Chapter 6 CHAPTER 6

CASSIE'S POV

The most popular boy in the entire school is my mate. No, wait, the future Alpha of the strongest Pack in the entire West division is my mate!

“Shit! Shit! Shit! How the heck am I mated to an Alpha of all people?!” I screamed in my head, the mere thought of the power struggles, the expectations, the possibility of being powerless again with the hell I'm currently going through overwhelming me.

I ran like my life depended on it but I had to pause, I was running out of breath because my wolf had receded back inside again.

Her presence was still there but she probably only jumped up in excitement at meeting him and is still too weak to be permanently present.

“Ugh, if it wasn't for Penelope being such an ass, I would have been in class and none of this would have happened. Oh who am I kidding? He's an alpha, he's got the strongest nose in this entire building and would have tracked me down regardless.”

Another reason why I stopped running. I'll just have to tell him I can't do this. I can't be roped into Pack life again, not after everything we went through.

My Mum was such a strong woman but I'm nothing like her, I'm taking every crap my stepfather pours on me and I don't even fight back.

When my uncle chased us out, she fought hard.

She reminded him of how much my father, his big brother, had protected him from their father, and gave him a position in the Pack when most Alphas would have chased him out to avoid competition.

But the second my father died in an accident, he claimed the throne even before his body was buried in the ground.

And regardless of how much my mom fought, we became rogues that night in the pouring rain.

I was four.

I'm not half as strong as she is so I didn't know why the moon goddess would attach me to someone like that. I wanted peace, not political gatherings that demanded my presence.

It's funny because this morning, I was hoping I'd meet my mate, a normal, every day guy that I could move in with, start my life afresh and actually pursue my dreams of being a doctor.

But an Alpha?

He's way beyond my reach, his people will probably see right through my weakness the second he presents me to them, if he doesn't reject me by himself anyway. I mean, I was literally going to school with a dress that tore just because Penelope touched it, that's how worn it was.

“I should probably get to class, sitting here and moping around will only get me into trouble,” I muttered under my breath as I stood up from where I sat to breathe.

But I guess I should have kept it moving right from the beginning because that delicious, mind altering scent wafted into my nose again and I knew I'd have to face him.

“I've been looking for you,” he said from behind me, “why did you run?”

I folded my arms, I still had a tint of redness on my arm from yesterday and I didn't have answers to anybody's questions.

I never got them before now but something tells me this Alpha would be quite nosy.

“I'm late for class,” I replied, looking down.

Even his shoes screamed class and sophistication, something that was far away from my life.

“I understand but you didn't have to run away from me. I mean… don't you feel this?” He asked, his voice softer, just as his thumb nudged my jaw upwards, forcing me to look at his face.

He had the face of a god, refined, clean and warm. The type you'd want to wake up to every morning. I had the intense urge to run my fingers through his dark hair, to feel the softness of it and to watch him melt into my body.

I shook off the thought. He wasn't mine to have anyway.

I moved back from him, ignoring the pain that crossed his eyes.

“I feel it but… I can't. We can't..”

“We can't do what? Be together? Why not?”

‘Why did he want to make me say it out loud?’ I groaned in my head.

“I think the moon goddess made a mistake. You need a stronger Luna.”

“Woah woah, calm down,” he chimed, coming closer to me again, his scent wrapping me up so tight I could barely hear the bell ring. “Look, I'm sure it's the shock of the moment. It's happening too soon and I can smell you've been away from Pack life for a while so I totally understand. What about I come get you for lunch?”

“Um.. I don't think –”

“Please?” He begged, making a face I doubt anyone could say no.

Gosh! He's so damn hot and yet puppy eyes he was making had me fumbling almost too soon.

“O–kaay,” I whispered, a small smile creeping to my red cheeks.

“Yes!” He pumped the air, “Sorry, that was supposed to happen in my head. I'll see you at lunch okay?”

“Alright,” I whispered and stepped forward right as he did the same and we both rammed into each other.

Not hard enough to hurt but our bodies collided and even though I felt the pain from my healing bruises, I didn't register it properly.

I was feeling everything else.

The electric sparks, the warmth, the wave of his scent and my wolf's purring sound in my head. He lifted his arms and began slowly wrapping it around me, his eyes closed as our heads stayed connected.

“Damn, Detention!” I swore in my head, remembering yesterday like a flash.

“Sorry, I have to go!” I exclaimed, jumping out of his embrace and dashing off to class.

And just as my pretty luck would have it, Mr. Spencer was already in class.

I tried walking in with my head down, but my seat was all the way at the back and the small chuckles at my presence made it an impossible task.

He cleared his throat, stopping me in my tracks.

“Do you have a pass, young lady?”

“No sir,” I replied, turning around.

“Well you should know it's wrong to come to class,” he checked his watch, “ten minutes late. Detention!”

My heart beat faster as I walked back to my seat.

I could feel the tears about to drop but I dare not cry, not here.

I blamed myself for this, I should have kept running. Why the hell did I stop running?

I just got my wolf back because of this mate bond, she's not even communicating properly yet and now, if I didn't do something about it, he's going to beat her out of me.
