Chapter 12

We were all gathered together in front of the field listening to the host go over the rules and prizes.

That was also how I learned that the students from A Class would also be participating in today's game.

It was surprising to say the least, they typically didn’t like to mingle with the other students.

Also, with so many privileges given to them all the time over the years, there had never been a need for them to participate with the B Class students before.

Being the event’s rewards and stuff were things like getting scholarships through performing well during the competitions.

Most if not all of A Class never need such financial help so the elite class usually had separate events just for them, with rewards that fit them better.

These kinds of events were for people whose parents weren’t billionaires or famous celebrities.

Granted I’m the only poor person at this school.

But Lupine is crazy expensive and even well off families like a lot of the B Class students still apply for scholarships, and participate in events like these.

Though after so much time, watching A Class get all the prestige and privileges it was bound to cause some dissatisfaction between A Class and the rest of the student body.

So, apparently when the new headmaster, Lucius Wild, took office this year, he got rid of the onesided privileges that only A Class benefited from.

Which now required them to participate in all aspects of the school, the same as the ordinary students.

I didn’t know much of this, being I had only just started this year, and focused almost entirely on my studies.

So, finding this out definitely made me like our new headmaster.

I have to admit, I’m a little curious about this new headmaster.

I mean for him to so quickly change how Lupine did things, after it being the same elitist type crap since it was created was beyond impressive.

Maybe, I’ll be able to meet him and find out what kind of person he is.

But anyway I digress, right now I'm focusing on dealing with the new information that A Class would be participating in.

Thinking about my conversation with Draven yesterday, it registered that he might have been worried about me in his own weird way.

With this new mandatory A Class participation, Draven could have thought that because I was already injured competing would be even harder for me.

It’s widely known that A Class students have always been the best of the best in everything they did.

Which meant, today was going to be even more difficult for me to get first place.

Competing might be more difficult but I wasn’t going to back out no matter what, that's just not who I am.

First up was the men’s competition, which was a sight to see to be honest.

The two teams were fighting it out, both going for the ball, the quick back and forth as the A Class team worked almost in tandem.

They made sure to get the ball to Adrian or Draven every time, working flawlessly to snatch up the victory every inning.

Draven passed the ball to Adrian, so fast I almost missed it, giving Adrian time to spot the opening and make the goal.

Their strength was leagues better than the other classes.

Their speed and reaction times were way better than the ordinary students of B Class.

It was surprising to see them work together so well, considering how bad their relationship is.

I was a bit confused, suspicious of just how they could be so fast, how they could react so quickly.

“Are they even human,” I asked, floored by what I just saw.

“A Class undergoes various intensive sports training,” Cathy explained, "that's why they're so much stronger then the B Class students.”

I found it hard to believe that extra training could make them super human.

It almost looked like something from a television show.

Shaking my head I try to clear any unnecessary thoughts.

With my game fast approaching, I needed to try and calm the worry that creeped in.

I couldn’t afford to let myself be consumed by fear, I couldn't dwell on anything.

My only focus should be on winning and securing myself first place and the prize that goes with it.

A half hour later, it was the women’s soccer match.

I quickly headed to the locker room to change only to be physically blocked by Rebecca and one of her little followers.

“How dare you run off, crying to the headmaster,” Rebecca said, accusingly, beyond pissed, “I got benched from cheerleading because of you.”

Rebecca reared back her hand, aiming to slap me, when Cathy stepped in, grabbing her wrist.

“If you mess with Katie again,” Cathy said, getting in Rebecca’s face, tightening her grip on her wrist, “I’ll tell the headmaster myself.”

Rebecca yanked her arm free, stepping back from Cathy.

“You can’t always follow this trash around,” Rebecca snarks, “you can’t always protect her.”

Walking around Cathy, she paused, glaring at me.

“Just wait and see,” she said, leaving.

Once the game started, it became pretty clear that the other team's driving force was Rebecca, herself.

Rebecca shot me a strange predatory smile.

Dread had started to pool in the pit of my stomach, this wasn’t good.

I could tell Rebecca would want to get back at me, as I am pretty sure I was the cause of her reprimand yesterday.

I had no idea how I was going to come out of this unscathed, now that Rebecca had free reign practically to come at me.

I mean soccer may not be a full contact sport but things happen, accidents, and some not so innocent injuries occur if you get crafty.

When the referee blew his whistle, announcing the start of the game, I tried my best to focus as our two teams went for the ball.

A fierce fight broke out as both Rebecca and I went for the ball, only for Rebecca to sweep my leg, knocking me down, snatching the ball.

Kicking the ball hard with such force, I almost didn’t see that it was coming right at my head.

I didn’t expect Rebecca’s strength to be like Adrian’s and Drevan’s, it was terrifying.

I had a feeling that if that ball hit me I’d be seriously injured.

Would it be cliche to say life flashed before my eyes?

Probably.

Was it true?

To be honest, a little.

I mean, the speed at which it was coming at me was crazy and I couldn’t do anything to stop it.

I knew I had to duck but I couldn’t react quick enough, so I was frozen in place.

From the corner of my eye I swore I could see Draven and Adrian running towards me.

But they seemed to blur, so it must have just been my mind playing tricks on me.

However, just as the ball was about to reach me I heard both Draven and Adrian’s voices.

They were shouting my name and seemed to be a lot closer than they were before.

Was that even possible?
