The Assassin's Guide to High School
Abigail Hayes
Introduction
I am—or I was—Phantom. I killed for a living, and I was the best. But my retirement plan was cut short by a sudden darkness I never saw coming.
Fate, it seems, has a twisted sense of humor. I’ve been reincarnated into the body of Raven Martinez, a high school girl with a life so tragic it makes my old job look like a vacation.
Now I have to deal with pop quizzes, teenage hormones, and a hierarchy of bullies who think they run the world.
They pushed the old Raven to her death. But they’re about to learn a very painful lesson: You don't corner a viper unless you're ready to get bitten.
High school is hell. Lucky for me, I'm the devil.

Chapter 1
Phantom
The plane hummed with that particular frequency that made most people drowsy. Not me. I'd never felt more awake in my life.
Seat 12A. Window side. Perfect view of the endless blue stretching beneath us as we climbed toward cruising altitude. I pressed my fingers against the cool glass, watching the ground fall away, taking sixteen years of my life with it. Sixteen years of blood, precision, and a perfect success rate that made my name whispered in the darkest corners of the world.
Phantom.
God, what a ridiculous alias. Like I was supposed to haunt people or some poetic bullshit. But that's what you get when you let a bunch of dramatic assassins name you. The world's number one killer—one hundred percent success rate, zero room for error—and they'd given me a name that sounded like a bad superhero movie.
I smiled at my reflection in the window.
"You have such a lovely smile!" The woman beside me leaned over, her face lighting up with genuine warmth. Middle-aged, kind eyes, probably heading to LA to visit family. "Are you excited about this trip?"
My smile widened, all teeth and practiced perfection. Sixteen years of wearing masks had taught me exactly how to look harmless. "Yeah, I'm starting a new life."
If only you knew, I thought, maintaining that sweet expression while my mind supplied the rest: that this sweet smile belongs to the top-ranked assassin on the global hit list. That I could kill you seventeen different ways with the plastic coffee stirrer in your cup holder. That starting a new life meant betraying the most dangerous organization on the planet.
"How wonderful!" She squeezed my arm. "New beginnings are such a gift."
"Absolutely," I agreed, settling back into my seat.
The truth was simpler than anyone would believe. I wasn't leaving because killing had lost its appeal. I wasn't suffering from some sudden attack of conscience or moral awakening. No—killing had become too easy. Point, shoot, collect payment. Rinse and repeat until even the most elaborate contracts felt like checking items off a grocery list.
But adapting to normal society? Now that was a challenge worth taking. Learning to smile without calculating threat levels. Making small talk without profiling everyone in the room. Buying groceries, paying taxes, pretending to care about traffic jams—that was the real test of skill.
Plus, there was the minor detail of Bloodline definitely sending people to kill me for deserting. The thought sent a pleasant thrill down my spine. Finally, some excitement. Life was about to get interesting again.
The seatbelt sign dinked off. Around me, passengers relaxed into their seats, pulling out tablets and magazines. The woman beside me closed her eyes for a nap. I reached into my bag, fingers closing around the book I'd bought specifically for this trip.
"How to Integrate into Society: A Practical Guide."
I was three pages in, genuinely fascinated by a chapter on appropriate conversation topics for workplace water coolers, when the first scream shattered the cabin's peace.
You've got to be fucking kidding me.
Six men burst from the bathroom area and front cabin, tactical vests strapped tight, weapons raised. Not just any weapons—MP5 submachine guns, if I wasn't mistaken. Professional grade. The leader, a man with a scar bisecting his left eyebrow, fired a warning shot into the ceiling that had everyone screaming and diving for cover.
I couldn't believe my luck. I was trying to leave this life behind, and here it was, following me onto a commercial flight.
"Nobody move!" Scar-face bellowed, his voice carrying over the chaos. "Everyone stays calm, nobody dies today. Maybe."
I turned the page of my book. Chapter three: maintaining appropriate personal boundaries in social situations.
