Chapter 138

Logan

Emily sleeps soundly beside me in bed. After our dinner and conversation about the witch that Daniel has recommended to us, she claimed that she was tired once again and needed more sleep. I obviously have no idea what it is like to be pregnant or to carry a baby, so I fully believed her and helped her to bed. She knocked out in less than an hour, drifting to sleep as I went into depths about the contract that was broken between my pack and the Belova’s.

She looks so beautiful beside me. Even in sleep, she has utterly captivated, my body and soul, making me fall, even more in love with her without her doing a thing. In the back of my mind, though, it feels as if she is still holding something back for me, but I know not to press it during these delicate times in our lives.

I slowly slipped free from under the covers, the pads of my feet hitting the wooden floor. I tried to move as slow as possible, not wanting to wake up Emily from beside me. She stirs in her sleep, and I immediately freeze, I staring at her before she settles back into the mattress, hugging my pillow closer to her body.

Walking out of the room, I move my phone in front of my face and quickly type in my Beta's phone number, calling him on the phone in a matter of seconds. I put the phone on speaker and settle myself into one of the seats of the dining room and stare into the deep, black sea that lies ahead.

“sir? Is everything all right?” Tony's voice comes through the phone speaker.

“yes, I just need help with setting up an appointment with Madame Wanda. I just sent her your information. Offer her whatever amount of money you deem necessary to bring her to the beach house for a private appointment. Make sure she signs a non-disclosure agreement as well,” I effortlessly give him the commands as I watched the waves crash onto the beach.

In the background of call, I hear my father's voice, as well as a few others. I raised my eyebrow and turned to look at the phone, unsure if what is being presented to me is the truth.

Is my Beta really at my father's house right now? Is he really helping him out with whatever he needs now that I am gone and out-of-the-way? How ridiculous is that!

Just I'm about to speak, the phone is quickly taken away from my Beta and through the wrestling on the other side of the car, I know that it is my father. I sharply inhale and look at the phone screen, grabbing it, and slowly making my exit outside.

“Logan,” my father's voice comes through the call, “who is this ‘Madame Wanda’ that your Beta is talking about?”

The night breeze is cold and chilly, but it feels nice against my hot skin. I shrug as if he can even see me and turn away, shaking my head. I do not even know why my father would busy himself with such a trivial matter this is, but alas, I must entertain him.

“Daniel recommended her to me. He says that she can help Emily and I with with ensuring our child is born with a wolf that is awake and not asleep,” I breathe the words out and into the phone, unsure if my father is going to help me or ridicule me for thinking that a witch could help.

The other end of the line is quiet for a moment. I listen to the distant sounds of the phone call, listening as my Beta orders people around as he begins to make the appointment information on his laptop. My father lets out a grunt sigh, walking away from the chaos of his home and into his office. I know this because his office is one safe space in the home, the one place where he can get away from the chaos of his life and the public eye.

“That is a good idea,” my father admits. It takes me by surprise, but I don't make a sound to show it. “It would be best for everyone if your child was born with a wolf. We wouldn't want them to face the same ridicule as Emily does. It is just horrible with these people say about them.”

“You were once one of those people who ridiculed my wife,” I say into the phone with a chuckle from disbelief.

“That was before I saw just how much you loved her. I thought that it was all a scam, which it was with the contract, but you two truly love each other, and I want to support it. Besides, one is known to work wonders when it comes to dispelling rumors like this.”

“Have you worked with her before?” I can't help but ask, unsure as to why my father is speaking so highly — well, as highly as he can — of Madame Wanda.

“I heard that she helped Daniel's family out in the beginning of her career. She has kept a low profile and has helped many people out, but I would still be weary of her because as much as I love hearing the positive and good stories that come out of her services, there are just as many bad stories that have floated around society about her,” my father speaks ernestly, nothing but honesty reflected in his words and tone.

“What would even happen if Madame Wanda were to mess this up for Emily and I? Would we have grounds to sue her? Or is it one of those situations where we have to keep quiet no matter what?” I ask, feeling my body run cold I thought.

If this witch, Madame Wanda, were to hurt Emily: I would get my revenge on her.

If Madame Wanda were to put Emily in any kind of danger or if she were to destroy her wolf instead of being able to restore it, I will ensure that her life is completely ruined and that she pays for what it is that she has done. I can already feel myself getting more and more angry as I think about it, feeling my anger faster in my stomach, transforming into something more.

“Everything will be okay, son, I promise,” my father's words catch me by surprise. He's never this supportive or encouraging. I have never known my father to be a vulnerable man, but I appreciate the way that he's helping me out in this moment.

“Thank you, dad. I really appreciate you talking to me about this,” I admit, hoping that he can hear my own vulnerability.

I do not like that my father and I have seemingly been against each other for the majority of my life. I am the eldest son, the one that he has placed all of his expectations onto. Unlike my brothers, there is no space for me to fuck up when my father is around.

“Of course. Don't let it get to you, yeah? Go get some sleep, you need it.”

My father ends the phone call. I slowly stand for my spot on the back patio, listening to the quiet crashes of the waves. I turned to walk back inside, placing my phone onto the side table before slipping back into bed next to Emily.

I can't help but allow my mind to wander to my father's words. The way he described that there is a bad side when it comes to the witch that will be in our vacation home within a matter of days. I stare at the back of Emily's head with the silent, hope that everything will remain OK, that this won't backfire or hurt them in the process.
