Chapter 1
Emily's POV
"Emily, I specially made you some honey lemon water. Drink it while it's warm.
"Olivia, you're so thoughtful," my boyfriend Michael Wilson said. "Emily's so lucky to have an assistant like you."
Hearing this familiar conversation, I immediately realized I'd been reborn.
Michael took the thermos from her hand and shoved it into mine, but his eyes never left Olivia's face.
I almost laughed out loud.
In my past life, I drank that honey lemon water without a second thought and even posted a photo grid on Instagram thanking Olivia for taking care of me.
Under that post, followers praised her as the most caring assistant.
Two hours later, I stood on the concert stage with my throat burning like it had been sliced with a knife, and the performance had to be stopped.
The ER doctor said I'd drunk a strong acid beverage. My throat was seriously damaged and needed six months to recover.
When I confronted Olivia about why she put something in that water, she cried her eyes out. "Emily, I didn't know this would happen. I just wanted to make your throat feel better..."
Michael held her in his arms to comfort her, then turned and yelled at me, "She didn't do it on purpose! She was just trying to help you. Why are you giving her a hard time?"
The concert was a charity event, and the accident seriously damaged my reputation. The company immediately put me on indefinite hiatus, citing health reasons.
Michael and Olivia swore they'd help me make a comeback and coaxed me into signing a bunch of documents.
I believed them.
Three months later, Olivia debuted with my original work and became an overnight sensation.
Michael transferred all the savings from my account for investments, then disappeared.
My depression got worse and worse, until one day when I went out to get medicine, I got into a car accident.
Remembering every painful moment from my past life, I couldn't help but clench my fists and knock the thermos over.
The hot honey lemon water spilled on the floor, sending up white steam.
Olivia seemed startled, and her voice immediately took on a tearful tone. "Emily? Did I do something to upset you?"
