Chapter 4 Sold To Him

Evelyn’s POV

I still couldn’t believe that I had just escaped him. I burst out of the hospital building, still panting, the cool night breeze striking my face as relief washed over me. I had managed to pull my dress back on, clutching my phone so tight.

My eyes darted around, watching to be sure none of his men was after me. Just like that, I ran out entirely from the environment until I came across a cab, to which I gave directions to my house.

When I got home, there were noises coming out of the living room, and I couldn’t help but wonder who my uncle could be talking to at this time of the night.

I pushed the entrance door, peeked in, and without seeing anyone, made my way to my room. My heart was still pounding as I tiptoed, avoiding coming in contact with anyone.

“Evelyn.” Uncle Charles’ voice stilled me from behind.

I slowly turned to meet him. And that was when my whole body went rigid.

It was him again.The devil.

Lorenzo Scolfield.

Grinning mischievously like he owned the whole world.

My body froze, the pounding sound from my heart aching in my head.

What on earth could he be doing here?

How did he find me?

My uncle smiled at me. “Come here, girl.” He waved at me.

I dragged myself to where they sat across the living room, doing everything humanly possible to avoid Lorenzo’s gaze.

I stood in front of my uncle, trembling.

His hands curled around my wrist, drawing me closer like a mother trying to introduce her child to a distant family member.

“Do you recognize these men?” He pointed at Lorenzo and his two guards, who stood like logs of dry wood beside him without moving.

“I…I’m not sure.” I breathed shakily.

Uncle Charles smiled at me. “Well, he is here for you, and he said he wants to make you his.”

“What?!” I lunged out.

“Make me his? As in I’m now a toy or what?”

I turned to Lorenzo, who was still sitting emotionless, unmoved by whatever I had to say.

Uncle Charles tilted his head. “No Eve, he is just asking for your hand in…”

“Marriage…?!”

Lorenzo burst out, a mixture of laughter and disgust. He stood up and came to where I was standing, his hands deep in his pockets, eyes rolling over my body.

“No, little human,” he scoffed. “I’m not the marriage type.”

“So you are what?” I spat. “Do you want to keep me as your mistress, or you wish to keep me as your slave?”

He bit his lip, the line that ran through his jaw throbbing. “You have a sharp mouth. I will give it to you, but I promise to tape it for you.”

Uncle Charles caught how he was about to lose it. “No, no, no. You don’t have to be angry at the poor girl. Let me handle this carefully.”

I turned to him. “Handle what, Uncle?”

Uncle Charles gritted his teeth, knotting his hands into fists, his eyes boring into mine. “Eve, you will have to follow him.”

I crossed my arms around my chest, shifting my weight to one leg. “Can you give me one damn reason why I should obey you right now?”

“Because he already gave me a huge amount of money!”

“Jezzzzz”

I scoffed bitterly, tilting my head. “He gave you money? And you took it?”

Releasing myself as I threw a finger at him. “You didn’t even bother to hear from me first. You don’t even care if this is what I want or not.”

Uncle Charles shook his head. “I don’t give a bloody damn about what you want, Evelyn!” The words echoed right into my head.

I had always known him to be heartless, but I never knew he would go as far as to trade me to the same man who took the life of his brother, my father.

If I had not known him from when I was little, I would have sworn that we were never in any way related.

Since the incident that took my family’s life, leaving just me and my autistic sister Daisy, it’s been hell for me.

All he did was take away the little money that I had managed to make, promising he will use it for Daisy’s treatment.

But whenever I investigate, I would only find out that he had spent all the money gambling.

And now I’m certain that is the only reason for him selling me off, as if I am nothing to him.

I squirmed, fighting back the tears trying to stream down from my eyes. “I’m supposed to be your child too…”

He rolled his eyes. “Stop being too dramatic and just go with him.”

“I should just go with him, you say? Will you keep acting like you don’t recognize this face?” I pointed at Lorenzo. “Wsan’t he the same man that killed…..”

Uncle Charles did not let me finish and stormed toward me. His palm covered my mouth from speaking further.

I broke from him, my heart beating too fast. “Uncle, please…I’m too young for this. Don’t let my first man be someone as cruel as him.”

“Oh, stop it Eve. You will be turning twenty-one soon.”

I shook my head. “Is that enough? This man here could be forty-five, almost close to your age, and you find it appealing to sell me off to him?”

“You will get used to him,” Uncle Charles said, his tone sounding like a final decision.

My head moved to where Lorenzo was standing, amused. As if he were watching his favorite K-drama family series unfold before him.

“No, I can’t do this.” I shut my eyes, shaking my head in disagreement.

“If you still value Daisy’s life, you have to do this for her,” Uncle Charles spoke again.

“I don’t need his bloody money for my sister to survive.”

“No dear, not because of his money. You will do it because I said so. And if you don’t…I will suspend all her treatment.”

I moved desperately to where he was standing. “You can’t do that.”

He tugged his lips with a smile that I was certain was fake. “Watch me.”

My gaze followed him as he went to take his seat, uninterested in whatever I had to say further.

I drifted my head to Lorenzo. “What the hell do you want from me?”

He shook his head, his red eyes shining darker than before. “You took away something from me, and I’m here for it.”

God.

Am I going insane?

“Took what from you?”

He leaned closer to my ear. “Your touch..…it stole my power.”

Another drama.

This man deserves to be in the psychiatric ward receiving treatment.

“What touch are you talking about?!”

His lips tugged with an evil smirk. “You will find out when you come with me.”

He gripped my wrist so tight my head snapped up to meet his. “Get your hands off me!”

He did not let go.

I slapped his hand again and again, screaming at my uncle for help, but he sat there, unflinching, with no sign of remorse showing on his face.
