Sa ICU ward ng ospital.
Isang payat na lalaking nasa gitnang edad ang tahimik na nakahiga sa kama, ang monitor sa kanyang tabi ay mahinang tumutunog, isang paalala na ang kanyang buhay ay nakabitin pa rin sa balanse.
"Diyos, kung naririnig mo talaga ang aking panalangin, sana buhayin mo ulit ang aking ama. Siya na lang ang pag-asa ko ngayon," bulong ni Olivia, ang maputlang mukha niya'y nakadikit sa salamin habang nakatitig sa kanyang ama, si Ryder Smith.
Bigla niyang narinig ang pamilyar na tunog ng mga yapak na papalapit. Paglingon niya, nakita niya si William Brown na papalapit, may hawak na test report at may malalim na pag-aalala sa mukha.
May masamang kutob si Olivia. Agad siyang lumapit kay William at nagtanong nang may pag-aalala, "Ano'ng nangyari? Lumala ba ang kondisyon ng tatay ko?"
Umiling si William, seryoso ang ekspresyon habang nakatingin sa kanya. "Olivia, stable ang kondisyon ng tatay mo sa ngayon. Pero kailangan mo ring alalahanin ang kalusugan mo."
Kinuha ni Olivia ang test report mula sa kanya at sumilip dito. Bigla na lang nagdilim ang lahat, at naramdaman niyang parang mawawalan siya ng malay. Buti na lang at nandoon si William para saluhin siya.
Ipinakita ng report ang mapait na katotohanan: may kanser sa tiyan si Olivia, at nagsisimula nang kumalat ang mga selula ng kanser.
"Ayos lang ako," pilit niyang sabi, pinigilan si William nang abutin siya nito para tulungan. Hinawakan ang gilid ng upuan, dahan-dahan siyang bumangon mula sa sahig, nag-uumapaw ang pagkadismaya habang nilalabanan ang kawalang-katarungan ng lahat ng ito.
Pinagmasdan ni William ang maputlang mukha ni Olivia, mabigat ang puso sa pag-aalala. "Kailangan mo talagang ma-admit sa ospital agad. Gagawin ko ang lahat para matulungan ka, at sa totoo lang, maganda pa rin ang tsansa mong mabuhay."

Pero laking gulat niya nang umiling si Olivia, mariing tinatanggihan ang kanyang plano sa paggamot. "Salamat sa pag-aalala, William, pero wala akong balak magpagamot."
Tumayo siya mula sa upuan, at naghanda nang umalis.
"Kung hindi mo iniisip ang sarili mo, isipin mo na lang ang tatay mo. Gusto mo ba talagang ako ang magbalita ng masamang balita sa kanya pag nagising siya?" May bahid ng paninisi ang boses ni William, umaasang mapapaisip si Olivia sa paggamot.
Hindi inasahan ni Olivia ang sinabi ni William. Tumingin siya kay William na may pakiusap sa mga mata.
"Pakisuyo, huwag mong sasabihin sa pamilya ko ang tungkol sa kalagayan ko. Alam mo ang sitwasyon ng tatay ko. Ayokong mag-alala pa sila tungkol sa akin."
Tahimik si William sandali sa harap ng pakiusap ni Olivia at napilitang tumango.
"Alam kong mahirap ito sa'yo ngayon, pero gusto kong bigyan ka ng oras para pag-isipan ito. Samantala, aayusin ko na ang plano sa paggamot para sa'yo."
Seryoso at taos-puso ang tono ni William.
Si William at Olivia ay nagtapos sa parehong unibersidad, pareho silang nag-aral ng medisina. Si William ay nakatatanda ni Olivia, at pareho silang nagtrabaho sa ilalim ng parehong propesor, kaya may pagkakakilala sila sa isa't isa.
Alam ni Olivia na tunay na nag-aalala si William para sa kanya at maaari itong maging matigas ang ulo sa ilang aspeto, kaya hindi niya tinanggihan ang kabutihan nito.
"Salamat, William. Uuwi na ako."
Nagpasalamat si Olivia kay William at saka lumabas ng ospital.

Si Olivia ang pinakamaliwanag na presensya sa kolehiyo, mas magaling pa sa medisina kaysa sa kanya, isang henyo.
Pero sa hindi malamang dahilan, kinailangan niyang umalis ng maaga sa paaralan.
Paglabas ng ospital, tumingin si Olivia sa paligid ng kalsada na may litong ekspresyon, hindi alam kung saan pupunta. Kinuha niya ang kanyang telepono, nag-atubili ng sandali, at sa wakas ay tinawagan ang numero ng kanyang asawa.
Si Daniel Wilson ay nasa ospital kasama si Ava Davis para sa check-up ng kanilang mga anak.
"Ginoong Wilson, napaka-healthy ng inyong anak."
Iniabot ng doktor ang diagnosis sheet kay Daniel. Tiningnan ni Daniel ang papel at ngumiti. Tahimik si Olivia ng matagal bago siya nagsalita, "Wala akong pakialam sa ginagawa mo. Hindi ba gusto mo ng diborsyo? Pinirmahan ko na ang mga papeles ng diborsyo."
Nabigla si Daniel. Patuloy niyang pinipilit si Olivia na makipagdiborsyo para mapakasalan niya si Ava, pero palaging tumatanggi si Olivia. Ngayon na bigla siyang pumayag, medyo nagulat si Daniel. Higit sa lahat, hindi niya naramdaman ang saya na inaasahan niya.
Hawak ang telepono, nanginginig din ang puso ni Olivia habang naaalala ang mga hindi makakalimutang alaala.
Ilang taon na ang nakalipas, nagkaroon ng aksidente sina Olivia at Ava. Sa kasamaang-palad, parehong buntis ang mga babae noong panahong iyon. Ang tunay na nagpalungkot kay Olivia ay ang katotohanang hindi siya pinili ng kanyang asawang si Daniel na iligtas, kundi si Ava ang inuna.

"Nasa bahay ako. Kung hindi ka naniniwala, pwede kang pumunta at tingnan mo mismo." Ang tono ni Olivia ay parang tamad, na nagpagalit kay Daniel dahil naramdaman niyang hindi siya nirerespeto.
"Sige, hintayin mo ako sa bahay. Pupunta na ako diyan."
Nakapikit ang mga mata ni Daniel at galit na binaba ang telepono. Pagkatapos magsabi ng ilang salita kay Ava, mabilis siyang umalis ng ospital.
'Mukhang kailangan ko na rin umuwi, o magwawala si Daniel kapag nalaman niyang wala ako sa bahay,' isip ni Olivia habang bahagyang naka-pout. Pagkatapos, sumakay siya ng taxi pauwi.
