Chapter 13

Katie’s POV

It was like time stopped and the world was a blur to me.

So, I didn’t imagine it?

They both were really there in front of me.

I didn’t see how Draven and Adrian got to me so fast, standing in front of me and blocking the ball.

“Such a fragile person is completely useless,” Rebecca rolls her eyes and mutters to herself, annoyed that I didn't get hit.

“You’ve definitely gone too far now,” Draven said, his voice like ice as he scolded Rebecca, “what you do affects everyone in A Class.’

Draven steps closer to her, crossing his arms in disdain.

“You just got in trouble for doing this kind of stuff yesterday,” Draven continues, angry, “Was one punishment not enough for you?”

Rebecca didn’t say anything, she couldn’t, not under Draven’s cold glare. All she could do was retreat awkwardly as the rest of A Class stared at her.

Draven walked over to me, he looked like he was about to bend down to check on me.

A part of me really begged for him to, to see him actually care about me again.

He seemed to really be putting on the sibling show in front of everyone this time.

Even though no one knew now, it would come out eventually, was that why he was being like this?

All my thoughts came to an abrupt halt the moment our eyes met.

He hesitated, and I so desperately wished he would show me something genuine.

But the greater part of me could only keep thinking that this was still all fake.

His hesitation was only for a moment, but it was enough for Adrian to push him aside, and wrap his arms around me.

Damn it. Everytime.

Every single time it seems that Draven is going to soften toward me, Adrian has to push his way in.

I was so infuriated and it always put me in the cross hairs of either Draven, Rebecca or under the many eyes of the rest of the student body at Lupine.

Everyone’s eyes fell on me and I could feel it piercing my skin and sounds of surprise running through the crowd.

But all I noticed at that moment was Rebecca, standing just behind Draven, was staring at me in jealousy.

My eyes fell on Draven again, chancing a look at his eyes, only to once again be met with cold indifference.

My heart once again has another nick in it.

I wonder how long it’ll take till all that is left is scar tissue, created from his repeated cruelty and indifference.

Draven ignored everything, walking over to the referee, talking quietly.

Once they were done the referee gave the call, cancelling the match due to the accident.

“I’m fine,” I said quickly, wanting to continue, “I didn’t get injured.”

Nor did I want another reason added to Rebecca's list of why to bully me.

“The games were cancelled,” Draven said, insisting, leaving no room for argument.

Draven turns to Adrian, his eyes cold with a spark of rage just below the surface.

“Take Katie off the field so she can rest,” he ordered before turning away.

I remember that Adrian and Draven both showed such incredible speed, and now with Rebecca showing such overwhelming strength, something just didn’t add up.

What hidden agenda could A Class be definitely hiding?

Draven's POV

After the sports meet, I called all of A Class to hold an emergency meeting.

Once everyone had arrived and was sitting quietly, I began.

“It’s become apparent that some of us,” my eyes land on Rebecca, beyond annoyed to even have to have this meeting, “Rebecca in particular, has been letting her jealousy and disregard for humans endanger all of us.”

“I just got a little excited during the game,” Rebecca tries to explain, “I didn’t intentionally attack that human, Katie, or try and reveal our secret.”

“Your actions are unacceptable,” I said, looking at everyone,” this isn’t a game, there were a lot of humans there today, you could have exposed all of us in an instant.”

The others of A Class nodded in agreement.

“What happened today was extremely reckless,” a thin blond guy said, “If Draven and Adrian hadn’t gotten there in time, the impact of that kick could have snapped that girl's neck.”

“Agreed,” another member of A Class spoke up from where they sat, “with it being at such a public place, there's no way we could have kept a lid on it, especially if she died.”

“I think it’s quite clear,” Adrian said, from his place against the back wall, “today's events were unacceptable.

I was surprised to hear my brother agree so easily.

The fact that he wasn't being snarky or using any of his usual attitude was weird.

He was never serious, especially if he was having to deal with me.

Adrian was always doing what he could to piss me off or go against me.

So for him to be like this had me suspicious.

Could it really be because the person who almost ended up dead was Katie?

As that thought sunk in, that uncomfortable feeling reamerged.

I couldn't afford to let my thoughts linger on this right now. I needed to focus on the most pressing issue right now.

“Guys, listen please, Rebeeca pleaded, “It was an honest mistake, I swear.”

“Yeah right,” Adrian snorts, anger simmering under the surface, “Everyone at school knows you have it out for that human in particular.”

“It’s true,” the thin blond guy agreed, “I might believe that it was just you getting too into the game if the ball had gone at another student.”

“The fact that it was her,” another A Class student adds, “makes it quite obvious you targeted her, I mean you even got in trouble with the Headmaster because of yesterday.”

“Your actions have consequences,” I said, speaking up, folding my arms, “I believe a harsh punishment is in order.”

“Come on, you can’t punish me over something like this,” Rebecca said, trying to plead for mercy, “it would upset my father.”

Some of the other students started talking amongst themselves once she mentioned her father.

Once again, using her father to hide behind.

It was getting really tiresome to have to deal with her.

“This is the last time,” I said, my eyes boring into her, pressuring her to understand, “only for your fathers sake are you spared this time.”

“RBut keep in mind that, regardless of who your dad is,” I state, leaning forward, “if you end up exposing us to humans, he won’t be able to save you.”

“Do not make the same mistake again, or you will regret it.”

Turning back to the rest of A Class, I focused on the last thing on the agenda.

“Now, the camping activity is mandatory for all of us,” I said, making sure they all nod in understanding.

“The hunting competition that starts afterwards is as well,” I state, looking around the room, “so make sure that nothing like what happened during the sports meet happens tonight.”

“We can not let any human find out about us.”

Rebecca nodded along obediently, smirking slightly.

She looked like thinking of a way to make the hunting competition more exciting and already have the perfect prey.
