Chapter 118

Emily

I have moved through the motions of the day without much regard to the world around me. When I showed up to work this morning, there was a stack of paperwork ready for me to dive into, a plethora of spreadsheets and budgets that people needed me to look at and to point out any discrepancies that may be in its data. I kept my head down and worked throughout the day, ignoring everybody who tried to distract me, including Delilah, who purposely made a show of stepping inside of Logan's office just a moments ago.

I had to get up and excuse myself from the office, taking a quiet break at the nearby café, just across the street from the office. I ordered myself a cup of tea and calmed my nerves, my stomach twisting and turning from the deliberate display of being alone with my husband.

It pisses me off to know that a woman like Delilah, somebody who clearly thinks that she is better than everybody else around her, think that she can persuade or seduce a married man to walk her way. I know that Logan has no intention of leaving me, he has made it fairly clear that his heart belongs to me and me alone, but I still can't help but feel that tinge of jealousy of knowing that she has his attention instead of me

When I return to the office, I listen to their laughter as I passed the conference room they sit in. I have to contain an eye roll as Delilah tells Logan that he is so funny, that he has always been such a comedian despite his serious demeanor. Does she really think that a compliment like that will work on my husband?

Been what, years since they have seen each other? He is not the same person he used to be. It is ignorant to think so.

I quietly returned back to my work and finish the last of the spreadsheets, standing from my desk before entering inside logan's office. I look around, trying to find any semblance of a hint that's Logan does not belong to me. When I first arrived, his office was so cold and dark, but with my influence, it is now light and happy, welcoming sight.

There are no traces of Delilah or any other woman in his office. I can pride myself on that.

I place the stack of spreadsheets and the budget for this upcoming year onto his desk. I straighten it out just the way he likes it, making sure that all the pages he needs to sign are tagged with green tabs. My eyes float to the decorations on his desk, noticing that he has added pictures of us from our wedding and other dates on his desk.

My heart swells at the site. It just reaffirms that Logan and I are meant for each other, that we love one another, and do not have to worry about other men and women coming into our lives to destroy what we have built.

I turn around and notice Logan standing in the doorway. I raise an eyebrow and watch as he slams the door shut, locking it behind him. My body runs cold, nausea, overtaking my body, but I push away the feeling as soon as it comes, knowing that whatever it is that he has to say it is serious and he's my full attention.

“Logan? Is everything okay?” I asked, stepping around his desk and slowly approaching him. He looks like he just received the worst news possible, ready to explode at a moments notice. I am simply here to stop him from exploding.

He says nothing. He watches me as I slowly approach him and make myself at home in front of him. I took my head to the side, unsure as to why he is so silent. When I opened my mouth to speak again, that is when he interrupts me and asks a question that I never thought I would hear him say.

“Are you pregnant?”

My body runs cold, immediately icy as my heart stops feeding for a moment. I try to catch my breath but it feels like I have just been in a car accident and need a moment to rest. I open my mouth to speak, but no words come out, unable to come up with an excuse or response to try and subdue the feeling of dread that overtake my body.

“Logan, I—”

“It’s a yes, or no question, Emily. Answer it,” his voice is unusually cold, void of any warmth that he usually holds.

I swallow a lump in my throat and look away for a brief moment, unable to look at him in the eyes. He reaches out and holds my gaze back to him, his hand gripping my chin. Tears begin to well in my eyes, and I feel like I am ready to break at any moment.

This is it, isn't it? This is when Logan realizes that we need a divorce for his sake. I knew that this was going to happen, that by deliberately keeping this piece of information from him would be the end of our relationship with one another.

“Yes,” I weakly nod my head, “I am pregnant. I am about four months along.”

Logan takes a step back from me. There is a flash of betrayal across his face, another emotion that I cannot decipher flickering in his eyes. I hold back on my cries and stand strong in his office, my fists bald at my side.

“I know you don't want kids. I noticed last thing that you want in that our contract states that we are not to have any,” I forced the words out of my mouth, the thoughts that have kept me up at night while he sleeps soundly beside me. “If you want to divorce, I completely understand. It is nobody's fault but my own that I kept this from you.”

“No,” Logan begins, shaking his head. He quickly crosses the distance between us, the distance that he made himself, and takes me into his arms, pulling me into a tight hug.

I'm confused by his sudden change of heart. Unsure if this is a departure hug or if he is in some sense of denial from the news of my pregnancy. I remain silent and wrap my arms around his neck, pulling myself closer to him so that he can feel my bulging belly on his own stomach.

“We are not going to get a divorce, Emily, I promise you,” he whispers into my ear.

“We aren’t?” I ask with a gasp, pulling away from him just to look up. Logan nods in cups, my cheeks, a small smile spreading across his face. “But what about the contract? We agreed to not have any children with one another because of my sleeping wolf?”

“I don't care about that,” he admits, “all I care about is you in the family that we are about to have with one another. I do not care if their wolf is like yours or mine…they are our child and I will do anything in the world to protect them and you.”

“Do you mean it?” I asked, unsure if he is playing me or not.

“I do,” he nods, “I mean every single word.”

I smile, my nerves immediately feeling more at ease as I took his head down to mine, pressing a fierce and passionate kiss onto his lips.
