Chapter 203

My eyes widened in shock, my gaze shifting between Lucas and Kendrick.

The knot of dread tightened in my stomach.

"What are you talking about?" I asked, thinking I could possibly deny his claim. He didn't have any proof that I was the White Wolf.

Kendrick rolled his eyes. "Don't try to pretend as if it isn't true like Lucas did a few minutes ago. I know you're lying. You know perfectly well what I'm talking about."

At the mention of Lucas's name, another thought came in my head. Had Lucas told Kendrick? No... he wouldn't do that, would he?

It seemed that Kendrick knew where my thoughts had gone because he spoke before her thoughts unraveled any further.

"Don't you worry. Before you start yelling at Lucas, no, he didn't tell me. I found out on my own," Kendrick stated calmly, his eyes fixed on me. "I saw you running through the woods."

Panic surged through me, my mind racing with the implications of Kendrick witnessing my transformation. "What exactly did you see?"

"At first, I just saw Lucas chasing after the White Wolf. I followed him, partly because I was curious, but also because something was drawing me in... like a magnet."

A magnet. Did that have anything to do with me? Professor Black had mentioned that the White Wolf's force can be felt by nearby alphas... Is that what Kendrick felt when he saw me?

"I watched as you ran into a tree, transforming from the White Wolf back into your human form," Kendrick said, looking at me thoughtfully. "When I saw it was you, I was... quite surprised."

My heart raced, and I couldn't shake the ominous feeling that came with the realization that Kendrick had witnessed my transformation.

The fear of the unknown consequences of him having this information gripped me, considering I didn't fully understand the extent of my abilities.

It also made me wonder what Lucas had told him. It was clear that the two of them had some kind of conversation in the car prior to me joining.

I hoped he hadn't revealed too much about my lack of control. Although, if Kendrick witnessed me crash into a tree, he probably didn't think I was the big bad White Wolf like all the legends had claimed.

At least, not yet.

That meant that Kendrick had sat with this information for a week now, since that was when I had found out about my father's passing.

Why did he wait so long to say anything? Was he researching the White Wolf to make sense of it all? Would this change anything?

"So... I'm the White Wolf," I finally admitted aloud. The confession felt strange, the words echoing back at me, almost surreal. "How does that change anything for you?"

Kendrick bristled, leaning forward in his seat. "This changes everything. Not just for me, but for the entire world."

His choice of words sent a shiver down my spine. The entire world? I hadn't prepared for such a revelation to reach beyond the tight circle of those I trusted.

The weight of the truth still hung heavily within me, and Kendrick's proclamation only intensified my unease.

Anxiously, I turned to Lucas, seeking support. "I don't want anyone to find out about this. That's why Lucas and I promised not to tell anyone anything."

I expected Lucas to speak up, to reassure me, but he remained silent, creating a void that amplified my uncertainty.

The unspoken tension lingered in the air, and I felt a growing unease as Kendrick's penetrating gaze fixed upon me.

"This isn't a secret you can keep forever," Kendrick said. "This is something you should want to tell people. Do you even understand what this means?"

My heart thudded against my chest.

"I understand that I don't want to become the center of attention. I have to keep this to myself, and I would like for you to do the same," I asserted, giving Kendrick a pointed stare.

I aimed for confidence and firmness, hoping to convey the gravity of the situation.

"I can't keep this information to myself," Kendrick responded, his face serious and devoid of remorse.

My heart flipped at his words, and my immediate instinct was to glance at Lucas. The weight of Kendrick's revelation hung in the air, and the potential consequences raced through my mind.

Was Lucas aware that his father was about to expose my secret, something that could change everything?

"Lucas can't stop me," Kendrick declared, causing me to break eye contact with his son. I returned my gaze to Kendrick, narrowing my eyes cautiously.

There was a challenge in them, an edge that had shifted our dynamic.

"What are you going to do to me?" I blurted out, unable to suppress the fear clawing at me.

The uncertainty of Kendrick scrutinizing me with the newfound knowledge of my supernatural nature unsettled me deeply.

I pondered the potential actions he might take now that he was aware. Would he lock me up? Keep me under constant surveillance?

The unknown possibilities gnawed at my thoughts, heightening my sense of vulnerability.

I didn't know. Kendrick was capable of so many things. Things that I couldn't even wrap my own head around.

Kendrick chuckled, a sound that sent shivers down my spine. "Do something to you? Shana, I'd be the dumbest wolf in the world to mess with the White Wolf. I'm not that foolish."

Confusion momentarily replaced my fear. "Then why...?"

"I managed to get in touch with the Alpha King," Kendrick interjected, dropping the bombshell that left me frozen. "And he wants to meet you as soon as possible."

The mention of the Alpha King sent a chill through me.

I had heard vague whispers and mysteries surrounding him, and the notion that he desired to meet me left me both curious and uneasy.

"Why would the Alpha King want to meet me?" I couldn't help but voice my perplexity, unsure of why someone of such stature would be interested in someone like me.

"You're the White Wolf; I'm certain that lots of people want to meet you," Kendrick said. "I have a feeling they won't be expecting someone like you."

I glanced at Lucas, uncertainty etched across my face. Was he okay with this? It sounded insane.

There was a look of concern on his face as he stared at me. I could see his mind running with possibilities of what could happen.

What was I going to tell the Alpha King if I met him? Besides my wolf, there was nothing about my life that could interest him. There was nothing significant about me... What could he possibly want to do with me?

"You're certain he wants to meet her?" Lucas asked his father skeptically. It seemed like this was the first he was hearing of it.

"That was his only response," Kendrick clarified. "I'm not sure if he believes it. He wants to see Shana for himself."

"So, what? We just show up there?" By the tone of Lucas's voice, I could tell he thought this was a horrible idea.

"Of course not," Kendrick fixed the cuffs on his sleeves. "I have a plan."
