepted by anyone in our society,” Harry said.

“It has been proven that you and your daughter are liars by what you have said about the items for auction,” Lana added.

“You should go away from here and make trouble elsewhere,” the woman who wanted the pocket watch said.

Her friend spoke up next. “No one in this room believes a word you say, nor will anyone else when we tell them about what you tried to do today.”

Red-faced, the Camerons hurried toward the exit. They left without saying another word.

After they left, it was like the crowd could breathe again. The room buzzed with conversation, and many of the guests assured me they never believed the trouble-making father and daughter.

The auction had been saved. The bidding continued for another half hour.

Then the winners of each item were given the option of taking their items with them or having them delivered the next day. After the checkbooks were used and put away, the crowd began to thin.

“Everything has been sold!” Lana declared. “Even my car. We raised millions for the charity, Daisy.”

“Thank you all so much,” I said. “It never would have happened without you.”

Several reporters entered the conservatory. They did interviews with several of us and took a group photo.

“This will make a great story for the front page,” one reporter declared. “You’ve managed to raise all this money for charity.”

“How will it be used to help people, Miss Wilson?” he asked.

“It will help people in need with housing, food, and medical expenses,” I replied. “I also want to invest in their children's education and daycare for hardworking families.”

“They sound like very worthy causes,” he said. “Congratulations on a job well done.”

The reporters departed, and there wasn’t anything left for me to do.

Lana had her workers boxing up items to be delivered to their new owners tomorrow. And Lily’s cleaning staff were busy returning the conservatory to normal.

“Ready to go home?” Victor asked.

“Anytime you are,” I replied. I was grateful the day was saved, but the adrenaline rush from John and Karen’s unsuccessful attack left me tired and hungry.

I needed to eat and get some sleep. I only had a few days to study for my test and prepare for the charity ball.

Those days would be busy, but now my competency test would be fair unless John had something else up his sleeve. He wasn’t the type to accept defeat and humiliation.

I decided to discuss it with Victor and William tomorrow. I didn’t need another surprise attack.
