Chapter 165
I couldn't help but feel a surge of excitement as I walked toward the hockey locker rooms where Lucas wanted to meet.
It had been such a long time since the two of us had trained together. I was excited to work on myself and show him any new abilities I had, and I was equally as excited to see him.
After seeing him in person and talking thing through, I felt much more at ease. It seemed that Lucas was having a rough time with everything, just like me.
That was all the reassurance that I needed.
As I stepped down the hallway, I spotted Lucas already waiting for me wearing his work out clothes.
When he heard me approaching, a smile lit up his face. Again, it felt like a weight had been lifted off my chest from just seeing him again.
"Hey there," I greeted him, my voice bubbling with excitement.
"Hey there, beautiful," Lucas replied as his blue eyes locked on mine. There was a mischievous glint in his eyes, and I couldn't help but blush under his gaze.
Lucas grabbed ahold of my hand as we started to walk toward the training facility. The hallways were empty as we swung our hands back and forth.
"Did any security follow you here?" I asked, curious if his father was trusting or tracking his every move.
"He had a driver take me here," Lucas said. "I guess he wanted to make sure I wasn't lying and actually driving somewhere else. But he gave me his personal chauffeur, so he won't stay here waiting for me all day."
"So, he still doesn't fully trust you?"
"I guess not." Lucas shrugged. "I can't really blame him for being cautious, but I have to admit it gets annoying at times."
I couldn't even imagine what it would be like to live with Kendrick twenty-four seven.
When we got into the training facility, Lucas advised me to start on some light warm-up exercises. His first task was for us to stretch and prepare our bodies for whatever training we had ahead.
Once I had started to break into a light sweat, after jogging, Lucas told me that we could have a five minute break to recoup.
He began offering me tips and advice on what I could do to help control my shifting abilities.
"Remember, Shana, when I first started, I used tricks to help my body differentiate between my human and wolf sides," Lucas said, guiding me through some exercises. "It's all about balance and control. I know it's easier said than done, but you always have to remember that."
"What tricks?" I asked, wanting to know what's helped him.
"I use my memories, my thoughts," Lucas explained. "I think about when I'm the most happy or at peace."
"That's a good idea," I said as I rested my hands on my hips. "When are the most happy?"
Lucas walked closer to me until he was standing right in front of me. He gazed down at my lips as he grabbed my face gently.
"Right now," he said in a quiet voice. "This is a memory I can use."
My heart fluttered at his confession and I nervously licked my lips. "You think about me?"
"All the time." Lucas bent down to kiss my mouth. As he pulled away he said, "Okay, break time is over."
Next, he led me through a series of work outs meant to specifically target certain areas.
"Think you want to lift some weights?" Lucas asked as he picked up two fifteen pound dumbbells. "Strength training is great for warming up your muscles."
"Sure," I agreed, following him.
As I lifted the dumbbells, I was surprised by how easy it was. When Lucas and I had trained before my shift, I wasn't able to pick up as much weight. This was double that now...
"Look at you." Lucas smiled as he counted down my repetitions. "You're getting stronger than me."
I rolled my eyes, pushing myself through the last few set of work outs. "I'm not stronger than you."
"Not yet, but at this rate, I feel like you'll get there."
I dropped the weights, turning to face him. "Do you really think I could be stronger than you?"
He shrugged, looking me up and down. "It's possible. You're the White Wolf, you're supposed to be stronger than everyone."
"I am?" I questioned, feeling an overwhelming sense of dread.
"Yes, Shana." Lucas crackled his knuckles obnoxiously. "Don't you remember the legend?"
"I do, but I thought they meant that the White Wolf was just a strong wolf in general... not the strongest of all time."
"Well, you are a strong wolf, but you're also one of the strongest... if not the strongest."
I blew out a breath, taking it in. I couldn't even imagine myself being stronger than Lucas. That just seemed impossible.
"You might not feel it right now, but soon everything will make sense. You'll feel more connected to your wolf once you have full control. Right now, it's all up in the air," Lucas said trying to ease some of my tension.
I nodded in understanding. "You're right. I guess I haven't thought too much about it lately."
"Then it's time we start." Lucas smiled and winked at me. "You're the number one priority."
I had noticed a change in Lucas then. Our entire time while training, I've noticed that Lucas would sneak in an affectionate touch, a warm smile, or a tender kiss that would catch me off guard.
All of my doubts and fears surrounding our recent separation were put on the back burner because everything felt so normal between us now.
"Lucas, why are you being so affectionate today?" I couldn't help but ask, curious about his sudden change in tenderness. "Not that I'm complaining."
He chuckled, a light but mischievous glint shined in his eyes. "Don't you know, Shana? Distance makes the heart grow fonder."
I laughed as I rolled my eyes at his cheesiness. "You're being so lovey dovey today. After radio silence for a week... this is nice. I missed it."
"I told you, I'm happy." Lucas started to make his way toward me. "Because of you."
I smiled up at him. "I'm happy, too."
"This is such a great way to start my mornings," Lucas confessed, putting hand on my hip. "It's going to help me get through the rest of my day."
"Me too." I leaned up on my tip toes to kiss him.
When we finally finished our training session, the two of us sat on the training room floor to catch our breaths.
Lucas turned to me, his expression serious. "I forgot to ask, did you message Professor Black?"
I nodded. "I did, yesterday after I left your father's company," I replied easily. "He said he's doing further research to see if there's anything he could help me with. He wants to meet us soon again to share his findings because apparently, he has something to share."
Lucas seemed relieved by that news. "Well, either that's good to hear, or something to be worried about. But I think Professor Blac is going to give us whatever help we need."
