Chapter 4 Four

Chapter 4

Ella's POV

My hands tremble as I drag my shirt over the top of my head, knowing exactly what Sam is going to see.

The turtle neck shirt hangs limply by my side as I stand in front of my mate in just my worn-out bra and the hundred love marks and bites that I got from him.

Sam drags his gaze up and down my exposed body, his eyes taking in every mark on my body.

"Where did you get those from?" He asks in a calm, even voice.

My gaze falls to the ground as I'm unable to hold his piercing gaze.

"Answer me, Ella," he grits out. "Who gave you those marks?"

"I-I can't say," I mumble with my head still downcast.

He lets out a humorless laugh. "So Jude was right. You really are sleeping around."

My head whips up in surprise. "I'm not!" I rush out. "Jude is lying." I still can't believe that Jude twisted what happened and turned it on me. And how could Sam have fallen for that trick?

"Then where did you get those marks from?" He moves back into my space and grips my arm again, tightening his grip even as I let out a whine. "Who have you been sleeping around with?!" He yells, his eyes shooting daggers at me.

"I'm not sleeping around!" I yell back, tears welling up in my eyes.

"Sam, fuck! Let go of her," Cole says as he rushes back into the room. All our yelling and screaming probably summoned him back in here.

Sam ignores him, letting go of my arm and gripping my neck instead. I choke, my eyes widening and my nose flaring as I try to take in air.

Sam's eyes are completely black, his wolf showing his presence. "Tell me who you're sleeping with," he tells me, his words low and dark.

I can't say anything. All I can do is claw at his arms as my feet dangle off the floor. My lids are fluttering close, and my body is going limp. I can still hear Cole screaming in the background for Sam to let go of me.

All of a sudden, Sam's weight is ripped off me, and I slide down the wall and tumble to the ground in a heap. I gasp, my lungs expanding as I greedily suck in air into my lungs. My trembling fingers reach for my burning neck and I trace the sore muscles. Did Sam just try to kill me?

I look over to the side to find Cole pressing Sam into the wall by his shoulders. "Snap out of it," Cole screams into Sam's ear.

Sam jerks and tries to throw Cole off him, but Cole holds strong and, surprisingly, he's able to subdue Sam. Something that I never thought would be possible.

Sam struggles for a few more seconds before finally quitting. His shoulders relax, and Cole tentatively steps away from him.

"Sam, is that you?" He asks slowly, his stances still defensive as he watches Sam turn around with his eyes reverted to their natural color.

Sam's gaze flicked to my curled-up form on the ground, and his eyes hardened. "Lock her up in here and place some guards at her door. She shouldn't be given any food until she's finally ready to confess," he spits out, not sparing me a second look before walking out of the cell.

Cole sighs, casts me a pitying look, and walks away, chasing after Sam.

Two minutes later, two guards appear at my cells with gleeing looks in their eyes as they stare down at me. My shoulders hunch up, and I press my back against the cold wall, trying to get away from them.

I curl myself on the cold floor, not having the energy needed to lift my body off the floor and walk over to my bed.

Every part of me aches so badly. Even breathing poses a threat as every inhale I take squeezes my ribs and has my breath wheezing out of me.

The guards stationed outside my cell gave me a little welcome gift, courtesy of their Alpha. They said they got permission from Sam to rough me up a bit to get the truth out of me. I didn't want to believe them, but after recalling how angry Sam looked yesterday, I was forced to accept it. If Cole hadn't rushed in and stopped him, Sam might have actually ended my life. I shouldn't be surprised about the fact that he asked his guards to beat me up.

I eventually managed to pull myself off the ground and drag my battered body to my bed. I slowly lower myself into it, whining and groaning every second.

My wolf is gone so healing up fast isn't going to be possible. I might need medical attention, especially if my assumption about having broken ribs is right.

A weird sound comes from the entrance of the cell. I turn my face in that direction, attempting to make out what could have made the sound, but outside the cell is completely dark, and lifting up my arm to turn on the lamp by my side seems worse than death.

The sound comes again then a voice follows. "Ella," a soft voice calls out. A voice that I'm not familiar with. "The guards stepped out for a while. I'm leaving some buns here for you." The sound of something sliding against the ground is heard.

"Who are you?" I croak out in my hoarse voice.

"It doesn't matter," she answers. "I'm going to get you out of here soon. Just wait for me," she promises vehemently.

"Who are you?" I ask again.

This time, no response comes. I hear the sound of her footsteps scurrying away and I wonder if there's any truth to her words. Is she going to help me get out of here?

My skeptici

sm doesn't let me believe in her, but a sliver of hope blooms within me.