The woman beside me grabbed my sleeve, her face pale with terror. "Little sister, get down! Hide behind the seat!"
Little sister? Don't let this innocent face fool you, lady. But I kept that thought to myself and continued reading. The chapter was actually quite informative.
"Did you hear me?" She yanked harder on my arm, genuine panic in her voice. "Please, you have to hide!"
I appreciated the concern, truly. But after sixteen years of professional killing, hijacking scenarios ranked somewhere between mildly interesting and Tuesday afternoon on my concern scale. A few armed men shouting threats? That barely qualified as an inconvenience.
The crack of a gunshot made the woman beside me sob. A passenger three rows up slumped forward, blood spreading across his business shirt. The cabin erupted into fresh screams.
"Listen up!" Scar-face stalked down the aisle, his boots heavy against the cabin floor. "I know we have a Bloodline operative on this plane. Phantom, to be specific." He said my name like it was poison. "You stole something that belongs to us. The Satan's Heart. So why don't you make this easy and show yourself?"
Silence descended, broken only by muffled crying and the steady hum of the engines.
I flipped another page. This section on gift-giving etiquette was surprisingly complex.
Scar-face and his men began moving through the cabin, checking faces, pulling people up from their seats. They focused on the men—broad shoulders, military bearing, anyone who looked remotely capable of violence. Every few rows, another confrontation. Another gunshot. Another body.
Blood spattered across the overhead compartments. The cabin reeked of gunpowder and fear.
The woman beside me had her eyes squeezed shut, lips moving in silent prayer.
"Interesting," I murmured, still absorbed in my book. "Apparently you're supposed to write thank-you notes within two weeks. Who knew social norms were so specific?"

The Biker Alpha Who Became My Second Chance Mate
"You're like a sister to me."
Those were the actual words that broke the camel's back.
Not after what just happened. Not after the hot, breathless, soul-shaking night we spent tangled in each other's arms.
I knew from the beginning that Tristan Hayes was a line I shouldn't cross.
He wasn't just anyone, he was my brother's best friend. The man I spent years secretly wanting.
But that night... we were broken. We had just buried our parents. And the grief was too heavy, too real...so I begged him to touch me.
To make me forget. To fill the silence that death left behind.
And he did. He held me like I was something fragile.
Kissed me like I was the only thing he needed to breathe.
Then left me bleeding with six words that burned deeper than rejection ever could.
So, I ran. Away from everything that cost me pain.
Now, five years later, I'm back.
Fresh from rejecting the mate who abused me. Still carrying the scars of a pup I never got to hold.
And the man waiting for me at the airport isn't my brother.
It's Tristan.
And he's not the guy I left behind.
He's a biker.
An Alpha.
And when he looked at me, I knew there was no where else to run to.
Accidentally Yours
Lola Marlowe’s morning-after is a disaster. She’s got a killer hangover, zero memory of Burning Man, and a half-naked, sculpted stranger tied to her bed with her own lavender silk ropes. To make matters infinitely worse, the furious (and frustratingly handsome) “accidental hostage” is Enzo Marchesi, Vegas’s most notorious mafia Don.
For Enzo, this is the ultimate security breach. But the fiery, unpredictable tattoo artist is the most intriguing thing to happen to him in years. To stop his crew from “neutralizing” the threat, he makes an impulsive claim: she’s his fiancée.
Thrust into a world of high-stakes lies and feral attraction, they must navigate rival families and their own explosive chemistry.
One wrong move sparked it. Now neither of them wants out.
Rise of the Banished She-Wolf
That roar stole my eighteenth birthday and shattered my world. My first shift should have been glory—blood turned blessing into shame. By dawn they'd branded me "cursed": cast out by my pack, abandoned by family, stripped of my nature. My father didn't defend me—he sent me to a forsaken island where wolfless outcasts were forged into weapons, forced to kill each other until only one could leave.
