Chapter 3: Words of Tigers and Wolves, Crawling into Her Bed
"Emily, what kind of attitude is that?"
Finn, who had left earlier, was back. He was holding his phone and, upon hearing Emily's words, instinctively reprimanded her.
But then he remembered his purpose and quickly softened his expression.
"Emily, Bianca is really kind-hearted. If she knew everyone pressured you into giving up the spot to be John's student, she'd be heartbroken and might even fall ill. You should record an apology video, saying it's a gift to Bianca to make up for it!"
Finn finished speaking and looked at Emily expectantly.
In her previous life, Finn had been led astray by bad friends and got into drugs. Emily had stayed by his side, enduring his abuse, covered in bruises but never giving up on him. Yet here he was, saying such shameless things.
She must have been blind.
"Get out!"
She thought her heart had turned to stone, but she still felt a sharp pain inside.
Furious, she staggered up from the bed and pointed at Finn, cursing him.
Finn then noticed her face was unusually red.
In a rare moment of concern, he stepped forward, reaching out. "What's wrong with you? Why is your face so red?"
Just then, his phone rang.
Seeing the caller ID, he immediately withdrew his hand and spoke with a gentleness Emily had never felt before. "Bianca, you're awake? How are you feeling?"
"Finn, I'm fine. I just missed you..."
"Wait for me, I'll come see you right away."
Finn responded quickly.
After hanging up, he hurriedly left, completely forgetting about Emily's condition.
Before leaving, he didn't forget to remind her, "I'll give you time to think about it. This video will show you're truly sorry."
Emily couldn't care less about Finn's words.
She didn't even know how she ended up in the hospital.
Before losing consciousness, she vaguely heard the nurse's words, "Why come to the hospital with such a high fever? Where are the patient's family members? This is so irresponsible. Any later, and she could've suffered brain damage."
Finally, she fell completely into darkness.
Emily was awakened by a loud noise.
She opened her eyes to see a tall figure standing by her bed.
The window was half open.
Emily shook her head; it didn't hurt as much anymore.
She blinked again.
The person was still there.
She confirmed it wasn't a fever-induced hallucination.
The white surroundings indicated she was in a hospital room.
"Don't make a sound. I'll leave in a few minutes." The person seemed to notice she was awake, leaning closer and warning her in a low voice.
His presence was so strong.
Even though he spoke in a negotiating tone, to Emily, it sounded like a warning.
As he got closer, she smelled the scent of blood on him and saw his face clearly.
"Mr. Smith!"
In her previous life, she had once seen Daniel from afar while with James.
He had a cold demeanor and a commanding presence, almost unforgettable at first glance.
Though he was only a few years older than James, his status was much higher.
If James, who was taken in by the Smith family, was the most powerful person Emily could interact with, then Daniel was like an untouchable deity.
He was the head of the Smith family, which was not only wealthy and influential but also powerful.
James, as a distant relative of the Smith family, could already rule Emerald City. Daniel, the head, was even more formidable.
However, in her previous life, after seeing him once, she soon heard he had passed away.
At that time, she lamented, thinking it was a pity that such a talented person was gone.
Could it be because of this incident?
Suppressing her doubts, Emily thought there would be no further interaction, so there was no need to dwell on it.
"You know me!" Daniel's eyebrows were furrowed, his tone certain.
Emily sensed danger.
She swallowed hard, suppressing her fear. "My name is Johnson. I had the chance to see you from afar with James. Don't worry, I won't tell anyone you were here today."
The head of the Smith family, wounded and hiding in a hospital room, must be involved in something complicated.
She had been reborn and wanted to live well this time, to protect her life.
But she mentioned seeing him once.
So, Daniel's eyebrows furrowed slightly, as if recalling.
The Johnson family?
With James?
He remembered Bianca and James together.
He had heard she was a frail girl prone to illness, indeed.
She was hospitalized again.
"Alright!"
Daniel responded lightly.
Outside, there seemed to be the sound of several hurried footsteps.
Daniel's eyes sharpened.
The surrounding air instantly became cold and chilling.
Now that he was in this hospital room, if his enemies found him, she might be seen as an ally.
Emily's eyes quickly darted around, pulling the blanket aside. "Why not hide here? They wouldn't suspect you'd crawl into my bed."
After speaking, Emily wished she could slap herself.
What was she saying?
Would he misunderstand her as trying to seduce him and then tear her apart?
"No, that's not what I meant, I..."
As she pondered how to explain, Daniel had already lifted the blanket and hidden inside.
Seeing him accept her suggestion, Emily quickly opened the window, fanning the air to disperse the scent of blood.
Then she hurried back to bed, covering herself with the blanket.
Beside her, Daniel had a clean, woodsy scent that was surprisingly pleasant. Emily instinctively took a deep breath.
Realizing what she had done, she quickly composed herself.
Hopefully, Daniel hadn't noticed.
Just then, the hospital room door was pushed open.
Several anxious-looking men scanned the room sharply.
Emily immediately put on a confused expression, looking at the men at the door.
"Who are you?"
The men didn't find anything unusual and coldly said, "Sorry, wrong room."
They then closed the door and left.
Emily faintly heard commotion outside, as if they were searching room by room.
Daniel then got up from the bed. Emily noticed his blood-stained shirt and frowned, suggesting, "Should I call a doctor to bandage your wound under my name?"
"No need!"
Daniel refused in a deep voice.
Then, he tossed Emily a jade piece. "It can help you once!"
He then opened the window and leaped out, leaving the room.
His woodsy scent dissipated with the wind blowing through the window, as if he had never been there.
But the cool touch of the jade piece proved he had indeed been there.
"One-time help, huh?"
A promise from the head of the Smith family carried significant weight.
Emily smiled, pleasantly surprised.
Was this a stroke of luck from being reborn? Did it mean she could change her tragic fate from her previous life?
Voices came from the hallway again.
Emily's heart skipped a beat. Could those men be coming back?
But Daniel had already left, so there was no need to worry.
Thinking this, Emily got out of bed and peeked through the door.
Outside, Bianca was being carefully escorted out of the hospital by the Johnson family and James.
She smiled sweetly, as if all the world's beauty favored her.
In contrast to her empty hospital room, it was incredibly ironic!
Suddenly, James' sharp gaze shot towards Emily's room.
