Chapter 5

Matthew walked into the bathroom, having no intention of dealing with Sophie anymore.

In the quiet room, Sophie touched her throat, really thinking he was going to strangle her at that moment.

He didn't need to say anything. She would stay far away from him on her own.

She moved toward the darkness nearby, sighing to herself that the path to becoming a rich woman was clearly blocked.

When Matthew came out of the bathroom, he glanced toward the door. She wasn't in her original spot.

He thought she had left, but after walking a few more steps, he saw her hiding in the shadows.

Sophie was sitting on the floor messaging Emily on Facebook.

Emily knew she was sharing a room with Matthew tonight and couldn't help worrying about her situation.

Sophie took a photo of the floor and sent it to Emily.

Sophie: [Don't worry, I want to touch his heart even more now.]

Right after sending it, she heard a faint sound.

She looked up to see Matthew wearing gray pajamas, the collar open, revealing a neck so pale it would make women jealous, with a sexy Adam's apple.

His hair was still damp, and the lazy look when he lowered his eyes was just like a noble cat, handsome and charming.

His features were really good-looking, the kind of good-looking you couldn't find fault with.

Having a man like this as a husband, just looking at him was worth it.

"You should get some rest early." Sophie thought about his poor health and politely made small talk.

Matthew walked straight to the bed without even glancing at her, pulled back the covers, got in bed, and turned off the light directly.

Sophie was speechless.

In the huge bedroom, Sophie was like a stray cat that had wandered into someone else's home. The original resident didn't like her, so she could only hide in the dark corner, making herself as invisible as possible.

Sophie suddenly lost the desire to share with Emily.

From Matthew's perspective, what he was doing was perfectly fine.

If it were her, she'd probably call the police.

Leaning against the wall sitting down, the room had heating, so at least it wasn't cold.

She put down her phone. Being in this unfamiliar place, sharing a room with someone who was her husband but whom she didn't really know. It felt very strange.

Thinking back on what had happened these past few days, it was like a dream, making her want to laugh but with some bitterness mixed in.

Sophie sighed quietly and closed her eyes.

An old saying floated through her mind: The path you choose, you have to walk it even on your knees.

Sophie woke up from the cold.

When she woke, she hadn't been carried to bed by the master, and there was no blanket covering her. None of those warm things happened.

The man was completely heartless.

Matthew had already washed up and dressed, standing not far away saying, "There are clean clothes in the bathroom. Clean yourself up properly, don't let people think I bullied you."

Sophie rubbed her nose and couldn't help but sneeze.

Would he even care what others think?

She held onto the wall to stand up. Her legs were numb from sitting so long, her waist ached, and her neck hurt.

Matthew watched coldly as she struggled to walk into the bathroom, a strange emotion rising in his heart for once.

He probably hadn't expected she would actually sit on the floor all night.

She married him but kept her distance, at least she knew her place.

Suddenly, his phone rang.

Looking at the caller, he glanced toward the bathroom.

His finger slid to answer.

"Matthew, I fell." From the phone came Sophie's choked voice.

Matthew frowned. Just when he thought she knew her place, she was causing trouble. "If you fell, get up."

Sophie was in so much pain her eyes were watering, and hearing this heartless remark, tears immediately fell.

If she could get up, would she be calling him?

"I can't move." Sophie sniffled, her voice nasal.

When she was taking off her pants standing on one foot, she must have pulled something wrong. Her leg went soft and she fell.

Luckily she grabbed around and managed to pull her phone down to the floor, otherwise she'd really be shouting herself hoarse.

The man's heartless words suddenly made her feel wronged, but she couldn't blame anyone else.

The other end of the phone was silent. Sophie could guess the man wanted to say she deserved it.

"Matthew..." Sophie called out again.

Sophie heard a sound, then the call disconnected.

Just when she thought there was no hope, the bathroom door opened.

Matthew looked at the woman lying on the floor with a dark expression, his displeasure showing.

She was only wearing a black bra on top, exposing a large expanse of pale skin, and on the bottom one leg was still wrapped in jeans while the other was exposed.

He had never seen such an awkward and unseemly sight.

Sophie knew how she must look right now.

She didn't want this either, but it had already happened.

Being stared at by Matthew like this, she also felt embarrassed, her face burning uncomfortably.

"I really can't get up." To prove she wasn't lying, Sophie braced her hands on the floor, trying to lift her waist, but moving even a little made tears pour out from the pain.

Matthew's eyes darkened slightly. He bent down and lifted her body with both arms.

The moment his hands touched her body, his throat tightened. Suppressing that strange feeling in his heart, he carried her out of the bathroom without looking sideways and placed her on the bed.

Sophie couldn't care that this was his bed. She pulled the covers over herself and said thank you.

She had never been this embarrassed before.

She could have fallen anywhere, just not in his bathroom, and not with her clothes off.

The only fortunate thing was she hadn't stripped completely.

Sophie bit her lip, too mortified to speak for a moment.

Matthew took out his phone and made a call.

"Come to the Moore Mansion... it's not me... yeah."

After hanging up, Matthew glanced at the woman who had pulled the covers over herself to hide.

Thinking of her lying in his bed half-dressed, his brows furrowed.

This woman really knew how to cause trouble.

After a moment of silence, Sophie guessed he had called a doctor for her. She slowly pulled back the covers, her voice nasal, "Could you help me get some clothes?"

Matthew stood without moving.

"If someone sees me like this in a bit..." Sophie bit her lip, "In name, I'm your wife. And I'm in your bed..."

"Shut up."

Matthew went to the bathroom and came out with a set of women's loungewear, tossing it to Sophie.

Sophie had seen before that there was a large walk-in closet in the bathroom with all kinds of toiletries, women's underwear and loungewear. Everything you could need.

All carefully prepared.

Sophie took the clothes and reached to put on the top, but the pants were really hard to put on.

Her waist hurt and she couldn't lift her legs, so she couldn't get the pants on.

She could only look at Matthew.

Matthew understood what she wanted from her eyes.

"Please help me." Sophie really wasn't doing this on purpose. She genuinely couldn't move.

This kind of thing, it was her first time too.

"Or you could call Evelyn."

Matthew finally approached the bed and, not exactly gently, pulled the covers aside, fully exposing her body.
