Chapter 59

Ivy’s POV

Everyone at the banquet saw how my brother reacted to Aurora falling from the balcony. He ran in like a wolf on fire. The anger I saw in his eyes was worse than anything I’ve ever seen from him.

Thorne is usually so composed, not showing his emotions, but with her, he changes. It’s disgusting. He reacted way more sensitively than I thought he would. You could say that he completely freaked out at the accident.

As it stands, Aurora and my brother are getting too close to each other, and I don’t like it. She’s after something, and I’m going to figure out what it is.

“Jackson, come here,” I call out when I notice him in the hallway outside my office. He pops his head in, grinning, until he notices my mood. Ever since Angeline complained to me earlier after her lunch with Thorne that he turned her down, I’ve been in a sour mood.

“What is it, baby?” He asks, perching on the edge of my desk.

“Aurora is causing problems, and we need to find a way to stop her,” I tell him while leaning back in my chair. “Angeline is afraid that Thorne is in a relationship with his assistant.”

Jackson pauses and then nods, “I also believe she is Thorne’s mistress. It’s why I trapped her on that balcony. I wanted to test Thorne to see if he was protective of Aurora, and we all saw that he is.”

“Why didn’t you tell me about your plan? I could have helped,” I say, feeling irritated. He’d left me out of the loop, which he shouldn’t have done. I study Jackson for a moment and notice he doesn’t particularly look sorry for what he’s done.

“I handled it. Now, we can just figure out what to do with her since we know something is going on between them,” he says. I do admit that his plan was genius. My brother would never admit to a relationship with a human but forcing him to react was the best way to get to his true emotions.

“Any other plans? We need to find a way for Aurora to leave,” I tell him, “You were close to her once. What are the things that would force her to leave?”

“Do you want her to leave willingly or forcefully?”

Tapping my fingers on my desk, I think about it. If she’s forced out, it would need to be sneaky or my brother could make a fuss. The last thing I need is him riding my ass. I doubt Aurora will leave willingly if she’s trying to get money or something else from my brother.

“Either one is fine as long as my brother doesn’t catch onto what we’re doing,” I mutter. “If he likes her, then we need to be discreet, so he doesn’t come after us. You saw how angry Thorne was when Aurora fell. Do you want that anger directed at you?”

Jackson shakes his head and rubs at his chin, “No. I think that if she’s in enough danger in the pack, she’ll want to leave, though. Aurora needs to take care of her sister, and anything that would jeopardize her safety is something she would need to get away.”

“Do you still have your scent suppressing spray?” I ask.

Jackson nods, and an idea forms in my mind.

“Then, let’s create some danger for Aurora.”

“Don’t lose them,” I hiss, pointing at the car Beta Jace is driving. How Aurora convinced my brother to give her the princess treatment, I’m not sure, but it’s ridiculous. Even Beta Jace has been dragged into this mess.

“They’re turning!”

Jackson follows behind Beta Jace’s car, stopping down the street from one of our family’s vacation houses when Beta Jace turns into the driveway. How the hell is she in our nicest vacation house?

“It’s true,” Jackson mutters, just as shocked as I am.

I lean across the car to watch as Aurora climbs out of the car, waves at Beta Jace, and begins walking up the driveway. If she and Thorne weren’t in a relationship, she wouldn’t be here. No one but our family is allowed into the vacation houses, and most of the time, we have to ask Thorne before we visit.

Yet, he’s allowing this filthy human to stay.

“I hate her.”

Jackson glances at me, and my anger rises as Aurora makes her way across the yard. I hate that my brother is with this human and that he treats her so well. Who knows what else he’s doing for her or giving her.

“Let’s go,” I growl, shoving the door open and stepping out.

Time to make Aurora regret ever laying eyes on my brother.

Aurora’s POV

“Keys. Keys. Where are my keys,” I grumble, digging through my purse. I dodge a hole in the grass as I search for them. Did I forget them at work? I thought I put them in my purse, but maybe…

A low, feral growl from behind me sends my hair standing on end. Spinning around, I gasp when I see two wolves stalking toward me. They creep through the grass, their glowing eyes pinned on me as they bare their teeth at me.

I glance at the door before looking back at the wolves. They’re too close, and the door is too far. I don’t think I’ll make it to the door before they get to me.

“I-I’m not an intruder,” I tell the wolves. Maybe they’re some of Thorne’s pack members. “Alpha Thorne lets me stay here.”

They growl again, one moving a bit to the side while the other keeps in front of me. My heart races, and I slide my hand further into my purse. If I can just get inside or call for help.

Thorne. Thorne could save me.

But I don’t have time to think because the brown wolf lunges at me, its sharp teeth coming for me. I jump to the side, my shoulder colliding with the ground as I roll across the ground. My purse falls and everything falls out of it.

Fiery pain slices down the back of my calf. I scream and kick at the claws digging into my leg.

I grab at my purse, snatching my keys and phone up while kicking at the wolf. The other wolf jumps at me, and I roll, climbing to my feet.

Claws swipe, and teeth bite, barely missing me as I run toward the door. My phone rings and rings, going to Thorne’s voicemail.

“Help! Someone help!” I scream, hoping someone is near.

I try to dial Thorne’s number again, almost dropping my phone when the wolves pop up on both sides of me. I cry out, duck when they lunge, and feel a bit happy when they collide with each other. It gives me enough time to get to the door.

My hands shake and tears stream down my face as I try to put the key into the hole. At the same time, I gasp for air and lift my phone to my ear.

Please, please, please pick up.

A loud growl behind me pulls a scream from me.

“Thorne! They’re getting closer! Help!”

When I look back, both wolves are at the bottom of the steps, ready to pounce.
