Chapter 100

Victor’s POV

I couldn’t stop thinking about the argument with Daisy. My reaction to her concerns was way out of line.

She needed me to tell her everything would work out. Instead, I accused her of things and acted horribly.

I couldn’t control my tumultuous emotions while I wondered if Daisy was going to end our deal now that she could have William.

I blamed it all on Adam.

To make matters worse, she was right about hurting our families. She was also correct about my motivation for proposing the deal in the first place.

The situation was all my fault. But I don't know how to fix it now. It would have to play out, or things could get worse for both of us.

But I wouldn’t be able to concentrate on anything else until I apologized to her, and I had to do it in person.

I texted her to tell her I was on my way to talk to her before leaving my office.

In the parking garage, I jumped into the Lamborghini and started the engine. There would be a lot of traffic in the city at this time of day, but I couldn’t wait any longer to apologize to her.

Daisy was a special person, and I should’ve known she would feel bad about our fake engagement after getting to know my mother.

My mother, the tough Luna, fell for Daisy’s wholesome charm almost as soon as she met her.

And my father, the seasoned businessman, told me Daisy would be good for me. He called her refreshing and charming.

They could be quite disappointed if they ever knew the truth.

It was something that never crossed my mind when I proposed the fake engagement. I thought my parents were only going to see my chosen partner as my business partner.

Just like them.

But there was no way out of the engagement now. We were in too deep. The only thing I could do for Daisy was to apologize and let her know I understood her feelings.

I needed to assure her that we would get through this together.

But when I got to Alex’s mansion, Benson couldn’t find her.

“She’s not in her room or the library, nor is she in any other of the downstairs rooms,” Benson told me. “Mr. James arrived a short time ago. Perhaps she’s outside with him.”

Was she out walking in the gardens with William? Did she call him the second I dropped her off?

I felt Adam awaken, and a twinge of anger shot through me.

“Thank you, Benson,” I said. “I believe I know where she is. I’ll find her myself.”

“Very good, sir,” Benson said and walked toward Alex’s room.

After rushing outside, I hurried to the gardens. Adam churned inside my mind. I could feel his anger in the pit of my stomach and building. It was like a ball of fire that wanted to explode from my chest.

“She can’t do this to us,” Adam roared. I never before had trouble controlling him like this. His jealousy was consuming us both.

“Adam, you must stop,” I commanded. “Even if she did call William, she’s not doing anything wrong. We don’t own Daisy and Diana.”

“We are Fated Mates,” he grumbled. “How can you let them get close to another male and his wolf? Daisy chose you over William. That means Diana is mine.”

“That’s not how it works anymore,” I told him. “Daisy can choose her mate if she wishes. And Diana also feels the mate bond with William’s wolf.”

“No, she chose us!” Adam insisted. “Have you forgotten how wonderful it was to run with Daisy and Diana? The pure joy of being with them?”

“Adam, you need to stop this. I’m here to apologize to Daisy. We will be civil to William and his wolf, and we will leave after I have spoken to her.”

Adam said nothing more as I walked around the mansion to the gardens.

It was a beautiful day. Maybe some time in the garden has made Daisy feel better, and she’ll accept my apology.

Another flash of anger jolted through me when Adam retrieved the memory of Daisy in William’s arms at the pond pavilion from the back of my mind.

“He was saving her from falling into the water,” I reminded Adam. “Stop looking for reasons to be angry.”

But as we walked through the rose garden, I stumbled upon a male’s jeans and shirt and felt Adam’s anger double.

Hurrying to the other side of the roses, I found the clothes Daisy had worn to visit my mother.

“We must find them now!” he roared.

Adam’s anger and jealousy flooded my mind and body. I tore off my clothes, flung them aside, and shifted.

I have never felt such anger as my wolf headed for the open field. It was like a dream as the high grass rush passed me.

Daisy and William‘s wolf were at the top of the hill. They sat close together, watching us approach as Adam thundered toward them.

For the first time in my life, I was powerless to stop Adam. His anger and jealousy consumed him, and his emotions had become mine.

“What are you doing out here with him and his wolf?” Adam demanded of Daisy. “You are officially engaged to Victor.”

“Yes, I am engaged to Victor, and I answer to him, not you, Adam,” Daisy snapped. “And Victor gave me his approval to be friends with William in front of witnesses. You have no right to scold me.”

“I have every right,” Adam roared.

“Back off, Adam,” Mark said, baring his teeth at the other wolf. “William and Daisy are doing nothing wrong. Who are you to interfere?”

“We are their true mate!” Adam snarled. His lips curled back to show his own sharp fangs.

William’s wolf and mine began to snarl and circle each other, looking for an opportunity to attack.

“Stop this right now,” Daisy insisted. “I will have nothing more to do with the first one of you who attacks the other. I mean it!”

Adam and I pulled back and began to pace a few feet away from the others.

“There will be no fighting,” she continued. “I told you before; I am not a prize to be won. I will choose my mate. Your teeth will not decide my future.”

I sat in the grass. “I am sorry, Daisy. I’ve never had trouble controlling Adam before. I came here to apologize for my bad behavior, and now Adam and I have made it worse.”

“You had no right to act this way toward me,” Daisy said. “William showed up to bring me a book I wanted to borrow and saw that I was crying and upset over the fight with you.”

“I needed to talk to somebody, so William and I went for a run together to help me clear my head. There was nothing romantic about it.”

I hung my head in shame. I showed extreme weakness in not controlling my wolf, and I caused more harm to my already fragile relationship with Daisy.

Daisy’s wolf’s eyes shone with her determination, “I must also remind both of you another time that I can have my own friends, and nobody will run my life, not even a fated mate.”

“Daisy, I’m not here for a fight,” I said. “I know it’s not a good time for this, but I came here to tell you that I was wrong to speak to you the way I did earlier, and I should have been able to control Adam.”

“But I will…” Adam began.

“Silence, Adam!” I demanded. “I don’t want to hear another word from you until I call for you. You will never take over me like that again, or the punishment will be severe.”

I felt a smaller twinge of anger from Adam, but he remained silent.

“Don’t be too hard on him,” Diana said. “It’s the mate bond that is making him react so strongly.”

“As long as there is no more fighting, all is forgiven,” Daisy said. “Now let’s all go back home before Alex finds out anything.”
