Chapter 213
Unknown POV
From across the room, I watch Fiona, the loser Luna, laugh with the three healers and her friends. It’s ridiculous that anyone accepts her, and to find out that some of my pack mates welcome her with open arms is even more absurd.
She’s a human, which means she’s weak. From everything I’ve seen of her in the last week, she doesn’t have any amazing or outstanding qualities. Not like some of the females of our pack. Not like Angela who was a perfect candidate for the Alpha female, except now, she is rotting in prison because this little bitch couldn’t keep her hands off things that don’t belong to her.
And don’t forget about our esteemed Alpha, and now King. He’s completely infatuated with the little human. He’s basically putty in her hands.
Hands that ruin everything they touch.
She doesn’t belong here, and she needs to go. I can’t allow her to stay here any longer because she will ruin our plans.
Her laughter fills the common room again and disgust fills me. She’s having so much fun while wrecking everyone’s’ well-laid plans.
Turning, I slip out of the common room and make my way down the hall to the Montgomery’s apartment. I knock twice and the former Alpha Montgomery opens the door, waving me in. He closes the door behind me and leads the way to his office, closing that door and locking it before speaking.
“What happened last week? Why didn’t the plan work?” He growls, glaring at me as if it’s my fault.
“Your son showed up and saved the human,” I answer and take a seat across from him. “They’re fully mated, so he can sense when she’s in danger. We didn’t account for that, but next time, we will.”
“You’d better. I want her gone for good.”
The anger rolling off of him is palpable. It hangs over me like an axe at an execution.
“You know getting rid of her will hurt your son,” I remind him.
“He’ll get over it. She couldn’t be his true mate, and once she’s gone, Ethan will see that,” he growls, slamming a fist on the desk. “She is a liability that will make us look weak. Already, she is messing with my son’s mind. If he doesn’t come to his senses, I’ll have no choice but to relieve him of his title.”
I lift my eyes, surprised at the man’s words. “You think him that far gone?”
The former Alpha nods gravely, rubbing his chin in thought as he says, “Yes. I trained him better than this. He knows strength and power are the highest qualities in an Alpha, yet he chose a weakling as a mate.”
He laughs in contempt and shakes his head.
“She has to go before she ruins my son even further.”
“Of course. I’ll make sure it happens.
Ethan POV
“King Ethan, how would you propose dealing with the possibilities of dissention and rebellion in the Northern Packs?” Council Member Thaen asks, turning a scrutinizing eye on me. He still has a thorn in his ass from the arguments about Angela, but I make sure to reign in any disapproval and answer his question calmly.
After all, I don’t want to be known as a King who doesn’t get along with his Council.
“Scouts need to be sent to each pack that is suspected of rebellious intent to check if the rumors are true,” I tell them, “If the scout comes back or sends word of rebellion, I would like to invite the Alpha and Luna of each pack to the palace for discussions.”
“Discussions?” Council Member Hannen asks, leaning forward with interest.
I nod, crossing my arms over my chest. I’d thought about it for a few days, even asking Fiona her opinion. She said peace would be better than war, and the only way to get peace is to talk. I agreed with her. We can’t fix anything with violence.
“Peace discussions, yes. Whichever Packs are thinking of rebelling should be invited to share their concerns and reasons. That way, we can think of solutions to squash a possible revolution before it begins,” I explain.
Several of the Council Members nod and murmur in agreement, but there are still a few with apprehensive expressions. The last time multiple packs came together against the King resulted in war.
The King at the time was one of our worst Kings, as he decided to let the dissenting packs work through their problems on their own. He didn’t care about the people and only protected himself, which resulted in those packs causing chaos across the continent, hurting people, and ruining innocent lives.
That was nearly fifty years ago, before Arthur was King, and there are still some people who are affected by the trouble caused.
If I can stop that from happening again, I will.
“Rest assured, I will do everything I can to keep a war from breaking out,” I say, looking to the few members who look uneasy. “I will host them in the palace, giving them time to speak with me and each other. We will get to the core of the issue and take care of it in a way that will help everyone.”
Council Member Sanders stands, pulling everyone’s attention to him, “Alright, scouts will be pulled, but with the increase in rogue activity, where will these scouts come from? Will your pack be providing them or will we pull them from the Kingdom Center’s guards?”
“Yes, are other packs expected to provide scouts?” Another Council Member asks.
“We will pull from the Kingdom Center’s guards as well as my pack,” I answer, “As for the rogues, I have two in custody and my head Gammas are partnering with the King’s guards to patrol and keep an eye out for rogues.”
I’d thought about that also, since we captured the two rogues from my land. They claimed to have just come onto the land because they were looking for food, but I have a feeling there’s more going on.
“With the increase in rogue activity, I’ve also thought to tighten up the guard patrol in the Kingdom center while alerting the Alphas of each pack to do the same,” I announce, lifting a paper notice I already sent out.
“I saw the notice, but will it really help if they decide to attack?” Council Member Thaen asks skeptically.
His attitude is uncalled for, but the concern is sincere.
“Doesn’t make him less of an ass,” Zev grumbles, and I silence him. The last thing I need is him taking over and saying something like that out loud.
“We will not take further action until we’re certain they are gathering to attack. I plan to appoint a few trusted Lycans with the task of infiltrating the rogue population and sniffing out the main reason for the increase,” I tell them, and several men pull back. They didn’t expect that.
Most people ignore rogues, but the fact that they’ve been coming into pack land more often is concerning.
“I won’t wait until someone is in danger to act.”
