Chapter 127

Logan

The event went by slower than I anticipated. After Hannah and Chloe showed up and publicly threatened Emily, our child, and I in the public eye, I wasted no time in leaving after my speech and driving us home. For the rest of the night, Emily has been very quiet and has kept herself, looking outside of the car window to try and distract herself from what has happened not even two hours ago.

I quickly get out of the car and rush to her side before she can even open up the door, beating her to the punch. Our eyes meet, her gaze, both tired and exasperated, and I slowly reach inside, hooking my arms underneath her knees while her arms find their way around my neck, slowly pulling her free from the car. I turn around and kick the door shut, walking us inside of our home.

As I walk us up the stairs, my ear is filled with Emily's constant size and grumbles of dissatisfaction. I click in my pace and walk down the hall, pushing open our bedroom door before gently placing her on the bed. She moves to stand, but I signal for her to stay right there, walking to our shared closet and grabbing pairs of pajamas for us before walking back to her.

It is like second nature to take care of Emily. I honestly would not want it any other way, loving how accepting and ready she is to accept my help. I love helping her whenever I can, the acts of service that I provide for her, having become second nature ever since we officially married one another.

I do not speak, not wishing to disrupt the silence as I help her undressed, peeling away the dirty clothes, and tossing them to the side before placing her in her fuzzy pajamas that have duck patterns on them. Once I am done, changing her, I quickly change myself and walk back to our room, sitting on the bed beside her while she lays down.

“Do you want to talk about what happened?” I quietly ask, not wanting to push the subject, but I know that if its goes untouched, then Emily will become more and more restless as the days go by. It is honestly the last thing that she needs, her pregnancy moving into its final trimester, sensitive and fragile, and in desperate need of nurturing instead of being destroyed.

She ships on the bed next to me, turning her head to look at me. I offer her a kind and reassuring smile, but her face doesn't change. She simply looks away and stares at the ceiling once again.

“I will handle it,” she breathes out, clear irritation in her body, “don't worry about a thing. Focus on your Alpha King campaign instead of this. I have dealt with this before and I will deal with it again. I don't want you to worry.”

“I am worried, though,” I admit, causing her to look at me once again. I let out a shit he sigh and gently bring her hand in to mine, lacing our fingers together. “You’re pregnant, and need all of the help that you can get. My campaign can wait, honestly, and you are far more important to me than anything else, you should know that.”

“I know,” she closes her eyes and squeezes my hand, “but I want you to be able to succeed to what you set your mind out to, you know? I want you to be able to campaign and run the pack freely without having to worry about my family. Like I said, I—”

“Emily. We are a team. We our husband and wife. I made a vote to you at the altar that day and I fully intend to keep it. We obviously don't need the stress, but this is something that we are going to have to handle with sooner rather than later,” I say.

Emily doesn't immediately respond. She opens up her eyes and looks down at her baby bump, removing her hands from mine and placing them on top of the hump. Her eyes turn glossy and she turns to look at me, slight desperation written all over her face.

“I just want to bring them into a safe world,” she begins, “I don't want them to be hurt. My family can do whatever they want to me, but…if they were to do anything to them?”

“Nothing will happen to them,” my voice comes out much more firm than I intended it to, but my intent is true. “emily, I promise you that nothing will happen to our child. I will make for sure that they are safe and that your family stays as far away from them as possible.”

“Thank you,” she whispers, turning her attention back to the ceiling.

Something deep inside of me pushes me forward, pushing me towards opening up about what happened with Delilah last night. I know that Emily has thought and wondered about what could've happened to earn such a reaction for me, to wear me out like I have never been worn out before, and she deserves to know the truth.

“Last night, Delilah came into my office when I was sleeping,” I began in a shaky voice. “I wasn't even aware of what she was doing. She got on top of me, though, and started taking pictures of us as if we were being intimate with one another. I caught her and ended it as soon as it began.”

I can't even bring myself to look at Emily. Events such as these would have torn us away from each other in the past, our jealousy too much to handle when another person lays their hand on us. I close my eyes and try to study my rapidly beating heart, not wanting emily to think that what Delilah did was consent full and purposeful.

“I had her father come get her. In exchange for keeping quiet, which I can hope you can understand, he gave me the information of a witch. She is somebody who can help you, you know?”

I take another break, allowing myself the time to comb my rapidly beating heart and to collect the jumbled and incoherent words that fly around in my mind. I open up my eyes and stare at the ceiling, the white paint staring back.

“Her name is Madame Wanda,” I breathe out the witches name as if it is some kind of taboo, something that we have never encountered before. “She specializes in sleeping and dormant wolves. I think we have a good chance of helping you, Emily. We can finally ensure that our child has a wolf that's awake instead of asleep. Maybe we can—”

I turned to look at Emily just to see that she is sound asleep beside me. I let out a half of air, amused at the site. Of course, she would fall asleep at a time like this. It is so cute and adorable of her that I can barely contain the smile that spreads across my face.

I wrap my arm around her body and pull her close to me, kissing the top of her head before settling into the spot beside her.

“I promise that I am going to fix everything that has happened. I am going to make the world a better place for us,” I whisper into her ear, allowing myself to slip in to sleep after her, hoping that I can somehow find my way into her dreams.
