Chapter 6 The omega...... I want her

/Nelson/

The smell of roasted meat and freshly baked bread filled the dining hall the next morning, but I barely tasted any of it.

My mind was still where it had been all night caught between the memory of golden eyes and the feel of her pulse beneath my fingers.

I sat at the long wooden table beside Alpha James and his Beta, while a few other ranked members joined us. The morning meeting was supposed to be about strategy border defense, witch activity, reinforcing the east flank  but all I could smell was her.

Even though she wasn’t here, her scent lingered faintly in the air, like she’d been serving breakfast not long before we arrived.

“...the witches attacked again near the creek,” James was saying, snapping me back to the present. “Two guards were injured. We barely pushed them back before dawn. They’re getting bolder, Supreme Alpha.”

I nodded slowly, my gaze fixed on the map spread across the table. “That’s because they’re testing your boundaries,” I said, tracing the borderlines with my finger. “They know your men are spread thin, and they can smell your fatigue. You’ll need layered patrols, and you’ll have to stop sending the same wolves in the same rotations. They’re using dark scent cloaks old witchcraft. Predictable patrols are a death sentence.”

James frowned. “I can have my Beta reorganize shifts today, but our men are exhausted. We’ve lost four this week alone.”

“Then I’ll station some of my elite guards here for reinforcement before leaving later today,” I said. “But I’ll need full access to your patrol routes and command hierarchy.”

The Beta hesitated. “Full access, Supreme Alpha?”

I leaned back in my chair, tone calm but firm. “If I’m going to fix your problem, I’ll do it my way. No divided command. I don’t work halfway.”

James nodded after a pause, though I could see the flicker of discomfort in his eyes. “You’ll have it. And… thank you. It’s not every day the Supreme Alpha offers his own men to protect another pack.”

I didn’t respond immediately. Instead, I took a slow sip of my coffee, letting the silence stretch a heartbeat too long.

When I finally looked at him, my tone dropped a shade lower.

“But if I’m giving you my full support,” I said evenly, “I want something in return.”

James blinked, caught off guard. “Something… in return?”

His Beta shifted in his seat, wary. “Of course, Supreme Alpha. What is it you require?”

James forced a polite smile. “If it’s an alliance through family… well, my daughter—”

I cut him off before he could finish. “Not your daughter.” why does he think i want his daughter...? I asked myself before looking back at him.

The look on his face was almost comical  a mix of confusion and the slightest relief. “Then what..."

“I want the omega from last night,” I said simply.

The room went still. Forks stopped clinking. Even the Beta froze mid-motion.

James frowned deeply. “The omega?” he repeated. “You mean… Edie?”

“Yes,” I said, keeping my tone flat. “I want her transferred to my pack.”

For a moment, he just stared at me, like he was trying to make sure I wasn’t joking. Then he laughed short and awkward. “You can’t be serious. Edie? The girl barely speaks unless spoken to. She’s harmless, quiet wolfless, even. What use could she possibly be to the Supreme Alpha?”

I gave him a look that made his laughter die instantly. “That’s not your concern,” I said quietly. “I don’t explain my reasons. I only make my offers once.”

James hesitated, clearly unsure whether to be flattered or alarmed. “Supreme Alpha, with all due respect… Edie’s not that type of girl. She’s loyal, yes, and hardworking, but she’s… odd. Always off on her own. Talks to herself sometimes. Once, she ironed an entire stack of laundry folded it all neatly and then realized she’d forgotten to plug in the iron.”

The Beta tried not to snort, but failed. James sighed and continued, “She’s… different. The pack tolerates her because she’s quiet and never causes trouble, but she’s not leadership material. Not mate material either, if that’s what you’re thinking.”

I didn’t bother correcting him. “That’s not what I’m thinking,” I said simply, though my wolf growled at the lie.

James rubbed his chin, uneasy. “You could have any female you wanted in any pack. Why her? Is this about loyalty? A favor? I can offer trained fighters, healers, even scholars, but not—”

“Alpha,” I interrupted, my voice steady but sharp. “I said I want her.”

He looked at me for a long moment, then leaned back, trying to gauge my expression. Finally, he exhaled. “She’s not going to make this easy. She doesn’t like attention. She’ll probably try to refuse.”

“That’s fine,” I said, rising from the table. “I don’t need her to like it. I just need her in my territory.”

The Beta exchanged a look with James, both clearly unsettled by how certain I sounded.

As I turned to leave, I caught the faintest whiff of her scent again that impossible mix of wild wolf, ancient power, and something darker that coiled under my skin.

Sunny stirred inside me, his voice deep and low.

She’s maybe ours. You’re not leaving without her.

“I wasn’t planning to,” I muttered under my breath, my lips curving just slightly.

James exhaled, rubbing the back of his neck as silence hung thick between us. His gaze flicked between me and the map, like he was weighing something heavier than territory.

Finally, he nodded once, slow but certain.

“If that’s your request, Supreme Alpha… then so be it.”

He glanced at his Beta before continuing, voice lower now, edged with reluctant acceptance.

“I’ll have her pack her things immediately and be ready to leave with you later in the day.”

The words landed like a stone in still water.

Sunny’s tail flicked in satisfaction in my head, a low hum of approval vibrating through my chest. Good. Ours soon.

I ignored him mostly. Instead, I just nodded, keeping my face unreadable even as my pulse spiked with something sharp and restless.

“Make sure she’s informed properly,” I said. “I don’t want her thinking she’s being taken by force.”

James gave a wry smile. “That might be difficult. She’s… spirited, that one. Doesn’t take orders easily, especially from anyone she doesn’t trust.”

My jaw tightened before I could help it. “Then she’ll learn to.”

He hesitated again, studying me like he was trying to read past my words. “You’ve taken a strange interest in that girl,” he said finally. “Most overlook her completely. You, on the other hand… I can’t tell if you’re trying to protect her or claim her.”

I met his gaze evenly. “Maybe both.”

That seemed to throw him off more than anything I’d said so far. He chuckled softly, shaking his head. “Well, whatever your reason, you’ll find she’s full of surprises. Once, she brought home a half-dead fox, fed it, patched it up, and then cried for three days when it bit her and ran off.”

I didn’t smile not outwardly but something in my chest loosened slightly. That… sounded like her.

James sighed, leaning back in his chair. “She’s quiet, but she has a wildness that doesn’t fit here. Maybe she’ll do better under your command. Goddess knows I’ve never been able to figure her out.”

I inclined my head in acknowledgment. “Then maybe it’s time someone did.”

He nodded slowly, and the meeting broke soon after. But even as I left the hall, the weight of his words lingered.

Outside, the morning light cut through the trees, catching the silver edges of the forest mist. My guards were already preparing for departure, their dark uniforms sharp against the pale air.

But my thoughts weren’t on logistics or battle strategy anymore. They were on her. The omega who fought me like a predator. The girl whose scent made my wolf bow and snarl in the same breath. The one who’d soon be riding beside me whether she wanted to or not. and i genuinely hope she wants to though beacause i can't imagine her been forced by me...

Sunny stretched inside my chest, his voice low and pleased.

She’ll fight you for it, you know.

“I’m counting on it,” I murmured, allowing the faintest smirk to tug at the corner of my lips.

Because if there was one thing I’d learned about Edlyn just by our little moment together last night…

it was that she never went quietly. She too strong for an omega and the pull i feel around her is something that feels new, even my wolf is taken with her considering she isn’t even our mates.