On that island I learned the darkest edges of humanity and how to bury terror in bone. Countless times I wanted to surrender—dive into the waves and never surface—but the accusing faces that haunted my dreams pushed me back toward something colder than survival: revenge. I escaped, and for three years I hid among humans, collecting secrets, learning to move like a shadow, sharpening patience into precision—becoming a blade.
Then, under a full moon, I touched a bleeding stranger—and my wolf returned with a violence that made me whole. Who was he? Why could he wake what I'd thought dead?
One thing I know: now is the time.
I have waited three years for this. I will make everyone who destroyed me pay—and take back everything that was stolen from me.
The War God Alpha's Arranged Bride
Yet Alexander made his decision clear to the world: “Evelyn is the only woman I will ever marry.”
After the Affair: Falling into a Billionaire's Arms
On my birthday, he took her on vacation. On our anniversary, he brought her to our home and made love to her in our bed...
Heartbroken, I tricked him into signing divorce papers.
George remained unconcerned, convinced I would never leave him.
His deceptions continued until the day the divorce was finalized. I threw the papers in his face: "George Capulet, from this moment on, get out of my life!"
Only then did panic flood his eyes as he begged me to stay.
When his calls bombarded my phone later that night, it wasn't me who answered, but my new boyfriend Julian.
"Don't you know," Julian chuckled into the receiver, "that a proper ex-boyfriend should be as quiet as the dead?"
George seethed through gritted teeth: "Put her on the phone!"
"I'm afraid that's impossible."
Julian dropped a gentle kiss on my sleeping form nestled against him. "She's exhausted. She just fell asleep."
Falling for my boyfriend's Navy brother
"What is wrong with me?
Why does being near him make my skin feel too tight, like I’m wearing a sweater two sizes too small?
It’s just newness, I tell myself firmly.
He’s my boyfirend’s brother.
This is Tyler’s family.
I’m not going to let one cold stare undo that.

I hate girls like her.
Entitled.
Delicate.
And still—
Still.
The image of her standing in the doorway, clutching her cardigan tighter around her narrow shoulders, trying to smile through the awkwardness, won’t leave me.
Neither does the memory of Tyler. Leaving her here without a second thought.
I shouldn’t care.
I don’t care.
It’s not my problem if Tyler’s an idiot.
It’s not my business if some spoiled little princess has to walk home in the dark.
I’m not here to rescue anyone.
Especially not her.
Especially not someone like her.
She’s not my problem.
And I’ll make damn sure she never becomes one.
But when my eyes fell on her lips, I wanted her to be mine.
Invisible To Her Bully
The War God's Favorite
Cassandra jumped. Two Palace servants had entered the room just when she finished dressing.
"You wrench! Who is your master? Speak!"
"Lord... Lord the Third... Third Prince..." She stuttered despite the pain.
" You liar! Do you think we are stupid? The Third Prince doesn't bring any attendants! You lying whore! Show us your identification!"
They slapped Cassandra again, insulting her before they dragged her out.
"You slut! How dare you! How did you even survive the offering! And now to hide in a Prince's chamber! You slut! I'm going to finish you myself if you won't die! You..."
She had grabbed Cassandra's hair and started pulling her violently, but suddenly froze. Everyone in the Garden had heard it too.
A dragon's angry growl, right above their heads.

I squeezed my eyes shut.
"Dani," he pressed. "Do you get me?"
"No, Austin, I don't," I admitted as I pulled my robe closed again and sat up. "You confuse me."
He dragged his hands down his face. "Tell me what's on your mind."
I sighed. "You're everything my parents warned me against. You're secretive, but you're also honest. I feel wholly protected by you, but then you scare me more than anyone I've ever known. You're a bad boy, but when I dated a so-called good one, he turned out to be the devil, so, yeah, I don't get you because you're not what I expected. You drive me crazier than anyone I've ever met, but then you make me feel complete. I'm feeling things I don't quite know how to process and that makes me want to run. I don't want to give up something that might be really, really good, but I also don't want to be stupid and fall for a boy just because he's super pretty and makes me come."
