Chapter 5

I hurried forward and said, "Miss, I'm Mr. Ethan's assistant. You can talk to me about anything."

Her bodyguards immediately stepped in front of her to block me.

The woman leaned out to look me over, saying coldly, "You think sleeping with Brian gives you the right to stop me?"

Brian had a bad reputation, and I was being dragged down with him.

I wanted to explain, but Brian's cold voice came from behind me, "Mia Ethan, she's just my assistant. Show some respect."

Mia glared at me fiercely and said, "Brian, you've offended Jason. Now you need to leave the company immediately and let me take over as general manager."

I frowned, looking at Brian in confusion.

He had only met Jason for the first time yesterday. How could he have offended him?

Could something else have happened between them after I left?

Brian's expression remained unchanged as he said to Mia in a deep voice, "Let's talk in my office."

He grabbed Mia's arm, but before he could say anything, she shook him off.

Mia pointed angrily at Brian, her long manicured nails almost touching his face. "Brian, as an illegitimate child, you never had the right to manage this company in the first place. I've tolerated you for so long already. That's respect enough. Now I'm giving you two choices: pack your things and leave the company, or I'll have someone pack them for you!"

Brian said nothing.

Seeing this, Mia waved her hand, and the bodyguards behind her immediately moved forward to take action.

Just then, Mia's phone rang.

She stopped the bodyguards and answered the call.

I don't know what was said on the other end, but Mia was so angry she stamped her feet. "But..."

Before she could finish, the call was hung up. She looked at Brian furiously.

Brian smiled and said, "Are you still going in?"

Mia said through gritted teeth, "You just wait!"

With that, she turned and left.

After she was gone, I asked in confusion, "Mr. Ethan, what's going on?"

Brian smiled, staring in the direction Mia had left. After a few seconds' pause, he responded, "Prepare the contract. You're coming with me to Glacier Corp headquarters."

Going to Glacier Corp again?

After yesterday, I thought Jason and I would never cross paths again. I didn't expect to be seeing him again so soon.

I wanted to refuse, but Brian didn't give me the chance. He turned and walked back to his office.

An hour later, I appeared at the Glacier Corp headquarters building with Brian and the contract.

The silver building reflected a low-key, understated glow in the sunlight. Its smooth lines were full of technological sophistication, very much in line with Jason's taste.

Staff members relayed our arrival to the executive office on the top floor.

Before long, a man in a black trench coat, surrounded by several staff members, walked out of the elevator and headed straight toward us. He said, "Mr. Ethan, Mr. Cooper is in a meeting. Please wait in the reception room."

Then he turned to me and smiled politely.

He was Assistant Samuel, who had helped me out at last night's reception.

So he was Jason's assistant.

Had Jason instructed him to do that last night?

No, that couldn't be.

Last night's reception was hosted by Glacier Corp. As Jason's assistant, he would naturally maintain order at the event and wouldn't allow Martin to cause trouble.

As for Jason, he couldn't even hate me enough. Why would he help me out?

Brian and I were taken to the reception room on the top floor, where we waited for half an hour.

Just as Brian was about to lose patience, Jason finally arrived.

He wore a black suit with thin-soled leather shoes. His figure was straight, his legs long, his face sharply defined, and beneath his narrow phoenix eyes were faint dark circles.

He probably hadn't rested well yesterday.

"Mr. Cooper." Brian smiled and stepped forward. "Thank you so much for taking time out of your busy schedule to see me."

He extended his hand, but Jason didn't even look at it. He brushed past Brian and walked straight to the main seat on the sofa, lifting his eyelids as his cold gaze landed directly on me.

Brian withdrew his hand with an apologetic smile, then turned to instruct me, "Sue, show Mr. Cooper the contract."

I took the contract from my bag, placed it on the table, and pushed it toward Jason with my fingertips.

Before I could speak, he leaned back into the sofa and looked at me darkly. "Is this how Mr. Ethan's assistant does things?"

I froze, instinctively looking at Brian.

He looked equally confused.

Jason lowered his gaze, gesturing toward the table with his chin. "Doesn't Ms. Wilson know that contracts should be printed in a specific format and font, not with inconsistent formatting?"

I looked down.

The cover of the contract indeed wasn't printed according to the standard contract format.

Since the cooperation between DT Corp and Glacier Corp was still under discussion, this was just a draft contract focused on content, without attention to format.

Jason was deliberately finding fault.

But he represented the client, so I couldn't argue with him. I could only apologize. "I'm sorry, Mr. Cooper. This was my oversight. Please review the content first, and I'll adjust the formatting in the formal contract."

Jason smiled. "You can't even handle such a small thing. What makes you think I'll give you the chance to submit a formal contract?"

He stood up, straightened his suit, and glanced at me with cold contempt. "Come back when you've fixed it."

With that, Jason left without looking back.

After waiting so long only to get this result, Brian's face turned white with anger.

As soon as we left Glacier Corp, he coldly instructed me, "Go back and fix the contract. This afternoon, deliver it to Mr. Cooper yourself. If he refuses to accept it, you don't need to work anymore. Pack your things and resign."

Brian got in his car and left first.

Although I knew Jason was deliberately making things difficult, I had no choice but to comply to keep this job. I could only find an internet café and revise the entire contract from start to finish.

As soon as Glacier Corp's afternoon shift started, I arrived at the reception room with the newly printed contract.

Assistant Samuel was there too.

I handed him the contract. "Assistant Samuel, please give this contract to Mr. Cooper."

But he put his hands behind his back and stepped away. "Ms. Wilson, the CEO values the cooperation with DT Corp very much and specifically instructed you to wait for him in his office. You should hand him the contract yourself."

Value the cooperation with DT Corp?

DT Corp wasn't first-rate in either scale or financial strength among similar companies.

With Glacier Corp's capabilities, what kind of partner couldn't they find? Why would they value DT Corp?

But regardless, as long as I could get the contract into Jason's hands, I'd have completed my task and could keep my job.

Without thinking too much, I followed Assistant Samuel to Jason's office to wait.

Time passed minute by minute, but Jason still hadn't arrived.

I waited until I was dizzy and drowsy. Unable to help myself, I leaned back on the sofa, half-asleep, when the door finally opened.
