Chapter 137
Third Peron POV
“Do you really think Xaden would break her heart?” Sarah asked, doubt creeping in. She had been locked away in this dungeon for too long. She was itching to be set free and begin her revenge plan on Maeve. She wanted Maeve to suffer in unimaginable ways for what she had done.
“If we get the King on our side then it shouldn’t be a problem. I already have a plan in the works,” Alpha Kenneth told them.
“What kind of plan?” Victoria was the one who asked. “If you want us to work together, then we need to know everything you are planning, Alpha.”
“Very well,” he agreed. “As I said, I’m getting Princess Mia involved. She was already meant to marry Prince Xaden. But after he met Maeve, the plans changed, and they decided to have her marry Prince Lucas instead.”
“And you think Mia would still want to marry Xaden?” Isabelle asked. “What makes you so sure of that?”
“I spoke to her on the phone a few days ago and from the sounds of it, she’s very much still interested in Xaden and not looking forward to this new arrangement with Lucas,” Kenneth surprised them all by saying. He let out a laugh and shook his head. “In fact, she was rather confused as to why the plans changed. It seems that nobody explained to her that Xaden had met his fated mate.”
“She’s bound to find out sooner or later though,” Isabelle said with a frown. “And then do you think she would still want to pursue him?”
“Oh, I don’t think that’ll be a problem. Leave that part to me,” he murmured, a twinkle of humor in his eyes. “When the princess wants something, she will get it. I don’t think anything will stand in her way, not even in an illegitimate mutt.”
Victoria’s eyes lit up.
“And when she is gone… what will happen to her?” Victoria asked, eagerness practically consuming her.
Kenneth smirked.
“I have my own plans for her,” he murmured. “Trust me… you’ll like what I have in store for little miss Maeve. Once I’m done with her, I’ll let you do whatever you want. I only have one purpose for her and then I’ll toss her aside.”
Isabelle’s chest was set to ease; her father didn’t love Maeve more than he loved her. He was only using her for his own personal gain. This made her feel a lot better and she let out the breath she hadn’t known she was holding.
“So, what do you need from us for right now?” Victoria asked, glancing at Sarah who remained in the cell with her arms wrapped around her body. “When will we be able to get my daughter out of this dungeon?”
“Patience,” Kenneth said, narrowing his eyes at Victoria. “It’ll all come together in due time. But, for now, I require patience. If we want this plan to work, we need the Alpha King on our side. I’ve already arranged a meeting with him. Isabelle and I will go and see him now.”
Isabelle’s eyes widened.
“We will?” She asked, peeking up at her father.
She hoped this didn’t get back to Henry because she knew he would be upset with her for making another plan against Maeve. She worried if she went around speaking ill about her, then it could ruin everything Isabelle had worked so hard for.
“Yes,” he told her with finality. He turned back to Victoria. “I will seek you out if I need your assistance with anything further.”
She nodded, trying to keep in her excitement.
He turned with Isabelle on his heel and they both walked out of the dungeon, leaving Victoria alone with Sarah.
“Do you think this plan will work?” Sarah asked, doubt written all over her face.
Victoria turned to her daughter and gave her a soft smile.
“It has to,” she said with a sigh. “We need to put our trust in Alpha Kenneth if we want to pull this off. I need you to trust me.”
Sara nodded.
“I trust you, Mom,” she said gently.
Not before long, the guards who had wandered to different parts of the dungeon had returned to this section. Victoria had paid them to leave for a little while so she could speak with a visitor; she also paid them to give her extra visiting time with her daughter and to keep this section of the dungeon private.
“Time is up,” one of the guards said. “You need to leave now Victoria.”
She scowled and then turned to her daughter.
“I’ll be back tomorrow,” she assured her.
Sarah had tears in her eyes, not wanting her mother to leave her alone in this nasty and cruel place, but she nodded and wiped at her moist cheeks.
“Okay,” she murmured.
After they said their goodbyes, Victoria left and returned home to Moonstone. Just before she reached the front door of her home, her phone started to ring in her purse. She sighed and reached for it; she frowned when she saw Bella’s name flash across the screen.
“Why are you calling me?” Victoria growled into the phone, careful not to be too loud knowing Burton was only inside.
“I haven’t heard from you in a while, and I was wondering if there was anything more to the plan?” She asked. “You know… the plan to take everything from Maeve and force her out of the royal family?”
Victoria rolled her eyes.
“If I needed you for anything, I would have called you,” Victoria stated simply. “We have it all handled for right now. Alpha Kenneth is on our side and soon, the Alpha King will also be on our side.”
Bella sucked in a sharp breath; she was shocked so many of the high powers were on their side.
“Are you sure we can trust them?”
“It’s not for you to be concerned about,” Victoria told her. “Soon, Maeve will be out of the picture for good. That’s all I care about. If I need something, I’ll let you know.”
She hung up the phone without saying another word and shoved it back into her purse. She straightened her posture and forced a smile on her face before stepping into the house and shutting the door behind her.
She froze when she saw Burton pacing the living room, his face red with fury. Her heart hammered against her chest as she watched her husband's anger rolling off him in waves.
“Where were you?” He asked her through his teeth.
She was shocked by his question; sure, it was late, but he never seemed to care about stuff like that in the past.
“I was visiting with Sarah,” she told him, putting her purse on the table. “Is everything okay?”
“Don’t play stupid with me, Victoria. I know when something is up. We are mates, remember? I can feel when you are up to something, and you are definitely up to something.”
She rolled her eyes; not wanting to entertain this conversation.
“You are paranoid, Burton,” she told him as she started towards the kitchen.
“I’m serious, Victoria,” he said, following after her. “What are you up to?”
“Nothing,” she said simply, trying to keep her temper under control. “I’m not up to anything. I was only visiting with our daughter. She’s going crazy in that dungeon, Burton. We need to do something to get her out of there.”
“I doubt that’ll happen anytime soon,” he said, shaking his head.
She turned to look at him, narrowing her eyes.
“Then perhaps we need some outside help,” she told him.
His eyes grew wide; he knew she was up to something, and he also knew she wasn’t going to breathe a word about it. Eventually, he ran his fingers through his hair and sighed.
“Whatever you are up to, Victoria, you should stop. I don’t need you causing trouble right now,” he murmured before he turned and walked away, leaving Victoria alone with a smirk creeping across her lips.
Meanwhile, Kenneth and Isabelle go to the King’s office as scheduled and speak with him about Maeve. At first, Isabelle had no idea how Kenneth was going to turn the King against Maeve, but then realization dawned on her just as Kenneth started to speak.
“I found something out today, and I think you should know about it,” Kenneth told him.
“I’m listening,” King Arlan said, leaning back in his seat.
“Alpha Burton had an affair many years ago,” Kenneth told him. “With a human woman.”
King Arlan’s eyes darkened at the mention of a human woman.
“And how do you know this?” He asked.
“His Luna Mistress, Victoria,” Kenneth answered. “She was rather upset about the ordeal. This affair resulted in a child…”
Arlan leaned forward in his chair and narrowed his eyes.
“A child?”
Kenneth nodded.
“Yes, Your Majesty,” Kenneth replied. “Maeve…”
Arlan let out a low and deadly growl that sent a chill down Isabelle’s spine. She had seen him angry before, but she had never been this close to him while he was angry before. She was almost tempted to escape the room, but she wanted to watch her father’s plan unfold.
“Maeve is not Victoria’s daughter?” Arlan asked through his teeth.
“No, Your Majesty.”
Arlan’s aura darkened even more, and his rage rolled off him in waves.
“Then where the hell did she come from?!”
