Chapter 137
“Daisy, she’s not worth it,” Victor said as he took my hand.
But I shook him off and walked over to Karen. “William and I are friends. If you can’t get a boyfriend, don’t blame me. You are spoiled and unpleasant to be around.”
“How …how dare you speak to me that way?” Karen sputtered. “You’re nothing. You were raised by Betas, and no self-respecting Alpha wants anything to do with you.”
“Yes, I was raised by Betas,” I said. “And I have always avoided spoiled Alphas like you who think of nobody but themselves.”
“And the fact that William doesn’t want to date you has nothing to do with me,” I continued. “William told Victor and I that he doesn’t like you. Everyone can see why.”
Karen inhaled sharply and glared at me.
I got in her face. “And you don’t know William at all if you think he would pursue another man’s fiancée. He has too much honor to do that. But then, honor isn’t something you would understand.”
Gisele, her assistants, and the other customers in the store all listened with smirks on their faces. When Karen ran out of the shop, they all applauded.
“I’m sorry, Gisele, for the scene and your shop,” I said. I seemed to be apologizing a lot because of Karen.
“It's quite alright, Miss Wilson,” Gisele said. “Miss Cameron isn’t a good customer. My staff and I won’t miss her bad temper and bad manners. Hopefully, she will never return.”
I took my purchases and left the shop with Victor right behind me.
“I hate to admit it, but that felt good,” I said as I climbed into the Lamborghini. “Does that make me an awful person?”
“No. She had it coming,” Victor added. “You couldn’t pay me enough to date her.”
Victor took me to my office, where William was waiting to speak to us. I told him at lunch about John’s plan to substitute my test for a fake one that would make it appear that I flunked.
He and Victor made an excuse to go into Mitch Long’s office to speak to him about it. They wanted more details about the plan.
While they were gone, I began to go over the weekly reports. Suddenly, my door slammed shut, and I looked up to see John Cameron. His ruddy complexion and wild eyes told me he was in a rage.
“What makes you think you can get away with speaking to my daughter like you did at Gisele’s …in public!” he snapped. “I demand you stay away from her.”
The look on his face was frightening. I was alone with an enraged man. I didn’t want to take any nonsense, but he was angry enough to harm me.
“If you act weak and afraid, he could be more dangerous,” Diana said. “Call him by his first name, stand up for yourself, and demand he leave the building.”
“John, your …your daughter was spreading lies about me,” I said. “She …she got what she deserved, and you need to leave this building, or I’m calling security to have you removed.”
He put his hands on his hips and glared at me. “You just wait. You will soon be the one out the door. I will make sure that you suffer for having the nerve to think you are as good as someone like me.”
My pulse jumped when he stepped closer. “I don’t care if you’re supposed to be Wilson’s daughter. You are nothing but Beta trash,” he added defiantly.
I reached for my desk phone to call security, but John yanked it from my hand, pulling the wire from the wall. He tossed the phone aside and started walking around the desk to me.
“You need to go back where you came from,” he told me. “With your old man dying, I had a plan to make everything mine. It still will be as soon as I get rid of you.”
I stood. “You need to get out of here right now.”
“What are you going to do about it? I’m going to own this building. I’m going to own this company. And I’m going to see you living in a gutter with the rest of the Beta trash.”
“Never! You’ll never get your hands on this company. Get out!” I screamed.
My door flew open, and Victor, William, and Mitch entered the room, followed by several other employees.
“You heard what she said, John,” Victor growled. “Get out.”
He and William surrounded John, keeping him from coming closer to me.
“You are going down with her, Victor,” John declared. “Nobody messes with me …nobody!”
John stormed out of the room and onto an elevator.
Why does this need to happen? I don’t want to fight with anybody. I didn’t want anybody to hate me.
I was just living my life as best as I could. I don’t want a feud with anyone.
But how do I end it? How do I end this feud between myself and the Camerons? I won’t give up the company.
Security arrived as William and Victor were helping me into my chair. My teeth were chattering, and my legs were rubbery.
“Thank you for coming to my rescue,” I said. I was beginning to calm down, but I wouldn’t feel comfortable until I knew for sure he was gone.
“Has John Cameron left the building?” I asked the security guards.
“Nobody saw him leave,” one guard replied. “We have people checking the building and looking at surveillance video of all the exits.”
The security guard stepped outside my office and spoke to someone on his radio.
“He was spotted in a stairwell,” the guard said from the doorway.” “When one of the men went after him, he left through an emergency exit. He’s gone now.”
A sigh of relief came from my employees before they returned to their desks.
“Are you sure?” Victor asked.
“We are positive,” the guard replied.
“Thank you for your quick response,” I told him. “Please keep watch in case he tries to return. He is not permitted in the building. Have him arrested if you must.”
The guard nodded, and both of them left my office.
“Maybe Daisy should go home and relax,” William said.
“I agree,” Victor said. “What do you think, Daisy?”
I closed the files in front of me and stood. “I’ll take these reports with me to go over after dinner. But I don’t like being uncomfortable in my own space.”
“You’ll be back tomorrow,” Victor assured me as he and William began to escort me to the parking garage. It was nice to feel so safe walking between them.
William helped me into the Lamborghini. “Go home and rest, Daisy. I’ll see you in school tomorrow.”
“Not for long,” Victor said. “I asked Principal Jones for a shorter school day until after your test. And tomorrow, you will begin learning something new and exciting.”
William grinned. “You’re going to be fascinated, Daisy.”
My curiosity was piqued. “What is it?” I asked. “What will you be teaching me next?”
“Should we give her a hint?” William asked Victor.
Victor chuckled. “We are going to teach you how to get even more wealthy without doing any work.”
My mouth opened in surprise. I knew what they meant, and I was eager to learn all about it.
