Chapter 3
When William found out that Lara Duran had signed the divorce papers, two weeks had already passed.
He stared at his computer screen, feeling his heart racing with panic.
He knew Lara well.
During their three years of marriage, Lara had never worked or had any income. Without him, Lara wouldn't be able to survive in this world. He had only meant to scare her, never actually planning to divorce. Besides, in their social circle, everyone just accepted affairs as normal.
But now two weeks had gone by, and Lara hadn't contacted him or looked for a job.
Back when he first filed for divorce, he had already contacted housing design companies across the country. If Lara sent in her resume, they had to tell him and reject her application. After all this time, not seeing any resume from Lara meant she had already given up on working, and she didn't have any close friends either.
He firmly believed Lara would come back to him soon.
Thinking this way, William returned to his usual cold attitude.
At lunchtime, Anna came to his office with a lunchbox. "William, I made this lunch myself. I bet you haven't eaten yet."
Faced with Anna's flirting, William was in a great mood and picked up his fork to take a bite. The good food comforted his fragile heart, sweeping away his earlier anxiety.
He looked at Anna, imagining Lara standing behind him with a gentle expression. He thought that when they remarried, Lara would naturally forgive him, and then their family of four would be so happy.
Anna pretended to be concerned. "I haven't seen Lara lately. How is she? I'm a bit worried about her."
Even though Anna had deleted the messages Lara sent to William, she was still worried he might see them, so she had to make sure.
William put his arm around Anna and said softly, "I know that woman. Don't worry, she'll be fine."
Getting this confirmation, Anna finally relaxed completely.
That evening, when William came home, he was drunk and passed out on the couch as soon as he got there.
To secure her position, Anna took the hangover soup from the servant and added a drug before feeding it to William.
She had been preparing this drug for a long time, and today she finally got to use it.
She helped William upstairs, thinking they would have a wonderful night. But she didn't expect that William would be calling out Lara's name! She was furious, refusing to let anyone ruin her dream of marrying into wealth.
While William was completely out of it, she took many intimate photos of them together.
This time, she would make sure Lara gave up completely.
Lara kept ignoring her, but that was fine. She could deliver the photos right to her face.
She didn't believe Lara would stay unmoved!
The next morning, William woke up to see Anna covered in bruises and said guiltily, "I'm sorry, honey. I didn't control myself last night. The company is choosing a design director soon. Why don't you take that position? Consider it my way of making it up to you."
After saying this, he ignored Anna's reaction in bed and went straight to the bathroom.
This was the first time he had been cold to Anna.
Anna touched her flat stomach and let out a cold laugh. He had already married her, yet he was still thinking about his ex-wife. Was she really that worthless?
"What a joke! Thinking he can trade one night with me for a design director position? He must be dreaming!"
Anna thought to herself that she shouldn't have driven Lara away. If Lara were still around, in a situation like today, she could have taken the chance to get rid of the baby and frame Lara for it, completely destroying their relationship.
Instead, Lara was gone but still occupied William's heart.
She had to find a way to win William back.
