Chapter 2 Two
Chapter 2
Sam's POV
I groan and clutch my head that's throbbing and aching so bad. It feels like someone took a hammer to it several times and didn't stop until I passed out.
My eyes flutter open, and I blink away my distorted vision to find myself on my bed in my room with absolutely no recollection of how I got here.
My brows furrow in confusion and I straighten up. I take a quick glance around the room, searching for anything that will clue me in on what the fuck is going on here.
The sound of the door opening pulls my focus away from my observation of the room and towards the door. Cole, my Beta and my most trusted friend, steps into the room, and a wide grin appears on his face when he sees me.
He lets out a low sigh of relief that I might have missed if we weren't all blessed with heightened senses.
"You're awake," he states, shuts the door, and walks closer to my bed. "For a second there, I was worried that whatever you injected did a lot more damage than we thought. You were out for a long time."
My brows shoot up into my hairline. "I was injected with something?" And was out for a long time? How the hell did all that happen?
Cole nods. "I and Dave found you passed out in the woods and unresponsive." He shakes his head in amusement. "We had to drag you back to the pack house, but thankfully, no one else seems to know about what happened. We were able to keep it hidden."
My heart swells in appreciation at my Beta and Gemma. Your pack members finding out that their Alpha was foolish enough to get drugged is not something that I want flying around my Pack.
"Any idea of what could have caused this?" I ask, rubbing my forehead, trying and failing to recall anything from last night. My memory ends at the dinner that I had with the rest of my pack members.
"The pack doctor thinks that it might be a mild dosage of wolfbane." His eyes narrow. "Whoever did this knows what they were doing. They wanted you inhibited but not harmed."
My frown deepens.
"Did something happen while you were in the woods?" He asks lowly.
At the mention of the woods, a sharp pain slams into my head, and I groan, gritting my teeth against the pain and clutching my head with both hands.
In the background, I can hear Cole asking a million questions about what's going on, and he's also threatening to call the pack doctor if I don't give him some answers, but all that I can focus on is the teeth-clenching pain tearing through me at the moment.
My breath hitches as an image of me and a mysterious woman flashes into my head. More flashes come in and all of them include this mysterious woman and I both lost in a sexual haze.
I blink, restoring my blurry vision back to normal. My gaze whips up to Cole's who still looking at me with wide eyes.
"Was someone in the woods with me when you found me?" I question.
Cole pauses for a second then shakes his head. "You were alone and passed out on the ground."
There had to have been someone else with me. I just know that there was. I can still feel their touches. I can still feel the wholeness and feeling of rightness that I felt at that moment.
"Do you remember someone being there?" Cole asks with an arched brow.
I open my mouth to blurt out that I could, but I think better of it at the last second. It's not that I don't trust Cole enough to let him in on this. It's more of me just wanting to keep this to myself. This experience doesn't feel like something that I should go around broadcasting. At least, not when it still feels like a hoax. I should find out more before confiding in anyone.
I shake my head. "It's nothing. Just a feeling that I can shake off."
Cole nods in understanding and he drags a chair over to my bedside, making himself feel right at home.
I narrow my eyes at him. Will it be rude for me to kick his ass out of my room? After thinking it over for a few seconds, I decided that it would be viewed as rude if I kicked out the person that helped drag my ass out of the woods. I'll entertain his company for a few minutes and then I'll nicely ask him to get out.
Cole leans back on the chair and props his feet on my bed, right on top of mine.
I grit my teeth and force myself not to react.
He crosses his arms at the back of his head and rests his fat head on them. "I don't know if this is the right time to bring this up but I had an interesting conversation with Jude today." His brows pinch together and an uncomfortable look appears on his face.
At the mention of the bar owner, my thoughts instantly drift over to someone who shouldn't still have the power to command my thoughts at the mere mention of someone who's associated with her. I mentally shake myself and push away all thoughts of my dreadful mate.
"What did he talk to you about?" I ask. It had to have been something important if Cole is bringing it up when I'm still bedridden.
He shifts on his chair and throws me a quick glance before looking away. "He..." He trails off.
My annoyance perks up. "He what?" I ask dryly.
Cole lets out a deep sigh and drags his hands down his face. "He said Ella was coming onto him. He mentioned something about her trying to get favors and maybe a salary by sleeping with him."
Everything quiets. Cole's mouth keeps moving but I can't hear a word of what he's saying. I'm still
trying to wrap my head around the two sentences that he just uttered.
