Chapter 240

Third Person POV

As he sits back in his chair, the Alpha of the Whiteclaw Pack stares at the computer screen. The pretty little female curls into herself, pressing her back into the corner of the wall like she always does when she finishes her meal.

Watching her has become a soothing pastime for her captor since she’s been locked up in his cellar, and he realizes that he’ll almost be sad when he has to get rid of her. It’s been fun watching her face fill with fear when she sees him. He likes the thrill that runs through him and the sense of power when she cowers away from him.

“Alpha Thrange, there’s someone here to see you,” the Beta of the Whiteclaw Pack says from outside his office. He growls in annoyance and looks at the door. His pack members know not to bother him, so it’s not one of them visiting.

It must be something important if his Beta risks interrupting him.

“Enter.”

His Beta enters but so does an unknown man, which catches Alpha Thrange’s interest. This man wasn’t from his pack, he notices while the scout Ethan sent to warn him bows.

“And who might you be?” Alpha Thrange asks, leaning forward in interest. He didn’t often get visitors from the Kingdom.

The scout stands straight and relays his message, “I’m here with a warning from Alpha King Ethan. The Alpha of the Redwater Pack is on their way to attack you as we speak. We believe he is going to attack in order to take over your pack or to challenge you. He was gathering warriors when I headed this direction to warn you.”

The scout ran as fast as he could, getting a good distance ahead of the Redwater pack, which gave him just enough time to warn Alpha Thrange. He’s glad he made it in time, especially since the Redwater Pack Warriors weren’t far behind him.

A tingle of anticipation and surprise fills Alpha Thrange at the mention of Ethan, as well as the new information about the Redwater Pack. The Alpha didn’t think they had the nerve or the gall to attack him, yet here was this messenger, telling him exactly that.

“This does seem to be a problem,” Alpha Thrange says, tapping his fingers against his desk.

Alpha Thrange thinks about how close Ethan must be for him to be able to warn their pack about an attack like this. He’d sent the images of Ethan’s mate to Alpha Mandra in hopes that Alpha Mandra would give them to Ethan, but this was quicker than expected. It should have taken a day or two at least before Ethan got the pictures of his mate.

That should have given Alpha Thrange time to have a bit more fun before Ethan came knocking, but it would be fine. This just means that Ethan is close by, maybe even in Alpha Mandra’s pack as they speak.

“I’ll have someone look into Alpha King Ethan’s location,” the Beta mind links his Alpha, not wanting the scout to know of their plans.

“Do that. I want to know if he’s here, and if he has caught onto our plans,” Alpha Thrange mind links back. He hadn’t expected Ethan to catch on so soon. It irks and excites him, knowing that he may be able to kill the man soon. “I’ll entrust this to you only, Beta. If Ethan is near, alert me immediately because we will have to move our timeline up.”

“Of course, Alpha.” The Beta bows and retreats from the office in search of Ethan Montgomery, leaving the scout with his Alpha.

“Do you know when they will arrive?” Alpha Thrange asks, leaning back in his chair.

The scout nods, moving closer and a bit to the side to speak more directly with the Alpha. Not meaning to, he catches a glimpse of the Alpha’s computer, freezing when he sees a woman on the screen. She’s in a dark, dingy room with very little light, and she looks rough.

She seems to be crying in the dark room, and it takes a second, but the scout pauses, recognizing her.

To keep Alpha Thrange from realizing that he saw the footage of Queen Fiona, he answers the man’s question, “They’re almost here. I wasn’t far ahead of them.”

At the same time, the scout mind links with one of his teammates, “Rainer, tell Alpha King Ethan, I think I found his mate in the Whiteclaw Pack.”

“I’ll tell him. Stay safe and don’t let on that you know anything,” Rainer says, and Anders, the scout standing beside Alpha Thrange, mentally nods. As soon as he can, he’ll get out of there. He doesn’t want Alpha Thrange to know he’s onto him.

“Let’s see what we have,” Alpha Thrange says, opening up another security footage and motioning the scout closer. “Here they are.”

Alpha Thrange glares at the screen as the Redwater Pack’s Alpha leads a large group of men and wolves toward his pack. They cross into his territory confidently, and he scoffs. This weakling thought he could come into Whiteclaw Pack Land and take over?

The Alpha chuckles darkly, knowing that by the end of the night, the Redwater Alpha will deeply regret his actions. He’s practically leading his men to their deaths.

He switches to another camera view, seeing his men already gathering to defend the Whiteclaw Pack.

“You’re dismissed,” Alpha Thrange says, catching Scout Anders attention again. “Tell Alpha King Ethan that I appreciate his concern for my pack and that I am grateful for the warning. It is much appreciated that he would think of us in such busy times.”

The scout mentally laughs at the man’s pretense, but nods and bows in respect anyway. He doesn’t want to do anything thar will result in hurting the Queen.

“I’ll give him the message, Alpha Thrange. I hope you deal with these intruders swiftly and safely,” he lies while backing out of the room. If he turns his back, it leaves him open to an attack. He can’t tell if Alpha Thrange noticed his discovery or not, but better safe than sorry.

As Alpha Thrange stands and cracks his neck, he switches the camera footage back to the little Queen. She’s still curled in her corner, but this time, the sight of her tears gives him the boost of energy he needs to deal with the intruders.

Pathetic.

Simply pathetic, just like the men he is about to wipe off the face of the earth.

Alpha Thrange, ready for a fight, leaves his office, chuckling at the irony of the situation. Ethan, unknowingly, had helped his own enemy.
