Chapter 28
The sun beams down as I pull on the new A Class uniform jacket, the purple of the Lupine crest shimmers, truly giving the regal look to my new uniform.
I can't believe I'm actually wearing this, I'm actually going to be in A Class.
A low hum of excitement pulses through me before something occurs to me.
I'd been so focused on training and everything else that I overlooked one major downside to joining.
Well besides dealing with Draven and Adrian and any other pompous rich kids.
The worst being, I'd be in the same class as Rebecca.
Walking into A Class was kind of surreal. I hadn't been there since I'd had that confrontation with Rebecca when I went looking for Draven.
The place was impeccable, just like the rest of Lupine. Which isn't surprising considering the tuition costs.
All my new classmates were already seated, their leisurely devil-may care attitudes seemed to be something every wealthy kind had.
I quickly walk to the empty row of seats at the back of the lecture hall. Though the room was big, with how spread out the handful of students were it didn't seem empty.
Taking my seat, the students started their lesson. No forced introduction and weird get to know the new student, which I was actually grateful for.
Draven and Adrian, thankfully didn't seem to have every class with me as far as I could tell.
Being they weren't here made my first class easier to handle. As the teacher continued to talk about world history and how shifters had to keep secret throughout history.
I was reminded of the studying I had done whenever I had a free moment during my transition period.
I’ve always hated being unprepared and so even when I returned home after training, bruised and hurting, I settled in and poured over all the books that Lucius gave me.
As I read I could see that beings granted abilities by their creators quickly became envied by those who did not.
As the world grew and developed and the beings' children grew, they acted like how all unruly children act.
So, what once was a peaceful place, soon turned to chaos. Friends turned on earth, race discrimination and horrible means began to be utilized to overpower those with abilities.
The beings were distraught by the chaos that fell before their eyes so they bestowed further gifts to help those who up till this point all had passive, peaceful abilities, be able to protect themselves.
With advanced healing, speed, and strength the races who were quickly oppressed began to fight back.
Some of the abilities proved to be quite powerful, and the once peaceful races developed abilities to fight back, some becoming too powerful they quickly fell into madness.
Now here in class, it was so easy for me to follow along. Before I knew it or even questioned if I should just keep my head down and let class pass by quietly, I found myself raising my hand.
Answering and asking question after question that the professor asked the class, the beginning tension I felt when I first walked in quickly disappeared. As class went on I could see the shift in the behavior of my fellow classmates.
Some seemed impressed that I already knew.
Us, wow, such a weird thing to now include myself apart from the human race that I thought was the only race until recently.
But regardless, I knew that my world had shifted that night in the woods, so I needed to do everything I can to adapt so I can achieve the future I want.
Before I knew it class had ended and even a few students gave me small smiles as they walked past me.
“One step at a time,” I said to myself, giving them a small smile back, “I’ve got this.”
Heading out, I hurried over to my first special A Class core class, Combat Training. As I walk into the training facility I find myself already stretching my arms, a habit I quickly adapted from coming here everyday the last month or so.
God, after sitting for so long, I was actually looking forward to a good workout. I make quick work of changing into my training gear, before rushing out into the training area where everyone else waits for class to begin.
I notice Draven and Adrian are standing in their own respective spots, far from each other. Adrian looks like a lazy cat bathing in the sun as he leans against a stone wall. Draven looks like a snake ready to strike, his body radiates tension and danger as he stands away from the rest of the class.
And of course Rebecca stands by him, chatting happily without a care for anything but him.
Can she be more obvious?
I quickly spot Cathy, and hurry over to her, beaming as she sees me, a huge grin on her face.
“Katie Kat,” Cathy shouts, excitedly tackles me in a hug, “Ah, I missed you babes.”
“How are you doing?” She asked, looking me over worriedly, “You okay?”
I beam at her, so happy to finally talk to her after so long. I’d been so focused that I had no time for anything else.
“I’m great now, I missed you so much.”
“I missed you too, Katie Kat,” she said, rubbing her head against mine, reminding me of a large cat.
Chuckling, we quickly fall into easy conversation about what happened over my transition period as we wait for class to begin.
From the corner of my eye I can see that most of the class has focused on Cathy and I. The moment Cathy shouted my name , I felt eyes on me.
Thinking they were just curious looks that would shift away after a moment. Instead they kept sizing me up. Which I get, being only a little over a month ago I was “human”.
However, I could really do without the fierce glare from Rebecca. Even Draven and Adrian’s gaze are less harsh than hers. It’s very clear she wants to rip me apart.
I really hope I don’t get partnered with her if we spar. I really don’t want to have to deal with all that hostility right now.
Before long our instructor joins us and training begins. In a matter of moments he has us paired up for hand to hand combat. I don’t know if it was just a coincidence or if it’s deliberate but I find myself paired with the largest guy in class.
Not only is he a full head taller than me, he’s also a wall of muscle.
Looking down at me he gives me a cocky smirk, “don’t worry little one, I don’t make it a habit of hurting girls, especially weak ones, I’ll go easy on you.”
My face darkens, the annoyance at being looked down on reminds me of Draven and how he called me weak. It seems every damn guy in this school is determined to underestimate me.
When it’s our turn, I follow the damn meathead to the middle of the training grounds. The moment the instructor blows the whistle, I push off with all my might, using my new found speed to close the distance between us in a matter of seconds.
Before he can take a step, I'm in front of him, quickly dodging his swing, I raise my leg, kicking him. The impact is strong and even though he blocks most of it, he still gets pushed back a few steps.
Not giving him time to regroup, I quickly attacked again, utilizing what Lucius taught me to bring down bigger opponents.
In a matter of minutes the cocky meat head struggles to catch his breath after my full on assault leaving him no time to regroup. The whistle blows, ending the match, I look down at him.
“Next time, don’t look down on someone just because of their appearance."
I turn to see everyone looking at me with wide, shocked eyes.
“What?”
“Holy shit babes,” Cathy shouts, tackling me in a hug, “that was awesome.”
Draven’s POV
Holy crap. That's the only thing I can say. How had Katie become so strong? I mean this was Katie we were talking about. Weak, human katie. Yet, she took down one of the biggest guys in A Class like it was nothing.
I can’t believe after a month or so she's gotten this strong. She became so much more powerful than he ever thought she would. As I watch her from across the training ground I’m speechless.
Landon is quick to express his awe at how radiant and powerful their mate is.
“I told you,” Landon snaps at me.
