Chapter 114
Third Person
As soon as Emily and Logan exited the office, Delilah knew that something was up. Her instincts told her to follow them, to act casual as she slipped through the office and in their direction. She stopped for a few seconds to talk to Carla and the other employees of Logan's pack, making sure that she earns as many brownie points with them as possible before she disappears into the elevator. She presses the button to the parking garage and taps her foot against the elevator’s floor, impatience flooding throughout her body.
Sure, it has been a long time since she has seen and interacted with Logan, but she cannot help but feel as if they are drawn to one another, destined to be married to each other. Logan belongs to her, not to Emily, whose wolf is dormant, unlike her own. Emily is clearly a downgrade compared to her, a shell of a woman who cannot give Logan exactly what he needs.
And Delilah can give him exactly what he needs.
She quickly crosses the parking garage, finding her way to where Emily and Logan stand with one another. She keeps her distance, their voices carrying across the empty parking garage. Delilah hangs onto every word of their conversation, listening in on how Logan quickly dismantle Emily's façade of everything being okay.
She knew that no matter what, Logan always finds out the truth. It is one of the things about him that she loves so much, a characteristic that she has missed so dearly throughout the years. Delilah inches closer towards the couple, making sure that she makes no sound so she does not alert them of her presence.
Delilah thinks back to her life a month ago. She was working in a corporate office, one that handles medicine for the werewolf packs of the country, and was freshly divorced from her husband, living in a loveless marriage for the past year for life. It was a slow day at work when she saw Logan's face in the news,
It was of his wedding pictures with Emily, a reminder of what she had lost when he broke up with her, when she made a foolish mistake that ruined everything in her life. Logan is the man that got away, the love of her life that she let slip through her finger so carelessly recklessly.
Delilah knew in that moment that she had to get him back. She had to become his wife, no matter what. It did not matter that she was divorced already, having been through the highs and lows of a marriage with a man who did not pay attention to her. Her being divorced will not hurt Logan, seeing how the media will see them both as divorced people and not just her.
The woman quickly crosses the distance when Logan moves Emily around the car, his voice carrying over the garage while he speaks. She closes her eyes to focus on the words, not wanting to mix up anything in passing. Not wanting things to be up to interpretation when the cold, hard facts are sitting right in front of her.
“As your husband, this is me wanting to take care of you. I made a vow to you on our wedding day that I will take care of you through all of the hardships that you were going through. In sickness and in health, remember? It doesn’t matter if we signed a contract with one another,” Logan’s words shock Delilah.
The part that shocks are the most, though, is the fact that logan and emily's marriage to one another is one that came out of a contract. It is not one out of love, nor is it something that anyone could've ever expected. They have portrayed such a loving relationship to the news and media, so Delilah finding out that it was all fake shocks, her body to life.
She wants to step out and confront the pair, to reveal their schemes to the world so she could have a chance at marrying Logan, to appeal to their old relationship with one another, so he does not continue with this mistake. He is so clearly making. She stops, though. Hesitating to reveal herself.
She knows that she has to be smart about this, to take it one step at a time instead of revealing all her cards at once. Delilah can use this information as blackmail against them in order to get what she wants. If she can't get logan, perhaps she can get his brother instead. Another family member to uplift her into the prominence of werewolf society.
The woman watches as his car drives away, exiting the parking garage at a slow speed. She steps out into the parking garage aisle and watches it leave, crossing her arms over her chest.
From the first moment she met emily, she knew that something was wrong with her. She knew that the woman Logan calls his wife was a snake that slithered her way into his life. Emily does not belong at logan's side like Delilah does, that much she knows.
Delilah pulls out her cell phone and swiped through her contacts. She humps to herself as she turns to the exit of the parking garage, ready to leave and form a plan to take down Emilie and Logan's marriage so that she can take her spot instead.
If Emily's wolf is dormant, then that means that there must be something wrong with her. Something deeper that nobody else knows about. She needs to dig up the dirt before anyone else, to use it against Emily and threaten her to divorce Logan before it is too late.
She listens to the dial tone of the phone call, patiently waiting for her old friend from college to pick up. It is after a few moments of waiting when he does pick up, his voice, warm and welcoming on the other end of the call.
“Delilah,” he greets her, “it's been a long time since you have spoken to one another.”
“Has it? It felt like just yesterday when we were in class together,” Delilah sweetly talks into the microphone. She looks around the parking garage, hoping that nobody else is snooping in on her antics just as she was mere seconds ago. “I was wondering if you were still running that private investigator business.”
“I am, yes,” the man respond, his tone, cool, and collected, “do you need me to do a job for you?”
“Yes, I do actually. I need you to get as much dirt on a woman named Emily Bennett. She is married to Logan, I hope you remember him, and she just seems really shady. If you can get me as much information on her as possible, then I will owe you a big favor,” Delilah says into the phone.
“How quickly would you need the information?” Delilah listens to the man as he speaks, hearing the faint sound of wrestling in the background. She checked out her nails and shrugs.
“Maybe like a week or two? I am on a very short timeframe, I hope you can understand,” she smiles into the phone as if he can see.
“I understand. Give me a week and I will get you the information you need to tear her apart..”
