Chapter 114

Since I wouldn’t be missing an actual class, Principal Jones agreed to let me leave school early each day. She gave permission for William, too, when he didn't have football practice.

We met at the front entrance after we signed out and walked out to the student’s parking lot together.

William helped me into the passenger seat of his Mustang, and I gave him directions to the parking garage's entrance below Alex’s office building.

“Wow! Your father owns this whole building?” William asked while parking in a slot near the elevators.

“Yes, and this is only one of his buildings,” I replied. “Come on, let’s go upstairs.”

We took an elevator up to Alex’s office, and William had a good look around before we started on the files that had been placed on the desk

William took a glance at some of Alex’s holdings and whistled. “I knew your family was wealthy, but I didn’t realize they were this wealthy.”

“Your family is wealthy, too,” I said.

“Not like yours,” William observed. “I’m impressed. And you’re going to be in control of everything.”

“Yes. Unless John Cameron and the rest of them steal it from me.”

“You can’t let that happen,” William said. “Your family built this company. Nobody else has any right to it but you. But are you sure you want to run it yourself?”

“I think so,” I replied. “But I'm going to do it in a way that not only makes more money, but it also helps people.”

“If anybody can do that, it’s you, Daisy.”

I blushed a little at the compliment, but I knew William was being sincere.

I was impressed and slightly surprised at William's knowledge about business matters. He may have been unwilling to learn, but he learned well.

It was great to spend time with him too. After things got so crazy after my ball and he left the city, I missed him. I was glad to have him in my life again.

So was Diana. She and Mark enjoyed being near each other and whispering in the background of our minds.

As William and I went over different accounts, I couldn’t help but sneak looks at William’s handsome image.

And several times, I was distracted by the way our knees brushed together as we sat side-by-side behind my father’s big desk. His touch was thrilling.

Plus, William’s golden blonde hair looked incredibly soft. I wanted to reach out and touch it. And until this moment, I never noticed the gold flecks in his sky-blue eyes.

During all those werewolf history classes, when my crush on him was growing stronger, I never would have believed I would have had a chance to spend time with him like this.

It was amazing and exciting to think I could have a future with this handsome, intelligent, and caring young man.

But time will tell. Life seemed to enjoy surprising me.

After we had the paperwork caught up, William took me home. He walked me to the door, and we agreed to find more time to spend together soon.

Since Victor was busy this evening, I canceled our plans to attend a party and had dinner with Alex in his room.

He seemed a little better. His appetite was improving, and we had a pleasant meal together for the first time in weeks.

“I hope you’re not bored spending your Friday night with me,” Alex said after Benson took away our trays.

I took his hand. “I’m not bored at all. I enjoy spending time with you.”

“How are things at the office?” he asked.

“Things are going well,” I replied and told him what I had been working on that afternoon.

Alex yawned. “You are doing wonderfully, sweetheart. You’re learning quickly, and I’m so proud of you.”

“I’m glad I’ve made you proud,” I told him. “But now you’re growing sleepy, and you should rest.”

I kissed his cheek and said good night before going upstairs to my room.

I soaked in my tub for a while and then got out and wrapped a fluffy robe around me. As I was taking out my contacts, Jennifer entered my room.

“It’s strange to have you home on a Friday night,” she commented.

“I could use the rest,” I told her. “Amy’s coming tomorrow morning to work on a school project with me.”

“That’ll be nice, Miss,” Jennifer said as she gathered my dirty clothes. “Ring for me if you need anything else.”

After Jennifer left, I pulled on a nightgown and climbed into bed. It didn’t take me long to fall asleep.

I had a dream about Victor and William, but when I awoke the next morning, I couldn’t remember much about it. But it made me uneasy.

I dressed in jeans and a T-shirt before going downstairs to have breakfast with Alex.

“You’re not going to the office today?” Alex asked after seeing my casual attire.

“Amy is coming here to work on a project for school with me,” I replied. “Victor and I will work in your office this afternoon. And we will be attending the association party in your place tonight.”

“Good,” Alex said. “I want them to get to know you and Victor, so they can see how capable you both are.”

Amy arrived soon after I left Alex with his nurses. We finished our report on the drafting and signing of the third werewolf amendment in only a few hours.

“We still work great together,” I told Amy as I led her onto my balcony to talk and drink some sodas. “I’ve missed hanging out with you.”

“I know,” Amy said. “It feels like we’re growing up and growing apart. You can shift now, whenever you want. I’m so jealous.”

“Shifting is pretty great,” I admitted. “After you turn eighteen, you can come here and go for a run with me.”

“If it’s allowed,” Amy said. “What’s it like to shift? Justine told me it’s wonderful.”

“It's freedom,” I replied. “Don’t be scared of it like I was. You’ll love it.”

“Does it hurt?” she asked.

“Not at all,” I replied. “It feels a little strange the first time while it’s happening. But it’s like coming out of your shell and becoming what you’re supposed to be.”

“Thanks, Daisy, that makes me feel better,” Amy said. “It’s a few months away, but I’ve been nervous thinking about it.”

“My wolf, Diana, is listening to us,” I told her. “She said to say hello and that everyone is nervous before their first shift.”

Amy grinned. “Hello, Diana. It’s nice to meet you.”

“You should ask her about Justin,” Diana said to me. “After Alex became ill, we forgot about him and his false claim that he is a beta.”

“I know it’s been crazy, but I don’t want to say anything that will upset Amy before Victor and I can talk to Justin.”

Following Diana’s advice, I asked, “So, how is Justin?”

“He’s doing great,” Amy replied. “Except he was a little disappointed when he got a B minus on his midterm.”

“After all that studying,” I said. “What a shame.”

“Yeah, right,” Diana said in my mind. “The lying sack of crap was at a party the night he told Amy he was studying.”

“I know, right.” Amy sighed. “I don’t know when you’ll have a chance to meet him. He gets weird when I mention you. It must be the whole you’re an Alpha thing.”

“Yeah, I’m sure that’s what it is,” Diana said. I was glad Amy couldn’t hear her.

“I’m sure I’ll meet him sometime,” I said, not wanting to pressure my friend right now.

“So, what big party or ball do you get to go to tonight?” Amy asked.

“Victor and I are attending a party at the home of an assistant leader of the United Association of Alphas,” I replied. “Since Alex is still too weak to go, we are going in his place.”

“I guess it’s a good thing for you guys to get to know those people, but I’d hate it,” Amy said. “Yuck. Good luck dealing with those rich Alphas.”

“Thanks,” I said. “To tell you the truth, I’m not looking forward to it.”
