Chapter 130

Emily

Logan helps me walk down the stairs of our home, my pink dress flowing with the gentle breeze. It is a beautiful day out today, the sky is a nice baby blue and the clouds are as fluffy as ever. The sun is warm, but not too hot, and I planned on basking out in the sun all day before Logan formed me that we have previous plans.

That I was not aware of, but I am happy to oblige him with.

He helps me get into the car and closes the door behind me while I snap my seatbelt into place, looking over at him as he settles into the driver seat. We begin our journey to the secret destination, something that he has decided not to tell me, but I know by the path that we are taking we are headed towards his family's home.

Would it be bad of me to admit that I am nervous to be going there? The last few times I was at his father's house, I was humiliated and threatened, my unborn child being brought into this. My hands settle on my swollen belly to try and call my nervous heart, not wanting to overthink anything before it comes into fruition.

I look to Logan for an answer, the silent question plastered across my face. He glances at me and immediately picks up on it, turning his attention back to the road. He keeps one hand on the steering wheel while the other one is stretched out behind me, his hand settled on the headrest of my seat.

“Do you remember how I told you that my family does weekly lunches with each other?” he asks. I nod and adjusted myself in the seat, getting more comfortable than before. “Well, this is just one of those times. My stepmother was adamant that we come and I thought that it would be good to try and keep the peace between us.”

“Ah,” I nod my head, unsure if he is truly telling me the truth or not since he can barely meet my gaze.

I turned away and look at the green trees outside, getting away from the confines of the city and into the suburbs. It'll be nice to get away from the city, even if it is just for a little bit, but a small, tingling feeling begins to form in the back of my mind as I look down at my pastel pink dress.

My eyes move over to Logan, taking in his appearance. He wears a navy blue suit with a baby blue dress shirt, his hair slicked back and out of his face, like he usually has it. I raise an eyebrow him, try not to arouse any suspicion from my own suspicions, and turn away, staring at the road ahead.

He was really adamant about me wearing this pink dress today. He insisted that he wear a matching blue outfit, claiming that he loves the color combination between the two colors. I had to admit, we did look pretty good, but now that I'm sitting here in this car, I can't help but feel like there is an underlying motive to his suggestions of clothing.

“Logan,” I begin to speak, “why are we truly going to your parents home?”

“Babe, I just told you that it was a luncheon,” he chuckles, shaking his head. I never wear my eyes at him, ready to call bullshit.

“No,” I shake my head, gaining his attention, “why are we really going to your family's home? Is this some kind of… baby shower?”

Logan’s head immediately snaps to look at me. His eyes are slightly widen before they return to their relaxed state, his hands moving to the back of my neck, his thumb gently rubbing soothing circles into my skin.

“No,” he clears his throat, “it is just a luncheon. That is all I know. Besides, I think you look great in that color! I mean, you look great in anything, but you just look absolutely fantastic in pink.”

I roll my eyes at him, not wanting to give into any more of his antics. His hand drops from my neck into my thigh. He gives it a gentle and reassuring squeeze, our eyes meeting once again as he shares a sheepish grin with me.

“Come on, cheer up for me, yeah?” he asks. “You know that I would never put you in an uncomfortable situation, especially when that you don't wanna be in.”

“Then cut the bullshit with me and tell me if we are going to a baby shower that your family has planned!” I don't mean to raise my voice at him, but it comes so naturally. Thankfully, he doesn't call attention to it, and instead lets out a sigh.

“Emily, my love, if I knew anything, trust me, you would be the first to know!” Logan says as he turns the car down the gravity road of his parents’ house. “I know as much as you do. I promise you, it is going to be a very uneventful day with my family.”

“Yeah? Are you so sure about that? Every single time that we're with them, something crazy happens! I wouldn't put it past your stepmother, either, to throw a baby shower in my honor just so she can invite the pressed to show just how loving and caring she is,” I roll my eyes at the thought.

Logan snorts at the image that I have painted out for him. I roll my eyes again and reach over to flick his cheek, letting out a scoff that is mixed in with an amused chuckle. I open up my mouth to say something else, to make another comment to try and hear his laugh again, but I am quickly shut up by the image of his family's home.

The road that leads up to the house is lavishly decorated with pink and blue decorations. Big balloons line the roads and trees alongside streamers and posters that scream with baby in your windows and jokes. There is even a cut out of a stork sitting by the front door of the home as we slowly approach.

My jaw drops at the site. I can't bring myself to move until Logan gets out of the car, helping me out before passing off the keys to the valet. That's my parents hired. We stand in front of the house, at the foot of the stairs, looking up at the scene.

“So,” Logan clear his throat, “I guess it is a baby shower in your honor…”

I turned to look at him with a glare that could kill. He continues to laugh, though, and takes my hand in his, leasing our fingers together. I shake my head, unable to get rid of the irritation and annoyance that I feel begin to bubble inside of my chest.

“this is the last thing I would've wanted,” I say.

Logan begins to walk us up the stairs, his hand on my lower back while he helps me. We reached the door where an employee opens it up for us, revealing a lively scene on the inside of the home. My jaw dropped at the site, shock overtaking my body.

Logan's father, stepmother, and brothers stand inside with glasses of champagne and mocktails in their hands. To the side of them stands my stepmother, Hannah, and Chloe, as well as people from the office who do not like me.

This is a baby shower from hell.
