Chapter 5
Mia's POV
"Move in with you?" I asked, nearly shrieking the words as I repeated them to Enzo "Are you taking crazy pills?!"
I watched as Enzo furrowed his brow, and I had to admit my words probably sounded quite offensive "I have my own place to live, Enzo," I said, backtracking "And you wouldn't want to live with me," I laughed nervously "I'm messy and I eat really smelly food,"
I watched Enzo's mouth twitch at the side as he made an attempt not to laugh. "I do not take, what you call, crazy pills," He said "I promised James I would take good care of you while you're over here,"
"It seems a bit extreme to go all that way for me," I said, trying desperately to talk Enzo out of his idea. But the more I thought about it, the more appealing living with him sounded.
My apartment was small, and I was already finding myself with little room for all the clothes I was treating myself to. Perhaps I could convince Enzo to not charge me any rent, you know, I could cook for him. I doubt he would appreciate my American palette though.
I found myself becoming swept away by the idea of living with Enzo Renault. I imagined with his status he would live in a giant house with the finest carpets and wine collection known to any French man.
But I knew I had to remove those ideas from my mind. I was refusing to live with Enzo Renault, we could barely work together without annoying the hell out of one another. Today was a prime example. How would we live under the same room without tearing each other to pieces?
"Mia..." Enzo said with a sigh "Let me give you a lift back to your apartment and we can talk about this on the way,"
"Sure," I said with a casual shrug. I was incredibly bored with looking at those files already, and if I could get a ride home, that wasn't something I would pass up.
It didn't take long for Enzo to get me home. He took me in his Lamborgini, and I'm fairly sure he didn't stick to the speed laws most of the way. But I figured with Enzo being who he is, his social status, the Police would allow him a free pass any day of the week.
"Come in," I said, inviting Enzo in. As we entered my apartment, the stench of last night's take out hung in the air. I swiftly ran across the floor of the living room, sweeping up clothing and bits of trash left on the floor. "I told you I was messy," I said with a grin as I watched Enzo's eyes study my apartment.
"It's uhhh...cute," Enzo said, making an attempt to compliment my living space, which I thought was quite adorable.
I grinned at Enzo, and as I took a deep breath I was going to offer for him to take a seat on the stained sofa, and reveal my decision to the opportunity he had offered me.
Before I could do any of that, Enzo's phone rang.
"Excuse me," Enzo said, holding his hand up "I have to take this, its my Mother," he sighed, looking at his phone screen as though he hesitated to take the call "She will send me to Hell if I ignore her,"
I nodded, and tried to make myself look busy as Enzo took his phone call. When in reality, I just wanted to earwig on his conversation with his Mother. Enzo seemed to get wind of what I was doing, and he removed himself from the apartment and stood out in the corridor.
I was kind of disappointed, but nonetheless this would give me a few spare minutes to make my apartment look better than its current state. So I quickly swept across the living room, and into the kitchenette to clean up any leftover mess. I quickly sprayed the air with some air freshener to try and mask the greasy pizza stench, but the fruity aroma just blended in with the old pizza.
Enzo entered the apartment not long after, and his face had fallen sullen and he had frustration in his eyes "Apologies for that disruption, my Mother is always asking me for advice on the most trivial things," He rolled his eyes, before pushing his phone back into his pocket "Now, what were you saying?"
"I was saying," I took a deep breath "Enzo, I am a big girl, I can take care of myself. As lovely as the offer to move in with you it, I feel like that's not the right decision for me,"
"That's fair enough Mia," Enzo responded with a hint of disappointment in his tone "But you need to be careful, and ensure you allow my security to look out for you from now on,"
I nodded, feeling like a child "Sure," I said, and it was then I gave a fake yawn "Oh gosh, I am so tired, today was exhausting," I paused, my eyes directing to the front door. I just needed Enzo to leave now before he put any more pressure on me "I think I'm going for a nap, so you should..."
My words were disturbed by a knock on the door, and the sound of something being pushed under the door. I peered over, and saw the neatly folded up piece of paper on my rug.
Enzo got up swiftly, entering protective mode, he went toward the door and picked up the note. Enzo opened it without any hesitation and read the words to himself before saying anything out loud.
"What is it?" I asked, feeling my skin pimple through the fear of seeing how Enzo's face reacted to the note "Is it him again? Is it from Matt?" I had a gut feeling that I was right, who else would send me a note like that?
Enzo nodded "Yes Mia, it's from Matt," he paused, about to pull the door open and I could sense his rage "Enzo!" I said, "Don't go after him, please! You could get hurt!"
I didn't want to cause a fuss, and the last thing I wanted was Enzo harmed "Leave him, he isn't worth it,"
Enzo turned to me, and began to walk toward me. His strides were long and his eyes determined and as he stood before me, I could feel his breath on my face. Our eyes met, intense as we stared at one another and I could feel my heart racing in my chest as he looked at me.
"Mia..." Enzo said with determination in his voice "You ARE moving in with me."
